One day soon* I'll be able to stroll out to my driveway, hop in my personal aircraft, and travel to the moon.

Now I just sit back and wait for the day when that can happen, so I can brag on the internet about how I told everybody so.

*soon being sometime between the next 2 weeks and the next 2,000 years. But the timeline really isn't that important.

"The Internet search engine unveiled a revamped version of its Google TV service on Friday, bringing new features aimed at making the product easier-to-use and more appealing to consumers.

The new 2.0 version of Google TV provides new tools for recommending movies, TV programs and online videos to TV viewers, and makes it easier for software developers to create new apps for the television screen.

"There's a lot of thirst for using the Web in the living room," said Google Product Management VP Mario Queiroz, who is leading the Google TV initiative."

Got this earlier this morning, here's hoping a few weeks really means "a few days" and not 6 months.

Can these things stream from a DLNA source or from a Windows share? I've seen some mentions of a Logitech Media app on the Revue that might be able to do it but I can't confirm nor deny this.

^For the DLNA support, I assume its via that Logitech app?

Yep. Although this (and probably a handful of other 3rd party apps) should change things once the update hits.

^^Yes, the Revue supports DLNA streaming through the media player. I've had the most success with using the windows media server app TVersity. One major caveat about the Logitech's native media player is that it doesn't support the DTS audio codec, which sucks becuase that's the most common format for ripped Blu-ray DVDs. It does support AC3 however, but the extracting/re-encoding process is a huge pain in the ass. The hope that this remedied by a 3rd party app is the only reason I've kept the box throughout this major flaw.

I have my new Roku 2 XS plugged into the HDMI-in on my Revue and I've been using that. If this google tv update isn't spectacular the roku will take it's place permanently.

I already have a Roku....

I'm wanting a web browser on my TV - and I'm either getting a Revue, a Boxee or rigging up a computer to do the lifting. I liked that I could still watch TV in the picture in picture while browsing. But this update needs to drop yesterday so it's up to snuff with a bugfix by the time I'm plugging it up the day after christmas.

I've already given up on the google talk video integration and I'm snapping up some biscotti for non-techno family members.

^ 12/6 will launch a new Xbox Dashboard.

Will have integrated Bing content search, LiveTV services for several major cableco's, Phone companion app, Voice and Kinect integration throughout.

Basically it's adding everything GoogleTV does poorly, plus CableTV integration, plus kinect, plus voice. All for $99 bucks (+40/yr for xbox live).

Eh. I'm not saying I'm not looking forward to a couple of the new features of the new Xbox Dashboard. But you're REALLY stretching things there.

Which, given your ardent fervor for all things Microsoft, isn't remotely surprising.

So is the Revue finally worth $99?

(I know it's EOL) Is there any other companion box that's coming out? I really don't want to have to buy a TV to get Google TV....

I just went by my sister's house this afternoon to visit my Revue. Still no update.

There is no way you could intelligently answer this question with a simple Yes or No[pe] answer, but depending on what features you are looking for and what you want to do with it, it can most certainly be worth $99. My sister loves hers and uses it every single day. Of course, she paid $0 for it, so that might have something to do with it.

^^here's what I meant by "worth $99?"...

Does it finally compete with other devices that provide a similar service and similar specs? Like the Roku, Boxee, etc.

I mean, the real benefit that I saw the Revue having was that you could connect to your Dish Network box... I was really hoping this would spread to interface with all the STB's on the market, this is really where GoogleTV separates itself from the competition, but it seems GoogleTV is getting stonewalled on that arena.

Well that and playing Android apps/games on your TV.
