^^apparently not for me.

^yeah I NEED white noise. I always have a fan running, which also blows air on me...which I love. Ironically I have a very hard time falling asleep if the TV is on. Unless I'm pass out drunk of course

meditation? Not to be ignorant, but exactly what do you "do" to meditate?

You could start here:

http://www.wildmind.org/blogs/on-practice/meditation-and-insomnia
http://www.reddit.com/r/Meditation/wiki/faq

It's also been shown in many studies to reduce anxiety and depression, sometimes significantly.

Progressive muscle relaxation is very similar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFwCKKa--18

I didn't try meditate last night. Tried 3 trazadones instead. Still didn't really work. Prob took me around 45 min to fall asleep, after reading in my room for 30 minutes. However these damn pills are making me feel drowsy as fuck this morning

Oh yea, have you tried to eat anything with the trazodone? I would eat something like a triscuit with a piece of cheese or something and 10 minutes later I'd be laying on my ass.

Food really helps with absorption with some people.

Oh yea, I just got a script for generic ambien since my insurance doesn't want to pay for lunesta. Fine by me, way lighter on my wallet. Now...hopefully it works.

So, do you guys take your sleeping pills on the weekend? I usually roll with the insomnia like it's normal hahaha

can't wait til jaZon is posting itt tonight fucked up as hell!
I'm sure you've heard, but of course ambien can make you hallucinate and/or feel extremely intoxicated if you fail to fall asleep. I always felt drowsiest about 45 minutes after taking it, but would get fucked up if I stayed up much more than an hour after ingestion.

you aren't a grapefruit juice drinker, are you, TKETeg? I just saw that it's on the no-no list for trazodone. just so you know.

Trazodone is usually given in a divided dose when it is prescribed for antidepressant use (anyway, at doses higher than standard sleep aid), because of the morning fogginess thing. Taking it during the day as well just made me feel sedated all the time.

all in all, 45 minutes to fall asleep sounds pretty decent, especially since you had the light on and were reading. what were you reading? nothing too interesting i hope

I may not even try it tonight - I have to work tomorrow

Also, I've been off the effexor for about a week now, after tapering down slowly, and I'm having wicked constant dizziness. Thankfully, that's it so far.

i was on prozac for a month as a trial - which seemed to help my moderate depression.

but i can never sleep anymore and i thought it was bc of the prozac so i quit taking it. dr wanted me back on it bc there was no improvement in my issues while i was off it, but the 2nd time i went back on it i had a lot of difficulty. i felt numb, i felt like a zombie, and i started having suicidal thoughts.

so, and since i dont like taking medicine in the first place, they've taken me off completely and now theyre having me come in every 2 weeks for counseling. If that doesn't help, they gave me the option between Welbutrin and Zoloft.

i do not recommend getting a sleeping aid - do not drink caffeine after 4pm, do not stare at your phone/ipad/computer/tv at least 1-2 hours before you hit the sack. try to go to bed at the same time every night, and get up the next day around the same time. if you do sleep in - try to only sleep in for an hour. if you sleep in longer, you will disrupt your bodies natural clock tied to sleep. and if you get up in the middle of the night, which i do every night between 2-3am, get up and walk around the apartment or read or something for 20 minutes, then try to go back to bed. if you just sit there and wait for sleep to come back, it wont. your body needs you to get up and do something so it can realize youre not in bed anymore and that youre restarting the sleeping process. a lot of times, the non sleeping hours will be come habit forming.

also, your bedroom should be the one place in your home you splurge on - its your sanctuary. make sure your mattress is comfy, that you like the sheets and the way it looks and that youre comfy. the no stress zone, if you will.

make sure you take it on an empty stomach...that definitely makes a difference

Also, if Ambien doesn't phase you when taken on an empty stomach, then that's pretty baller, yo, if that's any consolation.

If I drink a lot of alcohol no I don't take it. But I did this past wknd as my evenings were pretty low key and I only did moderate drinking during the day (pool and beach).

Nah I hate all things grapefruit, and had also read that. Thanks anyway.

Well wouldn't you know it, right there on the side of the bottle it says "take with food". After your comment I noticed that, and have been taking the pills with food. 30-45 min later I feel pretty groggy and fall asleep! Yay! Hopefully this will continue.

jaZon, my experiences with Ambien were pretty mixed. Some nights it would hit me like a ton of bricks but others I couldn't even tell that I had taken it. Either way I never did any sort of crazy shit in my sleep while on Ambien.

