it really does, they need to take in to account the space in between the screens, not just chop the image up and stretch it across the gaps

looking forward to it though

Does anybody know if they are doing the STH gift thing again this year? I swear I heard that somewhere, but I haven't seen anything about it.

Yeah that is pretty sweet with the song. They are the only team in the game that has their real song like that to my knowledge.

“The one thing I really am sad about is that I didn’t retire a Hurricane,” Hedican said Tuesday from his home in California. “I really wanted to. I wish it was possible to sign a one-day contract. I’d pay (general manager) Jimmy (Rutherford) to let me sign for a dollar and put the jersey on again."

I guess the NHL is not like the NFL, where you can do such thing.

The new CBA pretty much put an end to it. If we signed Hedican, the contract would count against the salary cap even if he retired.

On another note, the Albany CEO sort of leaked that we are apparently looking for options in 'the Carolinas' for an AHL affiliation. Could the Checkers be moving on up to the AHL?

It definitely would be the most likely candidate. How do the Checkers do attendance wise? They obviously have the arena in place, but no clue how many people the team could pull in.

It would be badass though.

The Checkers do very well attendance wise. I researched all that and posted the numbers somewhere once, but I can't remember where. If I recall they actually outdrew a majority of the AHL teams. Plus, they play in the nicest arena in minor league sports (and nicer than a good many NHL venues).

There is a rumor that the Canes want all 3 affiliates in North Carolina. They are looking at a scenario where our AHL team would be in Charlotte, and our ECHL eventually being in Greensboro.

Thats really not that far fetched... Greensboro was the Carolina Monarchs of the AHL, Charlotte Checkers ECHL... but when the Canes moved, obviously to Greensboro.... that ended the AHL and hockey in Greensboro has never been the same.

How fucking sweet would it be to have that scenario with Charlotte being the AHL... people in Charlotte would possibly take more interest in the Canes. Which, let me tell you, sucks donkey balls here. There's 2 million people here that give two shits about the Hurricanes and it pains my heart.

God Oct. 2 can't get here quick enough

I am looking for some cheaper tickets for the game tomorrow. Has anyone used Stub Hub or any other similar websites to purchase Hurricanes tickets? Are they legit?

stubhub's definitely legit. can't speak for any others

although it's probably too late to get them for a game tomorrow, since they have to be shipped and everything

19 of the HD games are away, so that's good. My fear was that they would just do mostly home ones.

Would Charlotte support an AHL team? I mean, they barely support an ECHL team. Although it would be nice to get an ECHL team back up here in Roanoke...maybe that franchise can move here and Charlotte can go AHL?

What about bringing back the GBoro Monarchs? They'd be the only game in town come October each year.

How do they barely support an ECHL team? They have the best attendance in the ECHL, and as I posted above, their attendance would beat most AHL teams.

Missed that post. I was going off of hearsay. I brought my weak game.

I was really just trying to make up a scenario under which we could get a team back up here, one that's not in the UHL or SPHL. I don't blame owners for avoiding the Roanoke Civic Center in favor of better venues though. The city has been inept at maintaining and marketing it. We'd be lucky to have a SPHL team, which sucks since they don't have any sort of development agreement with anyone.

They need to move the penalty timers like Jrb mentioned. I kept having to search to find it every time I went to look for it.

There was nobody there last night, but that's preseason for you.

^It is silly. They should make it a family night where kids get in free and parents get 1/2 off. I mean you'll have more people there and then during the season the kids will scream about how they wanna go to another game.

I agree I have no idea why they do that every year. They either need to severely discount the preseason games, or just have them somewhere else, like Charlotte and Greensboro.

they've had a free admission preseason game before. don't know why they still don't have that.
