It has definitely gotten better in some ways, and worse in others (homelessness is just a visible as SF these days). I still think Seattle is the much better PNW option, but the last time I was there, I enjoyed myself.

arriving on Sunday evening for a conference & staying through Fri @ noon (w/ no rental car)

staying at the waterfront in downtown, but definitely doesn't look like anything cool is in close proximity
