Actually, derwin james and denzel ward are seen as the current favorites with leonard and chubb right behind. I think james and leonard should be at the top with chubb right behind them. 11/7/2018 7:11:50 PM |

Are you just going by this: http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/286521/midseason-rookie-rankings-baker-mayfield-gains-on-derwin-james ?
Leonard leads the NFL in tackles, is 2nd in forced fumbles and has 4 sacks. If he's still up there at the end of the year, it's his to lose unless Chubb ends up with like 20 sacks. 11/7/2018 11:38:45 PM |

Feels like the only thing working against Chubb is the whole, "he's benefiting from playing across from Von Miller", which is obviously very helpful but I don't think it's fair to downplay his success because of it.
It's like saying Leonard is getting more tackles because he's on the field more, which is entirely true but shouldn't downplay his year. Leonard has played 78 more snaps than Chubb this year, and that's in 1 less game as Leonard has played in 12(missed a game with injury) and Chubb has played in all 13.
He's averaging 64.5 snaps per game, where as Chubb is averaging 53.5, that's 10+ less plays a game. It's not surprising that Leonard has plenty of stats, the dude is on the field a ton.
So in 1 less game, Chubb has more sacks(+5), the same number of forced turnovers(2 for both), and 2 more TFL. The only thing Leonard is doing great in is total tackles, which goes back to being the best tackler on a bad D.
Chubb breaks the record and it should be his award. 12/10/2018 10:52:33 AM |

Don't compare sacks for 2 guys who play completely different positions. It's silly. May as well compare Denzel Ward's sack numbers as well.
At this point, I'd say Chubb is probably behind both Leonard and James (who I think has a clear lead right now) in the running for DROY. Obviously breaking the rookie sack record would help his cause but I don't think it would lock him into the award, those other guys have just been that good. Hell, James might already be the best safety in the NFL. 12/10/2018 11:58:17 AM |

^^the Colts D is 11th by DVOA. not sure that qualifies as "bad".
And he's leading the league by a double digit margin. The gap from him to 2nd is 17. To get a 17 tackles gap from 2nd, you have to go to 11th.
