The last word from Joss Whedon is that DVD sales will be key to whether this story gets continued in any form. There were rumors that sci-fi or one of the premium channels had optioned rights for a tv movie sequel but they've been denied by the Whedon camp.

I think it could thrive on scifi, and really turn it into a powerhour channel
Battlestar + Firefly? They'd have my vote for sure

well i dont know about a power channel (for some reason sci fi will always be the way it is) but it certainly would be a good GREAT replacement for Farscape

and to be perfectly honest, i love the scifi channel because it doesnt have bullshit crap tv series like most other channels do

the show should be easier and cheaper to produce with a smaller cast. 6 instead of nine. thats a tremendous cost reduction

100% agreed

the show's cast is as close to perfect as you can get, IMO

each character compliments or carries one of the other characters in the show and balances it well

Mal / Zoe - War buddies - very dedicated friendship
Wash / Zoe - Married Couple - very involved love for each other
Mal / Inara - Opposites attract - Love/Hate each other all the time but could never be without each other
River / Simon - Very strong, deep rooted sibling relationship since childhood (Big brother cares for / protects little sister)
Kaylee / Simon - Very innocent new shy-flirty-love relationship back and forth between them
Jayne / Simon - Very uneasy tension between the two based off the behavior of River and their status with "The Alliance"
Shepherd Book / Mal - Conscious / Religious reminder for Mal and a father figure to the group as well as Mal

in my opinion this show does this better than any I have seen in a long time

Ron glass had to go because he was basically dying at the time. He's better now, but he was barely even able to be in the movie at all.

As far as wash, wash was great but if you could do away with any of the characters, he would be it. I was sad to see him go, but if it makes the series more feasable... then I'm for it.

I have seen mreo than one theory that we will see either a move or a miniseries or both to fiull in fomr the end of the series to the start of serinity.

Becouse we all know there is a HUGE fing gap there.

In reality, the show is fundamentally 4 characters: Mal, River, Simon, Zoe, and zoe is stretching it. Everyone else is easily expendable.

Ordered list:
1. mal
2. river
3. simon
4. zoe
5. inara
6. Jayne (kaylee can go here, but she is 1/10th as funny as jayne)
7. Kaylee
8. wash
9. book

Kill them off starting from the bottom

well...if firefly would ever comeback, it could only happen if the DVD sales were thru the roof, or if serenity did much better

and i dont see either happening. so i guess its gone.

The only reason I say Book is more important to the story than everyone is giving him credit is that his back story is the least known. There is definantly room to expand his character.....

**Spoiler**

well maybe not now since he's dead. I'd still like to know what his deal was though.

**Spoiler**

I think the surplus of characters and how well they all balance is what made firefly different from other shows out there.

first season is so freaking cheap man. I got mine for 15 bucks on amazon as a gold box item way back before the movie hype started up again.

28 bucks on amazon for firefly complete series.

16.98 for pre-order of serenity. to be released december 20th

"Exclusive: A Serenity Sequel?
This one's for the Browncoats.
by IGN FilmForce

December 1, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has heard that, although it was very disappointed in the poor box office showing for Serenity, Universal may not have retired Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his renegade crew just yet.

Sources said that, given the strong sales of the TV series Firefly on DVD, Universal is planning a sequel film to Serenity that will be produced with and to broadcast premiere on the Sci Fi Channel, which is part of the NBC Universal family.

The project is said to be a lower budget undertaking streamlined for the small-screen.

IGN FilmForce checked with Joss Whedon's camp who denied the claim; Universal did not comment.

Time will tell if this rumor pans out."

Sounds like $80 million was NOT the cutoff.

Fox cancels tons of unique shows, even if they're good. If there's not an instant fanbase, they won't tolerate letting anything grow for a season or two. It really would have done much better on the WB because they aren't looking for the kinds of numbers Fox is.

or even if fox had let the
1) run the real pilot first
2) run the episodes in order
3) keep the same timeslot

It is interesting to look at the dvd box/book and see that there were episodes that were never even aired between episodes that were aired. I hate this show didn't make it because it is a great quality show.
