It's about to get very real. Columbia has just been hit with a Title VI lawsuit, and the plaintiff is asking for class action status. A group of Congressional Democrats are also invoking Title VI in their demand that the university get things under control. Faculty members are forming a human chain around the encampment to obstruct police efforts at removing them. This puts Columbia in the unenviable position of explaining in a Title VI lawsuit why its faculty is literally standing beside Hamas supporters (lookup what SJP says, it's accurate).

^^ got a cite for that claim? The student organizations involved in these actions signed open letters both on their own websites and in thrir respective student newspapers in the days after October 7th expressing solidarity with Hamas and its actions. I believe the main organization behind SJP has also explicitly stated their support for Hamas.

^^the hostages have the full support of the Israeli and US governments. They have powerful forces seeking justice and safety.

Gaza civilians have lots of international support, but that support is powerless unless it can pressure either the US or Israeli government. American citizens don't have much ability to do the latter (and surprisingly little to do the former unfortunately!).
