im in law school so (besides the debt) i'm not gonna take the time to configure a real nice server without at least getting something out of it, im not currently out a computer because it uses the same charger as my new computer but i take that to school for most of the day

I'm pretty sure half of the TWW Minecraft userbase has a better computer laying around to run a server on than that laptop. I sure do.

The thing is that Noen is way better at it.

Yeah I've got a 24/7 server running 1.7 on a desktop with a 5mbit upload and SSD. Only like 3 people on it though. Kind of waiting for 1.8 to start over.

Not sure about the minor version, but I've been running a 1.8 server for days with no issues.

I have managed to corrupt two maps and hard permi-crash 1 other map in less than a week, with only me using it. It's brutally unstable.

^I'd hope so. There aren't that many distinct problems, just that the ones that are there are BIG and really nasty (map corruption, hard crashes).

we need a definite plan with updates

either
1) upconvert the map (mistakes and all) but place new spawn points away from it so thats its still visitable but new content is where the main action is or
2) multiworld plugin and each new version is a new world

Well, I spawned and I've found a tiny log fortress, but I can't break blocks

Turns out the login failure was b/c I had revered to 1.7 and the new official 1.8 broke the 1.7 login system, meaning I couldn't login and update successfully, so I had to force the update to get the login to work - just FYI if anyone else has the issues.

Make sure you use the ip and port listed in the first post of this thread. The wiki has the wrong port - the last 0 should be a 5.

played 1.8 a little today on my friends minecraft account. Build a slick house till the world file went corrupted and couldn't play anymore. 2nd world, a few more hours in... then I died and lost all my stuff... yup... I think I'll hang the rob up. MC not my tea. fun though.