Jason, have you tried benzodiazapenes? if the ambien's not working, might be time to get some klonopin (or xanax or valium if your doctor is awesome, but starting up slow is prudent, i guess).

are you anxious when you're trying to fall asleep? or having obsessive thoughts of any kind? besides sheep counting haha. That hasn't been mentioned, but sometimes counting has been useful to me. definitely give up and read something boring for a few minutes (not in bed) if you get to 2000 though.

Only thing I've ever had like that was Ativan. Went to see a GP for breathing problems and he basically thought I was having a persistent week long panic attack That was years ago, though.

I took a few and they seemed to help a little, but that's the extent to my experience with benzo's. I quickly stopped once I started reading into the long term effects...and it seemed like every time they started to wear off the anxiety would get even worse, so I said fuck that.

Definitely anxious when I try to sleep. I'm anxious about all day these days. Work is boring and unrewarding so I spend the vast majority of the time bored and thinking about how shitty everything is and how I have absolutely zero control over it at the moment. Yea, I'm crazy.

Now I'm going to go off on a tangent. I love it when people say things like "if you don't like things, change them." Well no shit. If I could get the hell up and change what I don't like about my life I'd be doing it. There are some things that can't be changed and some things that can only be changed at certain times, ie. school, job hunts, etc. Blow me, bright side lookers.

Anyway, apparently I've been getting mad a lot lately The book is an option, but I feel like a retard when it comes to reading lately. I can't concentrate well enough to pay attention and I wind up reading the same page 3-4 times before I have the slightest idea what I just read. Yay depression.

I haven't had a klonopin prescription, but a friend of mine has one and I've taken them many a times. Calmed me a bit for times when shit in my life was really hitting the fan. It didn't have much of an effect on my sleeping habits though.

"I constantly avoid social interaction and refuse to do pretty much anything.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I really want to change my situation, but the problem is, if I don't get enough social interaction, then I become a socially inept freak and nobody wants to talk to me. And that makes me even more of a freak, and then people are even less likely to talk to me, and so on.

But yesterday I stumbled upon this website called "Omegle," which provides video-chat for free with total strangers. I'm a little nervous, but am going to give it a try. At least you can hang up at any moment. Here goes.

1. Call #1: Okay, it was some random piece of shit teenage prankster. He exchanged a couple words with me, but then gradually this look of horror appeared on his face and he leapt out of his chair and off-screen. So I hung up. I bet a lot of people use this shit just to make fun of strangers.

Still, it was worth doing. I think there are other sites where you can specifically connect with women. Women seem less likely to be bitches than men to be bastards (or maybe that's a total misjudgment.) Anyway, again, worth doing. I'm sure not everyone is a piece of shit.

2. Call #2: Fucking random middle aged man. He didn't say anything, but typed "Hey, you want to see me take a shower and get all wet and naked?" I said "Seriously, dude?" and he disconnected.

3. Call #3: random Indian teenager. As soon the chat opened, I heard laughter (though not from the guy on screen) and then they hung up.

4. Call #4: fattish chick with big boobs and lots of cleavage showing. She smiled, but hung up.

This doesn't seem like a very sophisticated crowd.

Finally done with the Lamictal titration kit. I'll start 200mg tomorrow. I'm already feeling a bit of noticeable energy. Not enough to make me want to get up and do things and take care of things as I should, but still. I still feel like whale shit on the bottom of the ocean depressed, but at least SOMETHING is happening. On top of that, she's throwing wellbutrin at me, so I may be running around in a crazy manic state before too long (god willing, lol)

I tear up over the most random things a bit less lately. So that's one main thing I need absolutely stop.

I'm writing this on ambien so who knows what the fuck it says. why she gave me 20 ambien when i'm not due back for 4 weeks confuses the shit out of me.

^ how do you mean?

Anyone have problems with Lamictal making you stupid as hell? Since I've bumped up to 200mg I can't focus, I'll zone out during conversations, have trouble reading, remembering the simplest things, etc.

This is especially problematic since I'm trying to go for a masters degree within the next year.

According to wikipedia (linked to a glaxosmithkline study), some people report concentration issues even at small doses. From the anecdotal evidence i've seen on other forums, many people claim that it passed within a month or two for them. Might be a good idea to review the list of side effects and keep an eye out for the more troubling ones, since you're already having issues.

I'd cut that shit out...Remeron (different medicine, admittedly) caused those symptoms very severely in me, and even after three years off it, they haven't yet faded. It sucks. Point is, if it's REALLY affecting your head, gtfo it.

But I'd advise you you not to quit Lamictal cold turkey. Withdrawal from Lamictal was the wickedest I've ever experienced (and that's including Paxil.)
