^ Thank you, Senor Jinx.

As for Weight, he gives us a terrific passer for the balance of the season, and another all-star caliber player for right around $2 million. On top of that, he will spread some of the ice time at the extra forward spot, which will give people like Kevyn Adams a chance to focus on using their energy reserves on the PK and shutdown situations.

Basically, it's high-quality depth for a cheap price. Weight is not worth his full contract price, but players don't get paid in the playoffs and he'll be an asset there as well for his veteran experience.

There might be a push to keep him next season, but unless his price drops drastically I doubt it. Our team is generally pretty young, and the few older guys we have are the team leaders in more ways than one (Brindy's racking up points, Glen Wesley is as solid defensively as ever). There's not a lot of reasons to permanently add another older guy who doesn't have a spot in the org. structure already.

"Hey what's that over there" (qickly passes stick off to Scott Mellanby who then hands it to a trainer who runs down the tunnel with it)

"Yeah that was an awesome game. Tied the all-time record for wins in a month with 13. I still feel like this team isn't getting any respect. But hopefully they will make the Finals this year and win the whole damn thing!"

Do yourself a favor and listen to NHL Live sometime in the near future for a dose of respect for the Canes. There were about 3-4 callers from NC in a row this morning who talked about the issue of people complaining that the team gets no respect. Basically, the first problem is the local news media - a 30 second report on the late night news does nothing for the team. Don't even get me started on News 14 Carolina's so-called "sports night" - horrible, just horrible. The second problem is that the team hasn't proven that they can sustain their success from season to season, and that they haven't won the Stanley Cup. If, god forbid, the Canes start off sluggish next season, we'll see the same dropoff of "fans" that has happened in the past, and there goes any ounce of respect that has been earned this season.

I'm sick and tired of the bitching and moaning about "wahhhhh wahhhh the Canes get no respect!" Come to the games (and learn a bit of the rules and strategy so you aren't that guy/girl screaming "SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT"), fill up the arena, cheer loud and support the team - not just this season, but in the future, too.

^I don't think they do. Your best bet would be to contact Sirius and see if they save the broadcasts.

^^Babchuk has an itchy trigger finger, so there isn't enough time to yell "SHOOOOOOOOOOT"...although I do agree, he can shoot the puck anytime he wants (although I'd be scared shitless sitting behind that glass behind the goal when he misses )

Lindy Ruff was playin' hardball last night:

Quote :
"Kovalchuk must have felt even worse. The NHL's top goal scorer failed to hit the net for the fifth game in a row, watched Pominville score the tie-breaking goal, and he was penalized for an illegal stick with just under 5 minutes remaining, wiping out a potential Atlanta power play.

"We benched him and his stick at the same time," Ruff said. "Everybody on our bench saw it. You can't hide that."

Once Kovalchuk got out of the penalty box, he spent the rest of the game on the bench. Clearly, coach Bob Hartley was disgusted with his young star.

"It's a matter of showing respect to the entire team, the organization and the fans," Hartley said. "I hope he'll learn from this.""

by the time I tuned in, Lavi was on the tail end of talking about Weight (basically said that they'd figure out where he fits and take it from there, at least that's all I heard). Went on to talk about how Brindy is basically everywhere on this team when they need him (both on and off the ice) and should be an MVP candidate. Discussed how Staal has matured quickly and how the year in the AHL helped him gain confidence, and how powerful and effective Cole is and how he's helped Staal along this season. Started to talk about Cam, then a co-worker came over and started to chat about last night's b-ball game, so that's all I heard in a nutshell

Wesley got his bell rung but I can't imagine him not being in the lineup after 2 days rest, look for Ward to be back sometime in the next couple days, Cullen should be out for about another week according to JR, the Jaw is wired shut but no surgery was required

^^ He's a hockey player. He's not going to sit out if he's good to go, especially with a jaw injury. As soon as it's healed enough that he can take a hit without it getting worse, he'll be out there. He's been skating for a few days already. Plus, since Cullen can slot in on D, if the back line isn't healthy enough to roll seven by the time he's ready to go, he'll play back there.

You wanna talk about playoff goaltending, we'll talk about Roy.

Hasek has one Cup. He won it when he was backstopping the best team in the league. He carried his team through the playoffs a single time, and he couldn't even seal the deal then (if you mention a fucking harmless skate blade, I'll discount everything you ever say about hockey).

Roy has four Cups and three Conn Smythes. Playoff Roy was a whole level above regular season Roy. Playoff Hasek is just a great goalie stepping up his game at the same time as everyone else.

^^ Im not saying hes the best of all time.

I dont see how you can slight him for not having a cup with the sabres, when he made his run into the finals with the sabres, he did more then just carry the team.

TSN.ca has posted their NHL on TSN All-Star voting ballots - not too much love for the Canes, but Staal and Cole are there (center and right wing, respectively), so start your voting!

and no, it means nothing in the long run, but at least vote (it's been a bit buggy, so it may take a couple of tries)

(damn, almost 20,000 views for this thread...shot up like hell once they got to the top of the NHL )

I don't quite understand what you're saying. As I said, Hasek loaded the Sabres on to his back and carried them to the finals in a single year, but even then he couldn't finish the job. Roy took the '86 Habs on his back as a rookie, then bucked up again and carried the '93 Habs as well. When Hasek needed to make every save count, he let his team down. When Roy was confronted with the same situation, forced to allow not a single goal across six periods in '96, he delivered, 63/63.

As I said before, Patrick Roy is THE money goalie. Hasek is a just a dude who is really good and plays slightly better when the playoffs roll around.
