Does your car have PASM? If not, how do you like the ride? I found the 19s way too harsh for my preference.

No PASM. My commute is all smooth country roads, so it's not really fair to say. I have no issues with them thus far. Cool thing is that the rears saved 2 lbs a corner; I'd imagine the fronts shaved a lb or so


I do know that my 18"s were already damn terrible through some TN/KY road construction (I-75N) a few weeks back. It pretty much sealed the deal on my thoughts about Bilstein B4 vs B6 in the future: B4 all the way!

When I was test driving Caymans I really didn't like the ride of the ones equipped with 19s. Though I suppose tires can have a lot to do with that as well. The roads around Raleigh are f'ing horrible, crumbling before our eyes these days. I can't even drive through downtown anymore without risking my car's alignment (has been off twice this year). Though I didn't do myself any favors by installing some solid metal mounts at various points in my suspension, but that's besides the point LOL.

Yeah we caught'em! I think. If that photo was taken in Blue group, Hiro and I were more or less faster than everyone. We moved up to White the second day though, and those drivers are faster. (both groups had 1-2 silver 911s).

The Durango has proven fairly capable so far on backwoods logging roads, and pulling a high centered Optima out of a ditch.

Well I was just quoted an astronomical price for replacing the soft top on my car. I get that prices are going to increase over the course of 9 years, but either the car has gotten significantly more difficult to replace the top on since the last time I was quoted or something has gone fucking wonky as hell.

I'm playing in a relatively dead scene, but the 320k+ mile 1990 Honda Wagon is getting a rebuild... Trying to find a machine shop that I can trust is proving a bit more challenging than I thought.

T-Hoff doesn't appear to have the greatest of reviews as of lately, though I know they were the go-to shop 10+ years ago...

Boyettes won't touch imports...

A couple other more local shops haven't called me back after I left messages...

I'm debating just taking it to NAPA Walker off Six-Forks and seeing if they'll rebuild the head and piston match the bores (0.050+ oversized)

Asking price was lower and included all the aftermarket add-ons I wanted, so overall ended up being a way better deal. Just as clean as the one you looked at for me earlier. I really enjoy the color, although I don't care for black vehicles...

And yeah, she's massive. Barely fits in the garage

Been a while since my teaser pics from late last year (see previous page)

car is a shell now, mini-tubs nearly done, 285's going in back. Swapped to a rear sump oil pan on the 2J to fit the K-member, which is part of an aftermarket coilover front suspension. After the tubs are finished I'll be surgically cutting the transmission tunnel and part of the firewall; there's still about 1.5" needed to go rearward to clear the oil pan even with the head against the firewall.

I think so too - 17's all around, 9.5" rear and 8" front. They are Trans Am Race Engineering "Super-Lites". Tires are Nitto 555 G2's in 285/40 rear and 245/45 up front. Hopefully have some custom centers machined as the TARE ones are literally chromed plastic with an adhesive-backed decal (not very flattering).

Over the weekend I installed a new air oil separator and accessory drive belt. Also cleaned up all the axle boot grease that flung out all over the place (wheels, suspension parts, etc). Turns out that the OEM grease liquefies from getting hot on track and leaks out past the boot clamps. How nice. I was going to repack the boots with Redline high temp grease, but 3/4 boots have dry rot cracks. So time to get boots replaced anyway.

Also discovered a torn bushing on the front suspension rollbar end link, yay. 13 year old car...

I've got a TR6060 converted to T56 Magnum (basically just housing swaps and a 1350 slip yoke output). Goal is 600 to start, and I should be good with that and a double disc clutch.

Replace starter on the Camry (194000). Car starts out fine but if I have to make a stop somewhere and restart the car it wont start. It was an easy fix but I feel proud of myself.

Installed deep sump oil pan on Cayman, as well as a new AOS. Should help on track durability with the use of stickier rubber (see below).

New front swap bar end links on Cayman (one bushing was torn). New exhaust manifolds waiting to be installed (error with one part).

New corner lights and bumper lights (full amber, not amber/clear) on GSR.

