The Tek Cafe - Grand Opening: Tuesday September 30

submitted by thetek on Friday, September 26 2003 at 5:19 PM

The Tek Cafe & Internet Gaming Center located across from Meredith College on Hillsborough Street, will be kicking off their 'Grand Opening Month' with a Free For All on September 30. On this day, anyone who shows up is eligible to receive a free hour on a PC or an X-Box. In addition, all coffee drinks, including espresso based drinks, will be free (1 per person).

This day is aimed at increasing the awareness of the locally owned shops in the Royal Bakery. The Bakery, which offers a covered parking garage, and ample outdoor parking, is home to several local businesses, including Triangle Condos, Ben & Jerry's, The Buzz, and Playmakers. The stores of the Royal Bakery are pulling together, offering discounts and free items to patrons. Be sure to stop by on September 30 and check us out.

4 XBox's, so potentially 16 players.
$5.50 hourly rate per person.

How does this fare to other Internet cafes?

This sounds more like an ad than news.

I hope they are doing well. I was going to be involved in it, and thought it was a pretty good idea. Seems like there has been lots of talk about it on TWW.

it sure as hell beats going to kinko's to pay for internet and printing...

I am really big on this idea. I have spent time in cities other than raleigh and having internet cafe's is essential. $5.50 an hour is a great price as well. I will try and hit this up sometime soon just to see what it is all about. Plus it's a locally owned business... Should be a cool place to go and hang out.

I've been there and it looks like a nice place. Nice workstations with comfortable chairs and headphones. I'm not a gamer though. All the X-Box nice comfortable couches/chairs too. It would be a good chance to take a small group out there today and play an hour for free.

What's up with $5.50 an hour? Was $5.00 even too convenient?

Helio's is a coffee house on Glenwood with Interent Access. Do not know their prices. They are NOT a gaming center, and don't have printers, etc.

Maybe if they buy an ad first you will.

GOT A BETTER STORY?, try submitting it: http://www.thewolfweb.com/story_submit.aspx Otherwise, STFU.

jaheller, can we say cheap?

5.50 is more than fair. Triangle Gaming Zone, a moreso gaming center in cary that closed a couple years ago charged the same rate.

Well you don't have to buy the membership... Just $5.50 an hour. The really nice thing about this is that you get what you pay for. Most places I have been if you stay for 50 minutes you pay for an hour. Not good. With this you prepay and the minutes are deducted from what you use. Also the prices go down for the amount of hours you get. So the more you buy the better deal you get.

Sounds a lot more expensive than sitting in my dorm room playing my Xbox (no it does not have a hyphen) and using my laptop...

philihp, can we say reading comprehension?

I wasn't complaining that the price was too expensive (although I think it is given the assumed target audience of college students). Just the oddness of the extra $.50. per hour gets me. It would be so much easier to be able to pay in fives, tens and twenties instead of busting out change.

And since you brought it up, if $5.50 an hour is so cheap, how come Triangle Gaming Zone closed down if it was charging the same low rate???
