Conversely, the people who are ok with this and the people who would criticize a R POTUS for the same thing probably have a huge ironic overlap.

you implied that it would be a large overlap, i don't think it would

on the other hand though, reagan has widespread support among the right and the criticism about this is mostly from the right

Abidini: Yes, for a night. They told us you going to be there for 20 minutes but it took hours and hours.

Did IQs around here actually drop over the last 8 years? Someone explain to me how paying back a debt is ransom under any possible circumstance. Words matter folks. The only part of this you could possibly claim was a "ransom" is the timing. In which case, who cares how Iran propagandized a totally one sided outcome for American negotiators? We completed a deal that stripped Iran of its industrial nuclear infrastructure, negotiated a debt payment well below what Iran was actually asking for, and got back a bunch of hostages in return for literally nothing of substance. That's a win, win, win. You want to know what a ransom payment looks like? Look no further than the billions of dollars worth of weapons Reagan sent to Iran to end that hostage crisis.

Furthermore, the entire concept of "US doesn't pay ransom" is a farce. Of course we pay ransoms, we've done it time, and time, and time again over hundreds of years. Granted, it's always more complicated than simple quid pro quo, which is how we can continue claiming that we don't pay ransoms.

They aren't dropping them because they aren't making money though.

https://news.aetna.com/news-releases/aetna-reports-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-2015-results/

Quote :
"Full-year 2015 operating earnings were $2.7 billion, or $7.71 per share, a per-share increase of 15 percent over full-year 2014. "

And how are they making so much money? Oh yeah, thanks to the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.

Quote :
"The company said its overall profit leapt 38% in the final quarter of the year, as a key measure of spending on medical costs fell. The strong quarterly results were fueled largely by its government business, which includes Medicare and Medicaid."

So what is this really about?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2016/07/21/justice-department-sues-to-block-anthem-acquisition-of-cigna/

Quote :
"The Obama administration on Thursday sued to block two blockbuster mergers involving health insurers, setting up a potential showdown with four of the nation’s largest carriers covering tens of millions of individuals and families."

Oh.....right....they are children. Let's hurt the people we're supposed to be serving to get back at the federal government.

It just gets on my nerves when libertarians slap themselves on the back for having a solution (and many times a pretty good solution)

But they don't have a candidate (or even a libertarian leaning republican) in 98% of all the votes I've ever cast.

The problem is I don't agree with them on a significant number of issues, even little L libertarians. I might consider one if they neuter a lot of libertarian ideas ala Gary Johnson, but I'm content to see what they can pull together on their own.

I also don't want to have to wade through all the neo-confederates and associated crazies.

So I think I'll just continue to support the progressive politicians, who, by the way, have done more to end MJ prohibition than the libertarian party by a long shot (Obama not withstanding)

"WASHINGTON—New details of the $400 million U.S. payment to Iran earlier this year depict a tightly scripted exchange specifically timed to the release of several American prisoners held in Iran.

The picture emerged from accounts of U.S. officials and others briefed on the operation: U.S. officials wouldn’t let Iranians take control of the money until a Swiss Air Force plane carrying three freed Americans departed from Tehran on Jan. 17. Once that happened, an Iranian cargo plane was allowed to bring the cash home from a Geneva airport that day."

So it would have been preferable to pay Iran $400 million without securing the departure of the three Americans?

I feel like that scenario would have elicited far greater outrage.
