I don't want to start a new thread every season. Please use this thread to organize/find teams and organize/find pickup games.

Next Tuesday the total team fee is due for the TASL fall 2010 season. I just wish my returning players would sign up, so I could figure out if my roster is short, or full. It should be fun again though. There will be at least 3 twwers on my team (counting me). Also, the hot head English guys from my team last season formed a new team and stole 2 of my fullbacks.

As for signing up for organized rec league soccer in the triangle area. Try...

this should be a useful thread. i didn't want to bump the fall league thread to talk about summer heat...

we're holding our own this summer on the hibernian team. in a solid 4th in the league (due to the head to head tie breaker) and we've scored the most goals so far
we even got our first shutout of the season thursday and made some grown men cry.

Ah, so that's why...

EDIT: I've been hitting up the SAS Soccer fields the past two weeks just to warm up my right leg. I still have a hamstring injury from last season. I definitely can't sprint, but I can do everything else. I'm not sure yet if doing anything this fall is the right idea.

I currently play on a D-league coed team in TASL and I played on a coed B-league team last fall (it's since disbanded). As it stands, I think I may want to get on another team (coed or men's open doesn't matter) either in addition to or in lieu of the team I'm currently on. If anyone is looking for another player, pm me and we'll see if the circumstances (skill-level, positions needed) match-up. I typically play defense, but I'm comfortable playing anywhere on the field and would actually prefer the chance to play some at positions other than defense.

i'm sure you'll get a PM or two. nobody wants to play defense so it seems lots of teams are always looking for defenders...

^Yeh I actually grabbed some guys that wanted to play defender. Now if they are good or not is TBA. About half of my roster is made up of guys who list defender as their primary, or secondary position, so that is good.

God what is up with Wake Med Soccer Park pickup? What field and when?

Also I used to play pick up with some people who play in the Holly Springs Coed League. I don't know if they play in the fall or not though. The rest of the sports leagues seem to be updated for the fall 2010 season and soccer isn't.

http://www.hollyspringsnc.us/dept/park/adsoccer.html

Also, I think pretty much every night of the week there is pick up soccer at Lynn Road Elementary School. The guys from my team in the spring used to play there on Thursday night.

When I say "SAS Soccer fields" I don't mean the Wake Med soccer park. I mean I actually go to SAS Institute and play on their fields. They have a nice pitch, and there's a small parking lot nearby where you can walk briefly through the woods to play on the fields. I haven't been hassled by the security guards yet. 99% of the time I'm the only one there on the evenings, so I just take a couple hundred shots before calling it a day.

^5 That's good news. Most of the time it seems the guys with the least experience are put in the back. It would be nice to have a team with a solid defense. Not giving up easy goals can go a long way in rec league.

Anybody play regularly at NetSports anymore? I know some of you guys did a few seasons ago. Summer is wrapping up soon. My team has gotten so big that I think we are going to split into B leauge and Over 30 B league teams.

Also, anyone ever go play pickup at XL on Sunday mornings? I've been a few times, it's a mixed bag but the timing is ok with me (having 2 kids means trying to fit in soccer whenever I can).

^I went 1 time about 5, or 6 years ago and you have to get there early. A friend of mine went yesterday and said you need to get there by 7:00 am to get a spot. What time is kickoff and how much does it cost? When I play pickup I tend to go to Davis Dr. Park at 9:30 am on Saturday.

Yeah 7am is start time at XL on Sundays. It's $10 and usually goes for at least 2 hours. I've been before where only a dozen or so people were there and you just played non stop that entire time. I've also been where there were 3 full teams of 7 and you rotate off every other game (25 minutes long).

What's the scoop on Davis Dr. pickup? Is it organized before hand or do you just show up at 9:30 and play?

^^They raised the cost to $10? It was $8 when I went once and the first 21 to show up got to play. Davis Dr. is ok, but there really aren't any rules, out of bounds, or people wanting to play GK. That can result in 12 vs 12 with small goals sometimes. It's not always like that though. Last time I was there about 10 people showed up and they used the cones for goals. They're fun to play with though. Just show up at the park about 9:30 am on Saturday morning. They play on the end of the park with 3 fields next to each other. White Oak Park is around teh corner and is the back up meeting place incase league play is using all 4 fields.

^What time?

I'm questionable for fall, which is why I haven't paid any fees yet. My leg feels okay when I take shots, but I can't run any faster than a brisk pace at the moment. Sprinting is completely off the table at this point.

In case anyone wants to know how to get on the SAS fields:

Turn in at Research drive. Just before the security gate there's a left turn. Take it. There's a parking lot to your immediate right. Park at that red dot. If you walk east through the woods past a cemetery on your left, you'll walk right out onto the soccer fields. Don't play on them if they're closed.

Every time I go there it's completely empty. However, a lot of people play there early Saturday morning around 9am.

ball pwnt my wrist today. Was practicing with a friend who was a starting D1 college striker. Only my 3rd time practicing goal again in years. We were working on 1on1s and he took a pretty hard shot that bent my wrist on my left hand wayyyy back. 1.5 hrs later and it isnt swollen or anything so I don't think it is broken or sprained but it hurts like hell to put any weight on

We played tonight at NetSports against a bunch of serious asshats. There were probably 3 or 4 guys on this team who were way too physical. I mean every time you came near the ball they were shoving you into the walls. Luckily once when I got shoved down it was in view of the ref who booked the guy and sent him off for 2 minutes, but it continued all game. Eventually one guy full-on checked me into the boards like we were playing ice hockey after I beat him to the ball and then shoved me again to the ground.

Totally ruined the game for me. I chewed out their entire team on the bench on the way off the field and didn't go back on after that. I was afraid I'd flip out on whoever shoved me again and that's the last thing I want to happen. I mean it's a rec B league, they were already beating us handily, there was no need for constant physical abuse. It really pisses me off when people take it too seriously, I'm out there to have fun and get some exercise, not get hurt. Now I'm limping around for a day or two thanks to a bruised knee after that body check into the boards...

^^That happened to me in the spring when I jammed my ring finger on my left hand about 5 minutes before kickoff in warm ups. About a month ago it started to feel better again.

Oh and btw Men's Open C players, I went to pay my performance bond at TASL today. Andy was making the schedule right when I walked in. We are an 8 team league this year. Royal Pains are coming back from Men's Open B. Another team is coming back (I forget who), and the hot head English guys from my team in the spring started a new Men's Open C team called Garden City Eagles. Fullvaso and Sasquatch are being forced up to Men's Open B.

^It should be, but it sort of sucks because 7 x 2 = 14 and 5 x 2 = 10. We still only play 10 games and the computer randomly picks the games. I just hope our teams get to play each other twice and my team avoids playing the 2 best teams twice. I would like 2 games with GCE and HFC. I wouldn't complain, if we got 2 chances at Sheperds House of War either. Hopefully we get a few weeks to warm up before the games vs GCE and HFC. We owe you guys 2 losses.

^ Yeah cost is $100. It does get pricey.

Depends on which field you play on. We play at WRAL and some games are on the big Durham Bulls field and those are 11vs11. Otherwise its 10vs10. I think its 3 girls on field for 10 and 4 for 11.
