A lot of people are throwing around the idea of the ACC taking it easy Champ, and sitting this next one out... you know, stop playing for a while.

Ever since the ACC merged into the "super conference" the football we've witnessed has been absolutely abysmal.

Perennial contenders like FSU and Miami have hit rock bottom.

Schools that were emerging from being perennial basement dwellers like NC State and Maryland have become laughable again.

We really ruined round robin basketball format for this garbage?

I think the ACC should seriously consider suspending the football programs for one year until they can put a better product on the field. This garbage is less watchable than the MAC, Big East, or other subprime conferences.

I still dont understand it... or are you using "Champ" like "boss", or "dude", or do you mean an actual Champion

I read somewhere that the Big East is 11-3 in the last 14 games versus the ACC. That's disrespect for those two conferences to be mentioned in the same breath.

It's funny how this thread was created on the same day as a televised NCSU game, that probably everyone on this board watched, displayed a graphic with a blurb about how the ACC had more 1st round draft picks than any other conference.

yeah, i'm sure the majority on here watched it on tv and saw the blurb instead of watching it at the game

If the ACC gets any worse at football, people might mistake them for the Big 10 or the Big East.

Yes, b/c if NCSU took a year off of playing football from every season we had a bad team we would of stopped playing football in 2003!

^ I assume he meant this year... and once again, bowl games aren't indicative of how good conferences are... teams can always step up and win a one time game with a month to prepare. But that doesn't take into account the weekly wear and tear of playing in a tough conference all year. If anything I would say that bowl games show who the best X's and O's coaches are.

State has been pretty bad at football throughout it's history, so by that logic we would have stopped playing shortly after we started playing.

By that logic, Oklahoma's loss sealed the Big XII as a joke. Michigan and Wisconsin's losses secured the Big Eleven as a joke. USC, Cal, Arizona State, and UCLA sealed the Pac 10 as a joke. WV, South Florida, Rutgers, Louisville, and Cincy sealed the Big East as a joke. Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and LSU have sealed the SEC as a joke. Hell, Notre Dame has sealed the Independents as a joke!

Suspend all major conferences for a year! Hawaii for national champion!!!

well wouldn't BC's loss to FSU sort of be a zero sum type thing? Although it would be fun if you exchanged LSU and Florida for Va Tech and BC, LSU and Florida would cruise to JAX

We could make millions of dollars but yeah, let's suspend the season.

I think it's funny how you guys think the ACC is somehow better than the Big 10. They might be having a down year, but c'mon, most those teams would ROLL on the ACC squads.

rallydurham - That might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read in here. Yes why doesn't the ACC just throw away millions of dollars that go to all schools including NC State because football is down.....get me some of what your smoking boy !! ha ha

Compare ACC offenseive/defensive stats to the rest of college football and you'll see what he means.

remember, when ACC teams beat each other, it's because they suck....but when SEC teams beat each other, it's because they're strong top to bottom

seriously, LSU is lucky as shit not to be a 3 or 4 loss team right now

Just look at the stats. That logic you are trying to use doesn't make sense for either side.

You can't say "conference A beats up on each other and conference B beats up on each other, therefore they are equal strength" just like you can't say "conference A beats up on each other and conference B beats up on each other, therefore they aren't equal strength"

It's completely conceivable that the SEC in sum is on an entirely different level AND they beat up on each other.

When better teams play each other, one of them has to lose.

Here, I'll just pick a few stats at random that support SEC being CLEARLY better than the ACC. Feel free to defend against my argument with statements of your own.

Offensive stats, pts per game
http://cfbstats.com/2007/leader/national/team/offense/split01/category09/sort01.html
SEC top 3 at 8,10,11
ACC top 3 at 22,48,53

Well...maybe the SEC is just more offensive happy you ask...ok, lets see
Scoring defense
http://cfbstats.com/2007/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category09/sort01.html
SEC top 3 at 5,10,26
ACC top 3 at 4,9,15

So, slight edge to the ACC just in looking at top 3, but does it mean that ACC defense is clearly that much better, or that ACC offenses are just so inept? How can the SEC still have reasonable numbers for their top 3 AND have great offensive numbers too?

Total offense
http://cfbstats.com/2007/leader/national/team/offense/split01/category10/sort01.html
SEC top 3 at 12, 20, 22
ACC top 3 at 21,34,72

Total defense
http://cfbstats.com/2007/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category10/sort01.html
SEC top 3 at 2,8,22
ACC top 3 at 5,11,16
Again, a wash on defense.

We can do this any way you like. Someone else compare to the Big 10. And the PAC 10 would be interesting also.

You'll find that it is safe to say the ACC is in quite the lull compared to the other BCS conference.

To be fair, the ACC is a better conference this year than it was last year. Last year was just atrocious from top to bottom. Wake actually saved face by playing pretty well, although in a losing effort, in the Orange Bowl. That loss moved the ACC to 1-8 alltime in BCS bowls. To compare the WAC is 1-0 and the MWC is 1-0 .

I think the big thing that the ACC is missing is QBs. There literally isn't a QB worth a damn in the conference outside of Ryan. It's horrible. Weatherford is finally showing some signs but he is so inconsistent. If you can't recruit a QB who can throw then at least get one who can run around a little bit like Sewell. I'm sick of seeing guys who can't move and can't throw in this conference...

To build an image of having a good football conference you need to beat OOC opponents. This year the ACC has done a better job of it compared with past years with Maryland beating Rutgers and UVa beating CT but you can't have your best team get blown out by 40 on the road in your conferences only real highlight OOC game of the year.

Flordia State beat Alabama (who just gave LSU about all they could handle)
Maryland lost to W. Virginia but knocked off Rutgers
Miami (who just lost to us) also got beat badly by Oklahoma but knocked off Texas A&M
Carolina only lost by 6 to South Carolina
Virgina gave the Big East leader UConn its only lost
Yes, LSU destoryed a very unreliable, undisciplined, overrated VT
Wake lost by 3 to Nebraska

So, I really don't see how the ACC is so much worse than everyone else they should cancle their season when these middle of the road ACC teams are beating and playing close tight games against these teams from other conferences

I said it is a better conference than last year.. and no one REALLY thinks the ACC should cancel their season. Christ, it's hyperbole. The issue at hand is why is the conference still so mediocre after proclaiming itself the next superpower and on par with the SEC. Really, the two conferences haven't been this far apart in talent since I started school in '99 as they are today.

And that unreliable, undisciplined and overrated VT team is this conferences only chance at getting that ugly money off of it's back with regards to the BCS bowl. No one else in the conference would stand a chance against Oklahoma, Oregon, Ohio State, WVU or LSU (we already know that one!)

Maybe we'll get lucky and play Hawaii in the Orangel Bowl to finally get a W..
