i wonder if losing jj next year will be a good thing.

then sid can't sit back and expect him to win games for us. then sid will actually have to coach again.

^^ Stupid.

I love people who think NCSU basketball is a great coaching job, when in reality at times it is one of the worst in the country. The good coaches know that.

Then why would Barnes, Lavin, Belein, Calipari consider the job?

NCSU most certainly is a big time job. Look at our facilites, history, and conference. Rank the ACC jobs and tell me which school is a better job other than Duke and UNC.

^The main reason coaches don't want to take this job: Sendek, Herb

Quote :
"the "oh we've got so much talent" doesn't hold that much water. If we do, where is it?"

This team has a top 10 NBA draft pick (Hickson) and 2 other possible draft picks (Fells/Grant). 3 NBA players. Herb coached what 4 NBA players total? Wilkins, Powell, Simmons, and Hodge. And those are 3 marginal players that can barely cut it in the league.

To say that this team doesn't have talent is very absurd. I am not going to take the time to look it up, but I would venture to say this team by recruiting ranks is the best NCSU has had since 1991.

and now i disagree with him. ha, that was quick.

yeah we have talent but we have no guards. hard to win without guards.

but it's not hard to NOT GET BLOWN OUT in every big game we have with the talent we have. so sidney doesn't get a free pass or anything.

You mean why did they use the job to get themselves paid?

You are in the shadows of Duke and UNC, have a fan base with unrealistic expectation, and this great history you refer to is starting to be less and less relevant. NO player recruited at this point was a live in 83'. And facilities don't matter nearly as much as in football, so all you got is conference which isn't special to NCSU, and is also on the decline. What are you going to do, call a recruit and be like "hey switch to ESPN classic QUICK!"

I know this opinion will get shit on, but at the moment NCSU is not a great coaching job, if it was we wouldn't have Lowe. It is far from it and I bet if you asked coaches they would say it is one of the worse situations in coaching right now.

i'm guessing the "credibility watch" ends when Lowe learns that college kids need to be coached into being hard workers, and need to be made smarter by their college coaches...

too long in the NBA i suppose... shame we couldn't have picked up Lowe 5 years from now after he'd had another college head coaching gig under his belt

We are a terrible team. We have good players, but are a really bad team.

Hickson: Really good inside player. Maybe a first round pick this year, probably a lottery pick after his sophomore or junior year. Either way, he's one of the top post players in the ACC.

Fells: High potential...sometimes he shows it. Above average three point shooter, long, and very athletic.

Grant: Above average SF/SG in the ACC. Physical and athletic. Good rebounder. Actually shooting well from 3-point range this year. Good penetrator and great on the break.

McCauley: High basketball IQ. Great passer for a big man. Great post moves, just wish he had the athletic ability to match. Extremely hard worker. Showed he could be one of the top big men in the ACC last year...has yet to match that output this year.

Costner: Great talent...fucking lazy. All that needs to be said about his play. Showed that he could be one of the best players in the ACC during the tourney last year...but has laid a fucking egg this year.

Horner: People who are saying he sucks forgot about last year. He was HUGE for us last year as a 6th man and occasional starter for our extremely thin team. Another one of our players who showed a lot last year only to digress this year.

Tracy Smith: Is showing a lot right now...showed a lot in the Clemson game at Littlejohn. Why the fuck hasn't he been playing more??

Gonzalez and Johnson: Gonzalez is a serviceable PG. With the rest of the talent on this team, we shouldn't need an All-ACC point guard to be comfortably sitting on the inside of the NCAA tourney bubble. Johnson sucks, but he's alright at giving Javi a few breaks during the game.

There is more than enough talent to be in the top 4/5 of the ACC right now. We should be switching places with Wake Forest right now....they have HORRIBLE talent. When you have the talent that we have and have the results that we have...there is one answer and that is coaching. We are in the bottom 3 of the ACC right now and that is inexecusable.

why did we continually go inside to Hickson, forcing it every posession? everybody and his fucking brother new we were going to him. Very poor coaching IMO

and wtf was up with the lineups at certain points during the game? fergie? really? that fuck hasnt played for entire games, like 3-4 games straight, and he gets PT against UNC? correct me if i'm wrong but wasnt fergie, tracy, and johnson all on the court at the same time, all the while UNC had their starting lineup in the game

^bingo. that's what i said earlier. in the first half hickson wasn't our entire offense, he didn't touch it every time down the court. but in the second half, we forced it everytime...leading to forced shots or turnover after turnover. hickson was getting pwnt by hansbrough all night long, yet lowe kept wanting him to save our entire team. and then when he couldn't, he completely yanks him from the game and keeps one of our best (probably our best) players on the bench for ten minutes straight.

