GOP admitting they were wrong about the auto-bailouts?

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/02/21/429279/romney-endorser-corrects-him-on-auto-rescue-no-one-could-have-saved-the-industry-except-the-government/?mobile=nc

Quote :
"UPTON: I did not see the article that he wrote. I do know that all of the Michigan delegation worked very hard as related to the revival of the auto industry. There was really a choice between bankruptcy and liquidation. There was no one that was willing to come up not only with the cash to keep them afloat but also to serve the warranties of everyone, you and I that drive all these cars. There was no one that could have picked up those pieces other than the federal government."

Quote :
"Upton isn’t the only Michigan politician to criticize Romney’s position. Gov. Rick Snyder (R), who also endorsed Romney, told the New York Times last November that the GOP should stop criticizing the auto rescue, saying he wouldn’t “second-guess” it because “the auto industry is doing very well today.” "

A good analogy I heard was you don't bitch to a doctor about being cured because there might have been another treatment. Granted, there really was no other treatment here, and it's nice to see the GOP finally acknowledging it. +1 credibility!

So the governor of the state that benefited the most from this policy says it worked and not the national stage leaders? Let me know when Newt Gingrich admits we saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of income by letting the government out of its cage.

I don't get Upton. On the one hand he was a harsh critic of Obama for giving money to Solyndra, but on the other hand not a harsh critic for giving it to auto companies? Tell me again, why do we give a shit what he says?

And fucking come on, of course the Governor of the state is going to say a program worked where the federal government kept his constituents employed. The fuck is he going to say? Umm, you guys shouldn't have these jobs because your companies business models failed...vote for me please!

Is there ready evidence that the auto companies literally couldn't get loans? Or was it a combination of, they could get them but the unions wouldn't take the concessions and were willing to let their members go jobless in a high stakes game of chicken they were destined to lose were it not for the federal government?

Also...Ford?

Bush-Appointed Federal Judge Sends Racist, Anti-Obama Email Comparing Interracial Sex To Bestiality

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/03/01/435284/bush-appointed-federal-judge-sends-racist-anti-obama-email-comparing-interracial-sex-to-bestiality/

The email in question:

Quote :
""Normally I don't send or forward a lot of these, but even by my standards, it was a bit touching. I want all of my friends to feel what I felt when I read this. Hope it touches your heart like it did mine.

"A little boy said to his mother; 'Mommy, how come I'm black and you're white?'

"His mother replied, 'Don't even go there Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you're lucky you don't bark!'"
"

The judge on the whole thing:

Quote :
"He admitted that he read the email and intended to send it to his friends.

“The only reason I can explain it to you is I am not a fan of our president, but this goes beyond not being a fan,” Cebull said. “I didn’t send it as racist, although that’s what it is. I sent it out because it’s anti-Obama.“"

This assessment sounds pretty familiar:

Quote :
"Cebull’s email is inexcusable, and his explanation for sending it only makes things worse. At best, Cebull has admitted that he despises President Obama so much that he lacks the ability to exercise basic judgment when confronted with an opportunity to insult the president."

"But court records reveal that Brown and her husband filed for bankruptcy last fall with $4,500 in unpaid medical bills. Those bills could change Brown from a symbol of proud independence into an example of exactly the problem the healthcare law was intended to address."

Quote :
"But by then, Brown's small auto repair shop near Panama City, Fla., had closed, and she and her husband had filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition. Brown said in the petition that her only income was $275 a month in unemployment benefits."

dude. if $4500 bankrupts you, then you were never a symbol of "proud independence". She was already fucked at that point. You could easily have a house repair bill that costs that much.

Quote :
"GOP is losing women over reproductive health debate

Hard-won Republican gains among female voters have all but evaporated amid a noisy national debate over reproductive health. That opinion shift — if it lasts — could hand a big advantage to President Barack Obama and the Democrats in the fall, political analysts say.
In the 2010 midterm elections, the GOP regained control of the House in large part because its candidates ran evenly with Democrats among women, an exception to the "gender gap" pattern that has been a standard feature of U.S. politics for more than three decades.
Yet recent polls have found damage to the Republican brand and its candidates from a detour into classic cultural-war fights about contraception — who should have it and who should pay for it — and proper sexual behavior for women.

"-Alabama's pretty much on board with interracial marriage, with 67% of voters thinking it should be legal to 21% who think it should not be. There's still some skepticism in Mississippi though- only 54% of voters think it should be legal, while 29% believe it should be illegal. Newt cleans up with the 'interracial marriage should be illegal' crowd in both states"

There are still people that think there should be a law against interracial marriage? What in the fuck? Sometimes I'm truly embarrassed to live in a "southern" state.

If an unborn fetus is some abnormal growth as the result of some act by the woman, what's the harm in performing an ultrasound on the woman before the "growth" is removed from her?

Before I had my L4-L5 intervertebral disc removed, I had some X-Rays and an MRI to make sure the doctor knew what he was taking out.

Before my wife had her gallbladder removed, she had an ultrasound performed on her to make sure it wasn't infected.

^ no harm, but that's a decision by a doctor and patient.
