^LOL! Don't feel bad. One of my guys called me asking if I had an extra shirt since his was in the washer. I told him the game was off and he said, "Oh really."

I hate all of these rain delays. The season was supposed to be over last weekend and not overlap ACC home conference football season.

Quote :
"Sporting Raleigh's game was cancelled due to rain with a reschedule possibility still being unknown. Probably would've won today and ended up 5-5 though - a much better record than previous seasons."

It just sucks that so many important players missed so many games. We would have beat Raleigh FC, if more than 11 guys had come to the game. We've had some close losses while missing some important players this season. I still can't believe 2 guys never came to a game all season. I could have signed someone else who was just as good. Don't ever sign up military reserve members for your weekend team.

I might start going to MVP Sports at the Factory to play Friday night pickup since I only work about 25 minutes from there.

^^^A few people from The Wingmen are playing indoor in the Thursday coed league. I keep trying to retire my current gloves for a new pair, but after closing out the outdoor season by finally getting a win and then opening the indoor season with a win, its hard to let them go.

It is nice to be on a winning streak again. Counting the forfeit win we picked up while I was out on Sunday, that makes 3 in a row between outdoor and indoor.

We lost our first co-Ed indoor game yesterday 4-3, but I did score a goal. It was a lot of fun. I haven't played indoor in a while.

I wish I didn't have so many night hours at work in the middle of the week, or I would play in more week night leagues. I wanted to go to the Factory tomorrow night with the Brazilian guy I work with, but he says he would rather play outdoor. I want to see what I am getting in the spring for my men's open C team.

^How old are you and where do you live? I play in TASL Coed Over 30 on Thursday nights. To play in the Over 30, Over 40, or Over 50 divisions, you have to turn the required age by July 31st to play in the spring, or have a birthday close to that date.

Also, if you live near Fuquay, you might want to check out http://fvaa.org/ because they will put you on a team. Each season they have a draft and the captains pick players. I could end up playing against my entire fall team in the spring, if I return and we all get split up between the different teams. Anyone who registers will be put on a team. It's a Sunday coed league and it only costs $65 for 10 games made up of two 35 minute halves. TASL Charges $110 for 10 coed games made up of two 35 minute halves.

Had to post this, not that anyone will care, but it was pretty awesome.

We had a game at NetSports tonight, tied 7-7 with about 90 seconds left. They score and we kick the ball around trying to get it up field. 10 seconds left, I play the ball up the line and our GK sprints the full length of the field down the middle. Guy I pass to chips over the defenders head and our GK heads it in as the buzzer sounds to draw 8-8. Best ending ever in my rec league history.

We drew 4-4 on Wednesday. We went up 4-3 with about a minute to go, but they scored a late goal.

^^LOL! I saw a last second goal one time when I was playing there.

Anyway, did everyone take the survey about TASL that was sent to all players by e-mail? It showed up in my junk mail. I think everyone should take it because it asks you what you think about the fields, refs, game times, locations, etc.

I used it to write the below message and then I sent it to Donna and Daniel too...

Quote :
"I would like a new complex, but I would not want 100% of the games there. You guys mentioned buying land in Durham. I live in Garner just down the road from the cheaper and closer FVAA league. Not everyone wants to drive to Durham for every game. My team and the guys I know on the other teams hate Twin Lakes because we all live in Apex, Cary, Garner, and North Raleigh. Middle Creek, Preston Woods, Davis Drive, and the Soccer Center are closest for us. We do have a guy on the team who lives in Chapel Hill though, so having some games at Twin Lakes is only fair. By playing in different places, everyone gets half of the games close to home. Instead of focusing on building one large complex with 4, or 6 fields, build two smaller complexes with 2 or 3 fields each. Put one a little farther west on the Raleigh/Durham border and put the other one more central/east in Wake County. Dick Bailey had mentioned to me that buying Dorthea Dix is a possibility, which would be a great location. Once you have two 3 field facilities, split the 10 game schedules for men’s and women’s leagues so that 50% of the games are played at TASL Soccer Park East and the other 50% at TASL Soccer Park West. Then have Coed Over 30, Coed A, and Coed C play 70% of their games at TASL Soccer Park West. The rest of the Coed leagues could play 70% of their games at TASL Soccer Park East. This is what would happen in the prefect world. Keep games close to home for everyone and not just the citizens of one town."

