God I can't wait to eat here, but it's not going to be a cheap meal by any means.

Quarter Fried Chicken and two sides alone is 14.50, then I could never resist those desserts.

Oh well 20 bucks is worth it for fried chicken heaven.

Still wondering if this is a truncated menu for the "soft" opening. I love small menues (especially those that rotate seasonal main courses in) but 2 options (if its not late night) is a bit limited in my opinion. Im not complaining, just more curious I guess. I would probably get the 1/4 fried chicken and 2 sides every trip anyways.

It's a fried chicken joint. They only serve fried chicken. Next door only serves burgers.

Even at Poole's, there are only 4-5 main course options on any given night, and two of them (the Royale and the roasted chicken) never change.

I don't think anything that sells a two piece for $15 qualifies as a "joint".

I may try it on a special occasion.
In the meantime, I'm happy with my Bojangles meal if I want fried chicken and good sides.

I feel like pooles usually has 6-9 options on any given night, I'm not asking for a ton of variation, but a fried chicken salad, strips, wings, different flavored crust. I don't know 4-5 options seems more practical.

Nope. Five entrees every single night unless there's a special, which isn't that common.

jesus christ this place is expensive... granted the food might be good, but 8 bucks for 2 pieces of chicken? 3.50 per side?

This joint is to chicken joints as The Pit is to bbq joints... too expensive for what you get.

if enough people are willing to pay the price then it's not too expensive

see: The Pit

cheap people will bitch about it, not go, and nobody else will care

The Pit really isn't that expensive unless you're comparing it to the dollar menu at McDonalds.

I just don't like places that are alacarte style with their entree and sides.

She should have raised the prices of the entrees a buck or 2 and included a free side or something...

Heck, even the pit gives you 2 sides (good portions) and biscuits/hushpuppies with your meal.

Maybe you could go and just get the chicken but then scavenge all of the sides that you want from other tables as people are leaving.

I knew this comparison with The Pit would come up.

The Pit costs about twice as much as Cooper's, but here's the thing: Cooper's has better food. Yes, the 14.50 you'll pay at Beasley's for a quarter and two sides is double what you'd pay for a meal and two sides at Bojangle's, but the quality difference in the chicken is gigantic. I haven't had the sides yet, but early reviews and the fact that they're freshly made with local ingredients lead me to believe they're damn good.

Quality costs, and I'm willing to pay more for something that much better. Better barbecue is something The Pit never figured out, but Beasley's chicken is easily the best I've ever had.

is you crazy? i compare it to cooper's. seems expensive. and not as delicious. that is just my opinion though.

on the OTHER HAND ac's chicken is far superior to bojangles (IMO) and therefore worth the extra $$

plus, i'd have leftovers from a quarter chicken meal + 1 side because for me that is a lot of food for me.

i'm just saying.

yo people in the know (tommy wiseau) how are the sides? are they individual or more like poole's where you can share?

oh snap i didn't see vinylbandit said pretty much the same thing as me. i swear i didn't even get to his comment lol. i just saw the pit comparison and decided to respond.

Last time I went to Cooper's the bbq was more like pate and the collards had zero flavor. I was really disappointed Their hushpuppies were still good though.

i don't think it's overrated

i think it's great for what it is - the bbq place that you take snooty out-of-towners that might be turned off by a sticky table or the server's lazy eye at a real bbq place

and it's not hurting for business so it's not overpriced

Talked to some of the waitresses last night and they are psyched about how quick they can turn over tables.

Apparently the food's out by the time the drink orders are filled.

yes

I take offense to all this pretentious, expensive southern food and the way people are regarding these places as more representative of NC than, say, Wilber's in Goldsboro. 90% of the people who think that these gourmet $15 a plate places are better than Stephenson's or Wilber's or even Carolina BBQ are from Pittsburgh or New Jersey and think that natives actually do refer to this place as "Cackalacky".

Oh, or Parker's. Almost forgot about the racist place in Wilson. Good, but it feels like it's 1957 in there.

The prices for this place are pretty typical for other chicken n waffle places I've been to. Thelma's in Roanoke, VA has one waffle and 4 breast tenders for 8.99, and that place isn't exactly klassy.

I haven't been to Bojangles in over a year, but I remember a quarter white with one side, biscuit, and sweet tea being like $4.69 or something.

Then it's been more than a year.

Quarter white with one side is $5.59 plus tax. Extra side is roughly $1.49 plus tax, give or take a dime.
