i do not know which part of this statement annoys me the most. the hypocrital eating of an expensive dish or looking down at his parents for not being able to provide such comforts and getting them at a protest of those who have easy access to them. OR that this dipshit cannot make any connection between any of his/her disconnects.

Someone should organize a job fair in the park. Have companies come in complete with booths, presentation boards and shit, and see how many people get off their ass and try to get a job. I mean really, all of the unemployed people in one place would make it great, right?

PETA pretty much leaves us alone. Their propaganda stays pretty isolated within the walls of their compound. Besides the name PETA, the building doesn't have signage or banners. No flood of billboards or advertisements on the roads. No complaints here.

Obama has received more funding from Wall Street than any other politician in the past 20 years

Quote :
"Despite his rhetorical attacks on Wall Street, a study by the Sunlight Foundation’s Influence Project shows that President Barack Obama has received more money from Wall Street than any other politician over the past 20 years, including former President George W. Bush.

In 2008, Wall Street’s largesse accounted for 20 percent of Obama’s total take, according to Reuters."

Quote :
"Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer says the distance between the president’s rhetoric and actions makes him look hypocritical.

“It’s almost as if President Obama won’t cross across a Wall Street picket line except to get inside with [his] hand out, so he can raise money,” Fleischer told TheDC, referring to the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators who the president has been encouraging over the past week. “That sort of support causes him to look hypocritical.”"

See. This is what upsets me. Conservatives should love Obama, because he's practically one of them. Only liberals should be allowed to be upset with Obama. I wonder what the world would be like Howard Dean didn't make stupid noises.

I feel like most people, especially the ones blasting the protest and protesters, really have no idea what it is about. It isn't an Obama re-election campaign. It isn't a "the rich people should be poor too, let's take the money from them." It isn't a bunch of lazy college kids bitching about something trivial like most protests.

Grayson put it pretty well.

I love how the people against the protest are so quick to turn it into a "they want socialism" or "they don't want to work" or "they're jealous of the accomplishments of others" argument, which is pretty far from reality.

Sure, they may not have a concrete proposal for how to get the nation back on track. They may not have the most organized or concise list of goals. That doesn't mean they aren't frustrated with feeling like they're being ignored by a government that is supposed to represent them.

I don't know, but DNC/Obama admin are trying to hijack the movement. Clearly, this is for political reasons - both party establishments stand firmly behind the banking class, and they will resist any attempts to alter the status quo.

This is actually one reason why I see the so called "lunatic fringe" of a protest as important. It keeps the established politicians from latching too closely on to a protest movement. If they did the opposing politicians would expect an explanantion about every single zany demand that comes out of a protestors mouth (which, lets face it isn't possible).

instead its best for sympathetic politicians to say something along the lines of "I identify with their general frustration blah blah blah." Then its up to the protestors to make sure said politician follows through with some of their promises.

For this reason if you see someone flying their freak flag at a protest you should cheer them on (unless its something overtly offensive/racist etc)

This assumes that conservatives or liberals, on the whole, actually care about policy. In reality, politics is just another area for tribalism to take hold. It doesn't matter what's best or what's proven to work/fail. All that matters is that you stick with your team through thick and thin, no matter how bad they perform during the season. Strength, at least as our primitive urges inform us, is derived from group cohesiveness; being "right" doesn't matter if you don't win out over the other regional tribes.

If you're able to transcend tribalism, it's clear that neither "team" is doing anything right and that the whole thing is a dog and pony show; both parties collude to serve corporate interests. It's clear as fucking day.

Most of the protestors don't understand exactly how we got to this point or what we could do to start progressing again. We need to get back to a real, market economy that isn't purely built on leverage.

The median pay for chief financial officers of the S&P 500 companies increased 19% to $2,900,000 just last year.

Over the past 10 years, the median family income has decreased by more than $2500.

Wall St. tanked our economy and no one was investigated, prosecuted or imprisoned. No one was held accountable, and some of you are wondering why people are taking to the streets?

So your answer is they should give this away for free. Gotcha.

Let's take it one step further. Let's say I needed a factory and lab and bio containers to build up a cure and package it and give it to you. Let's also assume I need a few 1000 workers to help me build this.

How much should I pay them and how much should I get for organizing this effort.

This exact same effort happened as well in the same story you refer to. Is this drug currently freely given away like water? SHOULD it be?

This.

No one was held accountable. I'm not one for protesting or taking to the streets (just yet) and I'm not going to pretend like I know what will fix everything. All I know is that I'm not alone in the fact that I feel unhappy and frustrated with the way things are going, and I think it is refreshing to see people getting upset and trying to have their voices heard.

holy fucking shit. i even said clearly that i would fucking run the cure up to the god damn hospital bed of gunzz dying grandmother if i had to. for no damn profit. but people are going to magically show up at my factory to build the damn thing if i don't reward them with something.

When you say "Wall Street tanked our economy," what you mean to say is that the private banking system tanked our economy. The problem wasn't the stock market, the problem was excessive credit and a derivatives market where good loans were packaged with bad loans by banks. None of this was illegal, it was all openly condoned by the government. Why would the government prosecute the banks? The government engineered the entire fucking thing. Not to mention that the bankers that you think need to be prosecuted were appointed to high level political positions.

If you read my posts, you'll realize that at least half of what I talk about is the Federal Reserve. I'm not a lunatic. The central bank is at the center of our entire banking system, and it is absolutely, incontrovertibly the cause of the economic crisis. Virtually all of this excess credit that has blown up bubbles has come from the Federal Reserve. I can make just a few of you come to terms with that, and I think I already have, then I've done a good thing.

The only way that we will ever escape this quagmire of debt and depressed growth is to allow the banks to fail, abolish or at least reign in the Fed, and return to an economy where credit is in proportion with savings. We cannot sustainably have a low national savings rate while also having widely accessible, large lines of credit. Credit needs to originate from savings.

I worked for a vaccine company so I mean it's fine if you sell your miracle cure that apparently you are too stupid to invent irl

You could Jonas Salk that shit though

Quote :
"In 1947, Salk accepted an appointment to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In 1948, he undertook a project funded by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis to determine the number of different types of polio virus. Salk saw an opportunity to extend this project towards developing a vaccine against polio, and, together with the skilled research team he assembled, devoted himself to this work for the next seven years. The field trial set up to test the Salk vaccine was, according to O'Neill, "the most elaborate program of its kind in history, involving 20,000 physicians and public health officers, 64,000 school personnel, and 220,000 volunteers." Over 1,800,000 school children took part in the trial. When news of the vaccine's success was made public on April 12, 1955, Salk was hailed as a "miracle worker", and the day "almost became a national holiday." His sole focus had been to develop a safe and effective vaccine as rapidly as possible, with no interest in personal profit. When he was asked in a televised interview who owned the patent to the vaccine, Salk replied: "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?""

How do we know without an investigation? In the 1980s when the S&L crisis hit, there were over 1,000 felony convictions where executives went to prison.

Why hasn't anyone from Countrywide gone to prison?

Pretty much...GOP deregulation coupled with Democrats encouraging home ownership by those who had no business doing so, along with the Fed giving money away and a culture of idiot Americans consuming everything in sight--be it double Whoppers or houses--with no personal responsibility whatsoever.