i think that's what this season has boiled down to....sidney's terrible mismanagement of a potential superstar.

that explains our terrible offense this year which is force fed through hickson and stalls 90 percent of the time. that explains our screwed up chemistry (and i think our lack of heart and hustle which explains bad defense, lack of rebounding, etc) since the players recognized from the get go that you don't rewrite your entire offense for an unproven freshman. now that doesn't excuse the rest of the players for big being babies b/c they lost some PT, but it's up to sid to get his players to buy into that. and he obviously failed.

all this may be a bit of a stretch but i just don't see any other explanation for why every returning player we have (except for grant and maaaybe fells) has digressed since last year.

so what's the solution to all of this? hickson going pro and hoping that sidney has learned from his mistakes. if hickson stays i just can't see the chemistry on this team improving. and it's really unfortunate since this is no fault of hickson's at all.

so hickson was pulled at the 15:30 mark in the second half, and didn't come back in until ~4 minutes left. He did fine scoring against hansbrough, but he didn't do shit to block that guy out for rebounds.

watching that game, i thought we just flat out didn't have the talent to compete. our guys got winded in the second, and carolina just hit incredible shots. Ellington made some simply amazing shots. that guy is a stud.

i'd like to know how hickson was the sole focus of our offense in the second half when he was riding the pine for more than 10 minutes.

when he did play in the second half he was our sole focus. sid put way too much on his shoulders. having to defend hansbrough and be the entire offense. that's a lot to ask of a freshman.

then it was like sid thought omg he's not carrying this team like i tell him to so i'm gonna yank him and not play him anymore!!!

#1 problem (among many) with this team right now IMO: stop playing the fucking scrubs so much.

Starting lineup and minutes:
33 Javi
35 Fells
35 Grant
31 McCauley
31 Hickson

Bench:
13 Smith
5 Costner (Sub for McCauley/Hickson)
12 Johnson (Need to sub for Javi and Fells, could play Fergie but rather have Johnson in)
5 Horner (Sub for Grant, NOT Fells...way too fucking slow to guard SGs)

For comparison check out the minutes in the unc game:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=280510152

26 minutes for Hickson, 20 minutes for shitty Costner (almost as much as McCauley with only 21 minutes), 11 Fergie minutes, 8 horner minutes...etc.

Way too much time with the shitty players and not enough for the starters. Yeah, I know they get tired....but at least they will get in shape and we could win a few games.

Next time watch the game closely in terms of the substitutions and see when the opponent goes on it's run. It's not against our A team. It's when we squad substitute the shit team in.

“It’s unfortunate and it’s tough. I’m still kind of confused at what happened. It’s going to be a tough one to swallow.”"

looks at the minutes for UNCs starters vs ours. 4 out of 5 have 30+ minutes, two played 37+ minutes. Versus us, with two starters barely clearing 30 minutes. why was fergie out there for 11 minutes? i can understand some/most of costners minutes, hes obviously has the talent and he has to come back at some point........doesn't he? i assume hickson doesn't have the conditioning yet to play as many minutes as hansblow

Ferguson shouldnt be getting as many mins as he was, maybe, but it seems every game when McCauley hits the bench and Costner comes in the other team goes on a run. At least Ferg and Smith play hard. Ferg does play defense and Smith is obviously better than Costner IMHO.

Why did Costner start the second half and Lowe leave him in until the game was out of reach? We are so much better w/o Costner, any person with a lick of common sense should be able to see that. WTF is Lowe seeing in Costner? As soon as McCauley came back in we played much better. Fuck Costner and Lowe for continuing to let him lose the games for us.

Ahaha simonn will come in here and defend Costner and tell us how we are no better with Ben in now. What a joke Costner has become. I blame him for the bad play of the team more than Sid. And Smith should be playing. Have we not considered a big lineup with Costner, JJ, and Ben in at the same time and sub Smith in? I honestly believe Tracy could be All-ACC in two years.

Here's a way to keep from hearing Costner crying...

Kick him off the fucking team. He is a hindrance to the team right now. I would put him in for five minutes every game in the first half. If he sucks...then bench him for the rest of the game (unless we are blowing someone out...which will never happen).

21 minutes - 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 2 fouls, 2 turnovers.

2-4 from the field. 1-3 from the stripe. all while getting owned by hansbrough.

ben mccauley for president.

McCauley wasnt getting owned by Hansbrough at the beginning of the game. Costner came in and Hansbrough magically came alive. Hansbrough scored on McCauley, but McCauley was playing about as good of defense as you could ask w/o fouling. Its hard for Costner to get owned by anyone because all he does is stand there. I agree that the best thing that could happen for this team is for Costner to quit and Smith to start getting more PT.
