To answer your earlier question, I have no idea what the Tacoma X-Runner top speed is, but it always seems to win that race due to a better top speed. I won with my Dodge RAM in A-Spec no problem b/c I just blocked the Tacomas from passing & they kept hitting the back of my car making be go faster (GT5 AI at it's best). Also, I know the driving line can be turned off, but the fact that it is available on any track or any race gives people the option to dumb down their experience.

Oh, and fuck the Go-Kart race at Autumn Ring... has anyone beaten that one?

^^ i'm stuck on the Daytona race in the supercar one. trying to find a decently fast supercar in the used car lot that I can afford and fits my limited driver level. did two of the races with my honda 2000 with spoon engine but the veyron owns me on the circle.

^ No it is not. For all of the hype it is disappointing. Stick with Forza and save your money. You won't be missing out on that much.

put a suspension and a couple mild upgrades on the buick that you won and you will smoke everyone. Also, you'll need a ferrari and lambo for one of the next races, so have your b-spec guy run some races for you and then buy one and upgrade everything and make it lighter and you will be smoking people. my 600+hp lambo with level 3 lightening and carbon fiber hood and lexan windows was a good 20 seconds ahead in that race.

^ i'll do that then.

i just did 4 of the classic car races (1 in beginner, 2 in amateur, 1 in pro) with a '69 stingray vert. supercharger + racing tires and i was killing it. definitely got a return on my investment on that one.

you will have to get the full transmission upgrade with the stingray to compete at daytona, otherwise your top speed isn't high enough and you'll get smoked. even with the transmission it may not be enough.

I was able to win that race with my Murcielago LP-670 SV. Bone stock except for the addition of hard race tires. As long as there isn't a McLaren F1 or Veyron in the line up you should be able to win.

depends on what you want in a console. for me i get all the xbox games on the pc, rather all the xbox exclusives are in a genere that i prefer on the pc. while the ps3 exclusives are games i prefer to play on consoles.

what kinda games do you like?

the further you get into this game, the better it gets. The menu's are dumb, but as the race laps and time on track increases, I find myself extremely entertained.

^that's what I'm hoping for. I'm so freaking sick and tired of these stupid 3 lap races (or 6 laps races on tiny short tracks). Gimme 15-20 laps / 30-45 minute races. I'm at level 16 so I'm just starting to crack into some longer events.

Also, the other night I loaded up a bunch of mp3s onto the PS3 so now I've got my own personal music soundtrack when i'm racing.

i thought they took that feature out? definitely what i did for b spec back in the day, get him ahead and then have him sit in a holding pattern +1 over the field every lap, after he gets 2 laps ahead i went to sleep. problem is 3x speed would always cut off whenever he would come into pit....

^inexplicably, you can't. you can tweak them pre-race in the settings screen, but not actually purchase upgrade.

new to the game, I bought an Rx-8 and put about $60k in upgrades on it. Hard to keep that thing on the road when cornering. Even with a limited slip diff, although I don't know how to set it for optimum performance

^^wow, I had no idea! I've got a lot of cars but haven't done a lot of tuning and just assumed brake modification was still an option. That's straight up retarded!

And especially upsetting b/c some of the old cars I really enjoy driving (512BB & F40 as examples) have crappy brakes and I figured after a brake upgrade they'd be just about perfect. ugh.

if you can hit the brakes and the tires lock up, then your brakes are working as hard as they need to because the tires are giving out first. I always upgraded brakes so I could increase rear brake bias, but if that's an adjustment in the game then I'm set. This is like being given a free upgrade on every car if true.

I don't remember brake fade ever being part of earlier GT games. Tire fade occurs, but brakes seemed to always work the same. You just couldn't adjust bias.

^you're not looking at it from a totally realistic point of view. Sure, any stock braking system is powerful enough to lock up the tires one, two, or three times. But beyond that in a race track environment most stock braking systems experience brake fade. Add racing slicks and you only increase the problem.

This is supposed to be the more realistic racing simulator. You should at least have the option to install track pads, or take it further and install a BBK. Without these options its not being realistic.

(though AFAIK brake fade does not exist in this game)

okay, so i just hooked up my 5.1 surround sound system and for some reason most of my audio is coming from the front left speaker... not all of it, but its definitely much louder from that direction. i've set the audio settings for a "Living Room" but it doesnt seem to fix this. not just racing sounds, even menu & race BGM's too.

did anyone have surround sound issues with this game? it's only with GT5, everything else plays fine on my PS3.

I had to mess with my sound settings for a while to get it right. I'm only using my TV's speakers and it was configured for 5.1 DD surround sound. Regardless to say a lot of the sound effects were missing until I straightened that out.

It'd be my pleasure.

Is anyone else annoyed by the lack of competitiveness in some of the races? All to often it seems like every car in the race is evenly matched except for one ringer (McLaren F1, Cadillac Cien for example). So while your car might be competitive with the others you don't stand a chance against that one car. This results in you coming back with a faster car and then just blowing them all out of the water. I wish they still did races with horsepower caps like in GT3/GT4. Ugh!

"Gran Turismo 5 v1.05 Update Brings New Events & More, Available Now
Gran Turismo 5 December 20th, 2010 by Jordan

The latest update to Gran Turismo 5, version 1.05, was made available just a few hours ago and weighs in at 608MB. Here’s a quick, official summary of all the new changes, but users are discovering a few more new tweaks in our forums as well:

•Seasonal Events: [Seasonal Events] have been added to the [GT Mode] – [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team. In these events, all participants are under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. Compete on the leader boards with players around the world, in Time Trials and Drift Trials!
•Online Collector’s Dealership: An [Online Collector's Dealership] has been added to the left and centre of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare cars. You might just come across that one car you’ve always been looking for, that you haven’t been able to find in the [Used Car Dealership].
•Online Race Rewards and Experience: When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points. Even if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].
•Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races: The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage]. Here the results from your online play will cumulate within [GT Life].
•Improved Rewards: The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in [GT Mode]-[GT Life] have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011.) This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.
•Race Information Display: It is now possible to set the [Race Info Display] in [Start]-[Quick Options]. (You can also set this in [Race Display] in [Options]).
•Save Data Backup: You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game [Manual].
•User BGM (Menu): From [Options]-[Hardware]-[Audio Settings], it is now possible to set the [User BGM] (Menu)]. (This can also be set from the [Music Library] within [GT Mode]).
•Car Name Change: The official name of “Red Bull X1? has been changed to the “Red Bull X2010?.
•Integration with the Website: The main features within [GT Mode]-[Community] can now also be accessed through the “gran-turismo.com” official website.
•[Important Note:] We have made improvements to the [Log] within [GT Mode]- [Community] section, in order to make its operation more stable. Please note that the information that was contained here from before the update has been reset."

Sweet Jesus, 608MB!

So from what I can tell based on the above description, they upped the prizes recieved for accomplishing certain special events and race series. Based on what I've read from people posting over on http://www.gtplanet.net if you've already beaten the affected areas then you automatically get the new (and improved) prizes the first time you open the game after installing the update.

Sounds pretty sweet to me!
