"Republicans Shift Focus From Jobs to God

By John Stanton
Roll Call Staff
Nov. 1, 2011, Midnight

Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call File Photo
Rep. Randy Forbes recently introduced legislation to reaffirm “In God We Trust” as the nation’s official motto.
Republicans may be trying to focus their messaging on jobs and the economy — and hammering President Barack Obama for campaigning — but they still have time for some red meat base-baiting on the House floor.
To wit: House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s (Va.) decision to bring to the floor a measure that “reaffirms ‘In God We Trust’ as the official motto of the United States and supports and encourages the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions,” according to the resolution, sponsored by Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.).
The resolution is one of three measures being considered by the House on Tuesday and is nonbinding.
Cantor’s office declined to comment for this story."

"Republicans score another symbolic defeat for EPA — this time over toxic coal ash

By Alexandra Duszak

House Republicans on Friday succeeded in championing legislation that would wrest regulation of coal ash from the federal Environmental Protection Agency to the states, who will have the authority to regulate the often hazardous residue at power plants as if it were municipal garbage."

This would belong more in a "Conservatives credibility watch" or "Stupid racist redneck bible thumpers credibility watch". So fucking depressing that so many people disagree with a decision simply because it was made by a black man that they don't like GWB 4 years ago.

This is also why Ron Paul will never win the GOP nomination, too many of them are blood thirsty war mongers who just want to kill kill kill anyone who isn't white and christian.

Quote :
"A little more than a year after the conservative-led state board of education in Texas approved massive changes to its school textbooks to put slavery in a more positive light, a group of Tea Party activists in Tennessee has renewed its push to whitewash school textbooks. The group is seeking to remove references to slavery and mentions of the country's founders being slave owners."

Quote :
"The group demanded, as they had in January of last year, that Tennessee lawmakers change state laws governing school curricula. The group called for textbook selection criteria to include: "No portrayal of minority experience in the history which actually occurred shall obscure the experience or contributions of the Founding Fathers, or the majority of citizens, including those who reached positions of leadership.""

So is teaching revisionist history to kids acceptable to the champions of state's rights on this forum?

Dude, seriously? Public Hangings? And for abortionists? Jesus, man.

Quote :
"Pittman said he was disgusted by the actions of death row inmate Danny Robbie Hembree Jr., who recently sent a letter to The Gaston Gazette bragging about how easy life is in prison and that appeals would stall his execution for years.

"We need to make the death penalty a real deterrent again by actually carrying it out. Every appeal that can be made should have to be made at one time, not in a serial manner," Pittman wrote in the email. "If murderers (and I would include abortionists, rapists, and kidnappers, as well) are actually executed, it will at least have the deterrent effect upon them. For my money, we should go back to public hangings, which would be more of a deterrent to others, as well."

He confirmed to WRAL News on Thursday that he wrote the email but said he had intended to send it only to Rep. Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, and not to every lawmaker. He said he was tired and accidentally hit "Reply All" on an email that Moore had sent to the General Assembly about Hembree."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/27/intelligence-study-links-prejudice_n_1237796.html

Quote :
"Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario suggests the answer to both questions may be a qualified yes.

The study, published in Psychological Science, showed that people who score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more likely to develop prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative politics in adulthood.

I.Q., or intelligence quotient, is a score determined by standardized tests, but whether the tests truly reveal intelligence remains a topic of hot debate among psychologists.

Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and the study's lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a vicious cycle: People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn, prejudice, he told LiveScience.

Why might less intelligent people be drawn to conservative ideologies? Because such ideologies feature "structure and order" that make it easier to comprehend a complicated world, Dodson said. "Unfortunately, many of these features can also contribute to prejudice," he added.

Dr. Brian Nosek, a University of Virginia psychologist, echoed those sentiments.

"Reality is complicated and messy," he told The Huffington Post in an email. "Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less cognitive capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies."

But Nosek said less intelligent types might be attracted to liberal "simplifying ideologies" as well as conservative ones.

In any case, the study has taken the Internet by storm, with some outspoken liberals saying that it validates their suspicions about conservatives and conservatives arguing that the research has been misinterpreted.

What do you think? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent? Or is this just political opinion masquerading as science?"

I read this guy's study and I'm gonna be honest: Total bullshit. It's written in this bizarre language that seems like English but includes all these strange scientific words. Plus, it's huge. I say we don't allow any more studies to be undertaken unless they're written up in simple English and are less than 3 pages long. Also they should be published only in English, the language of prosperity.

