so....I know nothing about this tech mess.

anyways...I just got a touch pro 2...

what should I do when this droid comes out?

take back the TP2 and exchange?

I bet this is a dumb question, no way to put droid on my TP2 is there?

i do not see anything beating bb e-mail integration, but bb sucks for web browsing compared to iphone, cant wait to see how android does at all this

^ I want a real e-mail client on my phone, not pretend e-mail. Pushing mail to my phone is nice, but it's a useless feature if you don't have true two-way sync with messages. Your BB can't do that.

While I suppose I should be thankful this thread doesn't have "(today|tomorrow)" in the title, I would like to point out that Google Android is NOT just for phones.

There's already a whole thread about the nook, although it too has an absolutely shitty thread title, so it's not like you would know what it's about from searching/looking at thread titles.

I didn't say his post was in the wrong thread. Just informing him that if he happened to want to discuss the nook in further detail, there was already a specific thread for that. A fact that isn't obvious at all because the genius that made the thread about the nook decided to not actually use the word "nook" anywhere in the title.

[Edited on October 21, 2009 at 11:56 AM. Reason : also he mentioned stupid thread naming habits, and that thread is superdumb titled.]

Yea, I noticed the other thread.

Actually, I maintain that my post in this thread is very valid due to the title, and in fact may be more valid in this thread instead of the other one. Be that as it may, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the other thread.

That's the Motorola Calgary which should be the 2nd motorola android from verizon. Keyboard looks a little better but could be bigger and it's supposed to come with the Motoblur platform.

I, too, hate physical keyboards. I think its dated and adds too much to the depth of the phone. Plus the less moving parts to break the better.

Are these photos of prototypes? Because the material used looks really cheap. Unless that is what they're going for.

I think that's just motorola.

The Samsung Moment from Sprint looks decent and is due out Nov 1 for $179 after rebate. 800Mhz processor and a 3.2" AMOLED screen.

^ it was. i'm just rolling my eyes at lucas filing a trademark for it. maybe he/they will trademark "force" and "it's a trap" too. maybe mel brooks can then trademark "schwartz" and "ludicrous speed."

It wasn't really slang for android, it was the actual word. "Android" was never used.

It's like "Mech" from battletech. Sure you could argue it's just shortened "mecha" but it's also the formal term for the vehicles, so trademarking the name seems like fair game.

The Droid is just as thin if not thinner, as the iPhone.

You are close on the release date.

Also it is a solid phone may look cheap in photos but feels great in your hand and super fast and it is a really slick user interface.

Also the Storm2 is much improved but just not enough for me to make a difference as the initial launch basically sealed the fate for the storm fleet.

It will be unveiled on the 28th at the Droid event but probably won't be released until the beginning of November based on the commercial. Verizon also has another android phone that they're referring to as the Droid Eris that is supposedly being released on Nov 6th.

^ original release of the storm was shit but that's been pretty much fixed with the latest 5.0 leaks. Mine is pretty damn stable and fast running .323 and performance wise, I'd put it up against any phone on the market.

I was reading about ^ that phone on gdgt earlier today. Apparently it's not going to be touchscreen, but you'll use the trackball. If you have a nice-sized screen, why wouldn't you want to use tough gestures?

I thought it was supposed to be like the HTC Hero with the sense UI? Plus how on earth would you type if it wasn't touchscreen with no physical keyboard.

Here are some new details regarding Verizon and their Android offerings. The Droid brand name will not be limited to a single device. It will actually be the name for the carrier’s complete range of Android phones. Aside from the Sholes which is now known as the Motorola Droid, it’s also confirmed that the HTC Desire will also be part of Verizon’s new Droid family. It will be released on November 6th and dubbed as the Droid Eris. Info on its specs are pretty scarce at the moment, but based on what’s already been reported on the internet, it’ll come with HTC’s new Sense UI, 3G connectivity, and as you can see in the picture, a trackball for navigation. Another interesting thing to note with the Droid Eris is that it will be a full touchscreen device sans the QWERTY keypad which will surely help diversify Verizon’s Droid family – the Motorola Droid for QWERTY lovers and the HTC Droid Eris for those with an aversion to the full QWERTY keypad design. Pricing though wasn’t made available."

probably deleting mail from the server = message removed from phone. believe yahoo has it and gmail will soon. Or he might be talking about folder sync, etc.
