About that whole "Community will get renewed because they need more episodes to get to syndication" theory:
Quote :
"Greendale Community College’s most famous study group will have a new member beginning in 2013 (and it’s not Beetlejuice) as COMEDY CENTRAL has reached a multi-year deal with Sony Picture Television to license the critically-acclaimed comedy series “Community,” it was announced today by David Bernath, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy & Multiplatform Programming/Dean of Students for COMEDY CENTRAL and [Sony Pictures Television]. The all-comedy channel will launch the series with three seasons beginning in the fall of 2013."

Licensing to Comedy Central is not syndication.

Syndication refers to selling to multiple local TV stations, etc., in packages of episodes that they can run at their discretion. The common thresholds are 75 and 100 episodes, because those create runs of 15 or 20 weeks of daily episodes without duplicates. When this season ends, there will be 71 episodes of Community.

Shows can be syndicated on cable or broadcast networks, or both...your definition of syndication is outdated. Calling it "licensed" rather than "syndicated" is semantics.

There's a big difference between a show getting a rerun slot on a national network and being sold to every two-bit broadcast station up and down the eastern seaboard.

There's a difference sure, but we haven't established that Community is going to make more money in syndication on local affiliates than it would on Comedy Central. For all we know Community could get pulled from local affiliates after a couple of months of bad ratings, while running for years on Comedy Central.

i hate hate hate the added effects; the apple, the thought balloons, etc. i let it slide last week because maybe they were casting a wider net for the dummies, but i hope this shit ends now. that stuff may fly for your boy karl in workaholics in other shows, but i don't like it in community. too on the nose for me

http://www.wwtdd.com/2012/04/the-chevy-chase-vs-dan-harmon-feud-is-getting-ugly/

Over the weekend, the ongoing feud between ‘Community’ creator Dan Harmon and star Chevy Chase went very public after a story on Deadline that said Chase walked off the set without shooting one of his final scenes for the season finale, followed by Harmon leading a chant of “Fuck You, Chevy” (in front of Chases wife and daughter) at the wrap party.

Later that night Chase left a voicemail for Harmon where said “fuck” a lot and called him a shitty writer, which of course Harmon played in public as soon as he could while calling Chase a drunk. And now that voicemail is finally available in it’s entirety:

“I hope you’re ready to take your medicine, you fat fuck. You didn’t give us a script to begin with, so nobody knew what the fuck was going on during the week. Second of all, your goddamn bad writing, shit stinko fuck, was an abomination; and your writing is getting worse, so suck my cock. I don’t get talked to like that by anybody, certainly not in front of my wife and daughter, you goddamn asshole; alcoholic, fat shit.
You’re gonna live to be about 57, if you’re lucky, the way you eat. I have nothing to say to you except you can suck my cock. Is that clear?
And I hope you can play that for everybody around you who agrees with you that you should say “fuck you” in front of all of those people, to me and my family. You think that’s the right way to behave?
If you were here right now I’d fucking kick you’re fucking teeth out. You’re nothing to me. You’re (unintelligible) with what I’ve worked with before. You’re not funny. You’re OK.”

Everyone knows that Chevy Chase can be a dick to work with, so it’s probably not good that the crew is apparently siding with him over Harmon. Even if Harmon led a second chant where he just yelled “WHITE POWER” for 10 minutes I would have thought he’d still be more popular than Chase.

With the amount of control that Harmon exercises, especially when it comes to micromanaging scripts and characters, I don't think it's a surprise that the people he works to the bone might side with Chase. At the same time, if the crew is against him, who the fuck was chanting with him at the wrap party?

The fact is they're both probably in the wrong.

"The people that I really want to apologize to are the fans of the show. If you want to know what’s on my mind that I consider worth the attention of five million people, that’s the place to look, Thursdays at 8 on TV. Those are the stories and the jokes and observations about life and personal confessions that I intend for that large a venue. There is also a monthly show I do in the back of a comic book store in Los Angeles in which I say things that I intend for 150 people to hear. I tell stories about what an unlovable asshole I am and the trouble it causes for me. I rant and rave about the world’s failure to meet my standards, I talk about being drunk and stupid and heartbroken and childish and crazy and self-obsessed and self loathing and how much I love myself for it. The people that show up are paying ten dollars to listen to it, if you can believe that, and they made the drive out and put that cash on the barrel because they love or hate me but are fascinated by how much I fascinate myself - or their boyfriend made them go.

It was in that venue, months ago, that I made the horrible, childish, self-obsessed, unaware, naive and unprofessional decision to play someone’s voicemail to me. He didn’t intend for 150 people to listen and giggle at it, and I didn’t intend for millions of people to read angry reports about it. I was doing what I always do, and always get in trouble for doing, and always pay a steep price for doing. I was thinking about myself and I was thinking about making people laugh. I was airing my dirty laundry for a chuckle. I ask people at those shows repeatedly to please think twice about youtubing clips of it because it doesn’t play well outside the back of a comic book store. I always accept the risk that a well-intending fan will upload clips and something scandalous will break wide, but the giant mistake I made was involving someone else in that game of russian roulette, someone that didn’t have an opportunity to say “yeah, hilarious, let’s do this.” That was a dumb, unclassy, inconsiderate move on my part. I’m very sorry it’s reflecting poorly on the show."