Quote :
"oh joy, another study by liberals saying that liberals are smart. fucking brilliant"

Looky here another conservative who distrusts all science because liberals use it to back up their ridiculous claims about "reality".

Don't worry aaronburro, I'm sure the Creation Institute will publish a study soon enough that confirms conservatives are smarter by quoting the relevant scripture.

I love me some pandering. I'm on Senator Burrs email list or something and got a note about this statement today

http://tinyurl.com/7xe8wgf

this in particular:

Quote :
". Rather than making the tough choices necessary to get our economy back on track, the President imposes tax hikes that will hurt job creators and our economy, ignores the pending insolvency of Medicare and Social Security"

What would you have him do Burr? Cut spending in programs that are Democrat priorities to pay for programs of Republican priorities?

Just look at the hot topics that are always thrown around in todays politics:

- Health Care
- Gun Control
- Gay Marriage
- Education

You would have to be one ignorant bystander to not see that they have the upper hand on those issues by the success with which they incorporate them into their policies without a major "collapse". People have government protection and don't need guns, people don't have to be in pain because they provide health care, and people don't go mad over the fact that a civil union is recognized by the government. Yes they may tax more, but not to the point where people can't get what they deserve for hard work. The only people that have anything to loose are the elite upper class in this country that widen the divide between the rich and poor.

Health Care --> they aren't all fat as fuck, so they do decently well
Gun Control --> worked out really well in Sweden, didn't it?
Gay Marriage --> You would expect some kind of "collapse" from that? jeez
Education --> Yes, people that give a fuck about education do reasonably well at it.

the things you complained about here had nothing to do with "the gov't working" and everything to do with a failure of society here that gov't can't really fix.

Are you saying that either a system collapses or it "works"? Is that how you are defining what works?

Quote :
" People have government protection and don't need guns"

What mess is this? Evidence by the large numbers of stabbings in the UK or what?

Quote :

Well, now isn't this a great line. Socialist Europe certainly guarantees even their most productive citizens a sustainable but ultimately deterministic and altogether liberty lacking life.

I worked for 6 months in Munich and had numerous conversations with the Engineers there. They made more in salary than I did. Their parents had no assets to their name, they had no assets to their name, the concept of building "wealth" was extremely foreign to them. The government takes a huge chunk of their income and more or less limits all manners of their choices for them. Sure, they had electronic gadgets like we do, go out to eat like we do, take vacations like we do, have health care like we do. But when they die they have virtually nothing. Their children will have nothing. The state guarantees these. A perpetual and ongoing servitude from one generation to the next.

Sounds like something to strive for!

This was a great opportunity for you to learn something, but unfortunately you went to Europe and took the U.S. with you (just being honest and humble here).

What that all means is that life can be perfectly and overwhelmingly fulfilling without this silly notion that you have to hoard money and build unneeded wealth. Over there they share because there is enough to go around. As you have stated, it doesnt mean that they are poor or a commoner, they are still doing quite well for themselves. It just means that they are not allowed to hoard money unnecessarily from the general population, and they are OK with that. So what does that tell you about us then?

Also, YOU may have healthcare but WE DO NOT. THEY all have healthcare that is free and reliable. There is a big difference.

Quote :

Now just hold on a god damn minute. Who are you to tell me what is fulfilling? Just who the hell are you to decide what is unneeded? Just what kind of hippie shit are you trying to say here by using the word "hoard"?

Quote :
" Over there they share because there is enough to go around."

They don't share shit. They are forced by the state to give up their income as taxes whether they like it or not. They share so much that all of Europe is telling the Greeks they have to receive less from the rest of Europe because the funds aren't available. Thats sharing!

Quote :
"It just means that they are not allowed to hoard money unnecessarily from the general population, and they are OK with that."

Are they?

Quote :

We aren't stupid?

Quote :

It's the farthest thing from free. The reason they don't have any money "hoarded" is because they State has taken it from them to help the people that aren't so lucky health-wise. A good deal for the sick, not so much for the healthy.

I think that it is obvious what I meant by "you could have learned something". It seems that you went over there with the preconceived agenda to find out how much the government "takes away" without seeing how it gives back.

Europeans pride themselves on giving back to country in the form of health care. It is something that they often harp on Americans for being the one civilized country that does not provide for there citizens healthcare. It is a running joke to them.

I went over there as an engineer to do an engineering job and ended up befriending locals and had conversations from time to time over Afghani food and good German beer about what life is like for them and for me.
