Protest Internet Censorship
submitted by qntmfred on Wednesday, January 18 at 10:38 AM
Today many websites and companies are protesting the recent proposed legislation (SOPA and PIPA) allegedly designed to combat online piracy. Many have pointed out that these laws would not only be ineffective, but would ultimately require many websites to monitor and censor their users, or risk being permanently shut down at the government's discretion. Furthermore, it continues a pattern of behavior by our government - our representatives - to maintain control over the internet as a whole for dubious purposes, and which has already been abused.
As a place that has always valued the importance of freedom of speech, and whose existence could be threatened if this legislation (or the inevitable similar but renamed and rebranded legislation) is enacted, TWW has joined this protest.

Introducing Site 3
submitted by qntmfred on Monday, August 22 at 5:12 PM
TWW has been around a long time. So has the software that it is built on. In one sense, the fact that tww continues to work so smoothly today is a testament to the software's resiliency. But on the other hand, tww does have its fair share of bugs and long-missing features. Plus, we do things a lot differently on the web today. We have better web development technologies, greater understanding of best practices, crisper designs and more sophisticated experiences.
Over a year ago, I started a new project to rebuild TWW from the ground up. That effort has come to be known as Site 3. Today, I am sharing Site 3 with all premium subscribers and one guest each. Over the next few months, I hope to get your feedback, suggestions and probably some bug reports too. Come check it out at http://site3.thewolfweb.com.
Oh, and to celebrate this first step toward the new tdub for a limited time I am offering a LIFETIME premium subscription option. Support the site and get premie while the getting is good.
Thanks, qntmfred

TWW Free Expression Tunnel Painting 2011
submitted by qntmfred on Wednesday, August 17 at 12:34 PM
It's time once again for TWW to welcome our Wolfpack brethren back to campus and invite them to join the oldest, most respected NC State online community on the planet.
We'll be painting the Free Expression Tunnel on Tuesday, August 23rd from 8-10pm and then hanging out at Ruckus afterwards. Everyone's invited so come on out to meet some folks and paint some tunnels. As usual, paint and supplies will be provided for free, but you're welcome to bring anything you think will help (rollers, brushes, spray paint, stencils, freshly-baked cookies, etc).

Having trouble logging in?
submitted by qntmfred on Monday, June 6 at 11:56 AM
I recently fixed a bug with the way passwords are validated when you log in. Because of this, some of you may find yourself unable to log in with the password you thought you had.
If this is you, you can have your password automatically emailed to yourself by submitting this form user_forgot.aspx
Of course, that will email your password to the email address you registered with. A lot of you no longer have access to your @ncsu.edu email address, so make sure you have a current email address on file by submitting this form user_email.aspx
If your password doesn't work and you don't have access to your registered email address, send me a message through the site contact form and I'll try to help you out site_contact.aspx
Sorry about the inconvenience - hopefully this is a non-issue for 99% of y'all
p.s. if you didn't read the bold part - read it now. update your email address or risk the consequences

The 10th Annual TWW Easter Egg Hunt!!!
submitted by qntmfred on Thursday, April 14 at 11:25 PM
It's time for the 10th Annual TWW Easter Egg Hunt! The contest will start on Tuesday April 19 at 5:00 PM and will end on Wednesday April 20 at 5:00 PM. The winner will receive a full year’s premium subscription!
Here’s how the contest works:
The egg engine loads eggs into the system and assigns each egg to a random user in the "Who's Online" list of users online. Once an egg is assigned, it will stay in the system until : 1) The user loads a page on TWW or 2) 20 minutes go by. If a user loads the page, the egg will appear somewhere on the page. It will only appear on the first page loaded, so if you miss it, too bad!
Do not keep reloading the page. You will have 20 minutes to find the egg once it is assigned to you. It will be more beneficial to slowly scan each page rather than quickly refreshing. There are multiple eggs in the system at once, and it is even possible to have all eggs in the system assigned to a single user at the same time. Not loading an egg will not prevent other eggs in the system from being assigned to you. The best way to increase your odds of winning is to stay on TWW all day!
Remember, no posting of pictures of eggs on the site to fool other users---anyone who does so before the completion of the contest will be suspended.

UPDATE: Congrats to 2011 Egg Hunt Champion puck_it. See you next year!