Had new Nitto NT05s mounted on an extra set of wheels for Cayman; they're ready for track duty. Until this point I've been using street heat cycled 300TW tires. Really excited to see how grippy fresh not heat cycled 200TW tires affect performance

Crunk the SuperDodge up and drove it to my part-time job. Debating on pulling the ridiculous 3rd gen door mirrors that Jeepman put on cuz they flop too much and the door skin is cracking where the ghetto brackets are welded. Or at least moving the goddamn things down and refabbing decent mounts.

The doors do need some serious work; late ‘80s Dodge sheet metal is just plain shitty and flimsy. I’d like to put a couple of reinforcement ribs in each door and use a good seam sealer/adhesive to tie things together better. And then maybe a layer of dynamat on the inside of the outer skin.

I wish I still had access to a paint booth or room so I could work on jambs and other odds and ends.

Up next is a dash/gauge project. I’d really like a damn tach so I’m gonna get one. And a new boost gauge and pyrometer. And tranny temp and coolant temp and oil pressure blah blah blah

I changed the oil.
I discovered that with the combo of lift and tires, I no longer have to jack it up.
I fit with the creeper enough to get myself and the pan underneath.

washed Insight, FR-S, and BMW motorcycle.

Removed and disassembled the instrument cluster on the motorcycle, and replaced the innards with an aftermarket harness with LED lights. My speedo light has been inop for a long time, so it was mostly to fix that...but as a bonus, everything is a little brighter now, and should work forever.

also, I've been turning off the TC/stability control and abusing the tires pretty much every time I drive the FR-S. It has 5-year old, 300 TW Yokohamas on it, and I'm, uhhh, hastening the day where I'll have no choice but to shitcan them and mount some R-compounds (I'm thinking NT-01s).

I wish there was a setting on the electronic nannies similar to the "competition mode" on my old Corvette. There's normal, which is draconian and completely useless for anything besides runnings errands around town...and then there's a mode where it says "TC off" and "VSC Sport". I'm not sure it even totally disables TC, though. In any case, it reins everything in pretty hard at what I feel like is still a very low threshold. Like, it's very tough to get the car to rotate in a corner on the track without triggering intervention from it.

...and then there's everything totally disabled. It seems pretty easily controllable (there's a neighborhood under construction near my house--completed roads, and nothing else...I've been playing around with the car over there), but I'd really like to keep at least the stability on during track days, as an insurance policy. On the Corvette's competition mode, it disabled TC totally, and relaxed stability control enough that you could rotate the car properly without it spoiling everything.

^^Have you tried the "pedal dance"? If not google it on the FRS/BRZ web forums. It will completely disable everything...including ABS.

Flushed brake fluid and swapped on Pagid track pads. Tech inspection and suspension alignment tomorrow.

Have not done pedal dance. Holding down button for 5-sec disables TC and stability completely. I just wish you could keep ABS, keep stability but relaxed enough to not be a hindrance, and kill TC.

That’s the way the z06 was and what is intended in this car’s VSC sport mode. It just doesn’t relax VSC enough.

TKE-Teg and I at RRR this past weekend. The worker in the corner station between Turn 8 and Turn 9 got a kick out of guy in the green Civic hatch hunting down all the Porsches. He gave me a few pictures he took from his cell phone. This was during the last session on Sunday; it felt like the two of us had the entire track to ourselves. Was so much fun!

DB2 GS-Rs are more rare that DC2 Type Rs. And were only sold in N America for two years (not sold anywhere else). They have outstanding build quality and are a great platform for racing. They rarely come up for sale. Even in my car's poor exterior state and "good" mechanical condition, people still want these. Amazingly, I get compliments several times a month from people when driving around in it. More than when driving the Cayman.

Gotten over 20 messages on FB marketplace about it. I had an offer from CA (but price was too low because he would have to ship it), another from Rhode Island, and one from Georgia. Had a guy coming to look yesterday from Hickory, but ended up selling it Saturday to someone from Clayton for $2700.

Bittersweet about parting with the car, but nothing lasts forever and I'm pretty glad the selling process was so easy!

It'll be missed. I can't imagine how epic that GSR would have been on the track. It sits so much lower than my EG. It felt like it had a wider track and longer wheelbase as a result. I bet it was a riot at the track back in its day. I'll miss that GSR too. I'm glad you got every penny that you did for it. Looks like its going to a fantastic home.
