I watched the episode last night and I'm still in shock. What the fuck... it's pretty sad that my next favorite character is Tyrian Lannister, and the author will probably kill him off too. This is like the Sopranos, except Tony dies in the first season. All I have to say is..... people gonna diiiiiiie. Dire wolves are gonna be piiissed.

As I've said before, I wouldn't wiki anything. I'd use http://towerofthehand.com/

Posts about the show can be adjusted in scope by # of episodes watched and the rest of the site (majority of it) can be adjusted by the which books have been read all to avoid spoilers. I'd keep it at 0 books read until the season is over at which point you could switch it to having the first book read to flesh out some of the story that they had to brush over if you don't want to just read the book.

last night while playing Call of Duty I pissed of a guy who was a 13th prestige (this icon):

he was on my team but i kept running behind him and yelling "fuck you lannister!" After I got him killed a couple times I called in my attack dogs and yelled "direwolves motherfuckers!"

I don't know if they got it.

I'm honestly surprised at the amount of people who have claimed they will not keep watching the show after last episode. I bet 80% of those people won't follow through with that claim but still. I knew a lot of people would be surprised/shocked, but didn't really expect that. I was completely shocked when I read the book, but never once even considered not reading the rest because of that.

if anything it makes me like the series more.

one of my favorite comics is the same way... no character is safe. makes it an interesting and more personal experience, IMHO

that's asinine. as much i hated seeing Eddard killed by that punk kid king i'm not gonna stop watching the rest of the season nor the seasons to come. i'm completely hooked and a big fan of the show now. it makes for good entertainment; not sure why people are so offended.

I don't get why that scene would make them stop watching, if anything it made me want to keep watching in hopes that I'll get to see that little brat get what's coming to him.

I was hoping Aryia wouldve made her way to Joffrey and stuck her sword into his gut. Or a raven would've come in carrying news of Jaimes capture.

I hope Stark's bimbo needle-less daughter guts him like a pig after she seduces him. Then stands above his corpse with a grim and stoic look on her face, as her Stark winter blood boils in the satisfaction of bringing justice to her house. Then her little sister comes in a moment later, with her own plans of vengeance, and smiles proudly at her older sister for taking her true form at long last. ~Fan Fiction~

it's not going to make me stop watching but it's definitely a bummer because he was easily my favorite character

Tyrion is pretty strong but I'm starting to like Jon a lot more. So both of them will be dead soon

i for one, while shocked about Ned's death, wasn't a huge fan of his. And that's why I really want to read the book. Yes, Ned was loyal and well-meaning but he was also a bit of a fool and quite ignorant. And this season never truely got to peal the layers back on his character more than enough to get a rouse of the crowd during his death. I'd like to think the shock was even greater from the readers during their first experience with the novel after getting to spend some 500 pages with the character and not a mere 9 episodes.

to me, Ned felt more like a vessel, used to wade the viewers into this world and show just how cutthroat (no pun intended) these political games among houses truely are, than a real fleshed out character like Tyrion or Jon Snow have become. And now that the viewers have their legs underneath them there really wasn't a need for said vessel any longer

Dude just called Ned Stark a vessel...

Send all units.

Seriously though, clearly the author was teaching the reader/audience a lesson late enough to keep them reading/watching, but not a moment too soon to make them shy away. Ned had become a Christ figure, and after his ruthless execution, the story has no clear path except for crazed unrelenting warfare. No character is safe, heros die early and often, and there is no telling where this story may lead. It's great.

"'Game of Thrones' Actor Sean Bean Stabbed Following Spat Over Playboy Model, Report Says

Published June 14, 2011 | NewsCore

British actor Sean Bean was stabbed in the arm following a spat over a Playboy model outside a bar in London.

The "Lord Of The Rings" and "Game of Thrones" star was apparently attacked outside the Hill Bar and Brasserie in Camden, northwest London late Sunday, British newspaper The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Witnesses said Bean, 52, suffered a cut arm and a bruised face but did not want to go to hospital. He instead walked back into the bar and ordered another drink.

A member of staff said, "Sean is a regular here and we've never had any problems before. He was with a very attractive woman and an incident occurred outside the bar."

They added, "He came in with a cut on his arm and a bruise on his eyebrow. We saw to his injuries with the first aid kit. He seemed OK and wanted to have another drink."

The row began when a passerby made some lewd comments about Summers, real name Nadia Foster, a 22-year-old topless model who appeared in Italian Playboy.

Witnesses said Bean followed the man and challenged him. Bean was then stabbed in the arm with what was believed to be broken glass, when he went outside for a cigarette later that night.

Police were called to the scene but neither they nor Bean have commented on the incident.

It is not known if Bean, who has been married four times, is dating Summers. The model -- who lives close to the bar -- told the newspaper she was not injured in the incident and that it was "a private matter.""

I just watched this episode.

Daaaaaaaang. Didn't see that coming.

I agree about the vessel though. Ned Stark was kinda the "gateway character" to introduce us to this whole world. I still REALLY want to see what happens with the Khaleesi though.

What an awesome series.

^^ i'm more intrigued by what will happen to the Khaleesi's baby since she is now going into labor following that nasty fall she had from being pushed down. and worst of all, going into the tent the witch is doing blood magic on the Khal and were all told emphatically, do not enter!

I was kinda hoping that this would be the point where the HBO writers take liberties with the story the way they did with the Sookie Stackhouse books and let Ned Stark live.

Goddamn you, Joffery.

But I guess that would fuck up the rest of the stories too much if that happened to where it isn't even based on ASOFAI.

^^for a series like this that doesn't work well. At least not in my opinion. It works for something like True Blood (well I don't like the series but it is successful) or Dexter (which I enjoy both the books and the show separately) which seem almost serial. For this, if you are going to deviate and let Ned live, there isn't really a point in making the series imo. Might as well make something similar. That is *the* catalyst that pushes the rest of the story forward almost (from many different angles).

And ^ I agree, but it's not like the readers didn't get to experience the story first hand already as well

I like having a hero, someone to root for. Someone to take sides with and to identify with.

What would the show be if Robb, Tyrion, and Jon all died next episode? I don't want to become emotionally invested in a new character ever few episodes. It might be cool & shocking the first time, but I hope it doesn't become a pattern in the series

^^ I definitely understand the concern but my only response without spoilers is that I think you'll keep enjoying the series a lot. The points you make are valid and GRRM is a great, captivating writer and knows this as well. He has a great balance of not haloing every major character in the book but also not mindlessly killing off every person he can just for fun. Any good story needs characters you are invested in to be around for awhile and there are still plenty of those.