Donna responded with this message...

Quote :
"Thank you for your input Eric. We agree with you! Even if we built a 6 field complex, which is more of a dream, it would not be enough fields to play all of our games on a Saturday. So we will always be in multiple locations. We are looking at land in several different areas of Wake County. The western part (Durham Co. border) and the Garner area and more north east as well. We are also building up the cash reserves so that we can move forward with a project. I will pass your info along!"

This was nice to hear.

They just gave us t-shirts when the league started my team. If you go to Target, you can buy cheap shirts that have no logos or anything on them. The brand is called Jerzees. Our league already has multiple red teams, royal blue (Duke/Durham Bulls), black, neon yellow, white, and a cream yellow color. The home team has to change colors when there is a color conflict. Your best bet to avoid any color conflict in Open C would probably be to wear brown, orange, or army green. Once you get your uniforms then you will have to go to Bay Six, or the Soccer Post to get numbers printed on them. That will usually take about a week for them to finish.

^There are no sky blue teams either! It is a good idea to use something that you can find season after season and cheap because those printing places only fill mass orders of 13+ shirts. They won't just order 1 uniform for you.

btw, the deadline for registering and having 14 paid players is January 30th. It's 22 days away and I still only have 6 of us signed up and one that has paid. It usually takes about 3, or 4 e-mails and a phone call to get people to sign up, otherwise they don't think about it. Depending on how dedicated your team is to playing will depend on how many players you need. Most teams have 20+ players on roster because that usually means about 16, or less will show up. There will always be a wedding, funeral, vacation, injury, or work schedule that causes at least a third of the team to miss each game. I've never had everyone show up on the same weekend.

Oh and you need to have 7+ players there to play the game. If less than that show up you forfeit and will be fined $120. You can't play again and have your games count until you send another bond to the league. Be respectful to the rest of the league and make sure you have 10+ players show up each game because we paid to play in this league too and don't want to have all of our games called off. Like I said, most teams have 20+ players. Hibernian has 24 I think and I always keep my roster at 21 incase everyone would actually show up (10 starters + 10 reserves + 1 GK). Go one over that and you will have 3 people playing one position when everyone shows up.

^Trust me, someone will be missing every weekend. It won't hurt you, if you up your roster to 20 players. No one plans for the injuries, or funerals to happen, but they do along with the weddings and vacations. Is anyone on your team in the military reserves? I've had two sign up that were reserves. One made it to 2 out of the 7 games he signed up for and the other made it to 0 games. The weekends they aren't with the military are the weekends that they are out because of weddings, or injury. Another thing to think about is how many people could have to work on the weekend because of their normal schedule, or being called in? This happens with my team every season too.

Then there is the Wolfpack. You'll just have to DVR the games. Don't skip just because you want to watch a regular season game, the ACC Tournament Semi-finals, NCAA Tournament 2nd Round, NCAA Regional Final, or the NCAA Tournament Semi-finals.

d7freestyler has played in Open C for multiple seasons with Hibernian. I don't know what division they are playing in this year though because they finished second 2 seasons ago and were going to play Open B, but then their roster fell apart. Also, markgoal is returning this season for us.

Is everyone having as much fun as I am with registration? I have 15 signed up and three are unpaid yet. One guy who used to play on my team wants to come back and bring 3 friends, but only one of them has signed up and paid and two of them are unsure, if they want to play.

I just talked to a guy from last season who told me he wanted to play again about a month ago, but now he says he might play on an Open A team this season and will let me know later this week. His friend who played with us isn't going to listen to his doctor and wants to play on the Open A team too. If that Open A team doesn't let them play then they want to play on my team again. They have a friend who they told to sign up for my team. He said he was and after a week he didn't, so I worte him back and he said he changed his mind because him and his wife are too busy.

I asked a guy from the player pool, if he wanted to play on my team and he said he will let me know after he tries out with an Open B team on Monday.

One guy quite and wants to come back in the fall.

Another guy wouldn't respond to any of my e-mails and after calling him multiple times he finally said he is 80% sure he isn't going to play because of a possible layoff.

The league is sending me and some of the other captains e-mails, trying to get us to sign some players who played on a crappy Open C team last season that has now folded.

I just want 17 guys who want to return every season and not fuck around with registration for two months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
