i mean, they play the brewery when they play in raleigh if thats what you mean.

^^ and yea it was a long time coming. a few of the guys in the band didnt like their own style at all really and theyve had a ton of turnover the last few years.

yea, love that place.

Anywho, came to gripe about something I am seeing a lot more lately. I know of several large bands that do this and within the past year or two I know of several smaller/local bands doing this. Basically with pro tools and logic pro and all the other computer software and plugins etc. out there, its getting stupid what people can do with drums.

Not naming names since some of the local bands involved have been people I know but this is like the 4th band I have heard of that went into the studio and literally had the engineer program their entire set of drum tracks for the album (ie the drummer never played them outside of the "sample" hits that made up the pallet to choose from). What makes it even more annoying is hearing people talk about how "sick" those drummers are. Its bad enough when the engineers these days are pitch shifting vocals and falsifying drum tracks that were actually at least played, but straight up programming them is cheap. And on top of that, the latest band that I found out did it, they didnt even play all their guitar leads; they had a guitar player from a well known band come in to play their leads. Another band did this with drums but got a very well known bass player to come in and write and record all the bass parts.

Am I just being picky here? Or does anyone else agree with me that this is as cheap as it gets? Obviously I know there are "studio" musicians in the music industry, but this is a little different. We're talking about people straight up not being able to play whats on their record and then passing the work off as their own.

I have heard some of it at my friend's place (he has really been digging it) but I havent gotten around to picking it up yet. Sticks and Stones and S/T were so freaking catchy. I have catalyst and didnt listen to it much; never got around to picking up the one before this.

They are fun live though...Ive thought about going to that charlotte show.

edit: holy jeebus shai hulud is playing with them? I really should go to this

+ Kreator is playing at Volume 11
- It's $25.

I'd love to see Kreator, but I don't know about this one. Exodus is playing too. Never really liked or disliked them and don't really care if I see them.

I agree with called on his statements honestly I hope none of my fave bands do that. I don't think they do unless they play the tracks when live too which is possible and even shittier. Atleast people expect tallentless pop stars to do this. Actual bands doing it is pretty shitty.

^^ nah only 1 or 2 from the triangle area here are ones that I know did that and not ones I think you listen to. The thing that aggravates me now is that you wonder how far it will go. If more bands start doing this to try and sound better and get big record deals (exactly why these bands did this really), I wonder how many more bands are going to want to play along to keep themselves in the game.

And most kids listening to it are oblivious too which makes it worse.

im pretty much right there with you, especially these days. The main band I give an exception to is deftones. Chino is not good live, but their albums are great. Plus he used to be a lot better (especially before he shredded his vocal chords the first time).

^did you ever see Norma Jean when Brad was doing vocals?

He was the one who filled in for I guess close to 2 years after josh scogin left (Brad never recorded tho). Awesome stage presence. Worst. Live. Vocalist. Ever.

haha yea, they were HUGE when they first formed. I still think "Bless the Martyr, and Kiss the Child" is a reallllly heavy album though.

man I never get tired of watching this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-lxwlgyhhA

its from 2005 so this actually isnt that long ago, but if you never saw Dillinger live before they mellowed out a little bit at their shows you missed out! last time I saw them they still had a lot better stage presence than most bands but it wasnt the spectacle it used to be.

haha yes that one is awesome too. and what makes that more awesome is that that same festival and same stage is host to brad from norma jean's worst taped performance ever probably haha. he totally destroys (in a bad way) one of norma jean's best songs ever "memphis will be laid to waste"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eOT6STvRfg&feature=related

makes you wonder if they ever even listened to him scream when they asked him to fill in lol.

on another note, aaron weiss' guest vocals on that song on the record are the best part of that song imo

maybe that was a result of my high expectations though.

I havent had that many metal/hardcore releases that I have really loved so far this year and there arent a ton that I am that excited about coming out later this year. :/ Isis is solid so I've been happy with that, and a few others I guess but it seems like a pretty slow year. TONS of bands out there, just not much that is really resonating with me.
