I do not understand how Audie Cole can be a starter going into the Spring practices. He is terrible.

http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/952218.html

Lots of interesting stuff there I think, Nate Irving at MLB, Washington 3rd on the depth chart behind Underwood and Barnes, our young OL prospects making up the majority of our OL.

re: Audie Cole

Could it be that he's 6'5" 239 at SLB?

Also, it's sad that it looks like Colby Jackson has been moved to LB.

I'm still waiting for the second coming of A-Train.

Washington is coming off of an injury, so it makes sense that he is the the third RB right now.

excited to see curtis underwood get some reps. i maintain that he would've gotten serious playing time if he didn't fumble every time they put him in a game. hopefully he's taken care of that.

all the injured players are holdovers from last season, i believe

Mattes fucked up his knee at the end of the season, right? Byrd tore an ACL, Carter is still nursing his injury...

i don't think we have any new ones yet, but don't worry, we will

Yeah, it was pretty bad too I think he tore both his ACL and MCL, hopefully he'll be close to 100% by September.

Also, PP posted this early this evening:
Quote :
"“It’s the first day – it’s all about fundamentals and getting lined up. Without pads everybody looks pretty good so they have to be better Thursday and then we have spring break and then they come back the following week and we start putting pads on – then I think we can start making judgments.”

“This will really benefit [Glennon] a lot. He’s getting a lot of time to throw; he’s getting a lot of attention coaching-wise, he should get better and better every day. It’s really important to him.”

“[Bible] is gonna come out and do what he can do every day. I think today will be a pretty good indicator to him. He’s still in chemotherapy, he gets back in the office at about 11:30 every day. He’s part of the plan but what we’ve done – it’s my fault that we got caught flat-footed last year – so we’re splitting up more of the things on offense. We anticipate he’s going to be here but there’s gonna be times where he has to go sit down, which I think he did today.”

“I made him get a letter from the doctor saying its okay for him to be out here. I told him I didn’t want his wife suing me if something bad happens. The doctor gave him a letter and I think he agrees that this is good for him. As much as he can do, we’re going to let him do.”

“One thing about being a coordinator or being a head coach is that you understand how difficult it is to be a coordinator or a head coach and I think you are a better assistant because of it. I think [Jon Tenuta] will add a lot of knowledge and experience to that position and to our defense. I think he was excited about being a coach – there is something about having the dot off you too. The bulls eye isn’t on your back all the time so you can just go out and coach.”

“[Tenuta] better be recruiting. He coached at Georgia Tech for all those years – he knows all the high schools his kids went to high school in the greater Atlanta area so I think he knows all those coaches down there.”

“You can tell there is a difference [with Irving back]. I didn’t know what to expect but he looks like he hasn’t missed anything.”

“He’s so instinctual – one of the plays we had trouble with last year he read it perfectly. Didn’t have to say a word to him, he figures it out. That’s of great value.” "

My prediction: 10-2 this year. We start out with a loss to Western Carolina and never look back

I hope they are just new practice uniforms. I really like the uniforms that we have had the past two years. They are simple, clean and remind me of the Rivers era uniforms.

I wish we could go back to the Rivers era Nike jerseys. They look the best. I like the 3 wolves on the mountain logo, but I don't really like it on the jerseys. I think the practice jerseys actually look really nice and wouldn't mind switching to those.

Honestly I think we should do a once a year thing where we wear throwback jerseys with diamond S helmets or the even older S helmet.

Any one have updates from Spring Practice? How players are looking? Any surprises?

The first pics I have seen of Nate's wreck, crazy stuff.

They've had 2 practices.

Spring break is this week. More information might leak out when they're actually out on the field.

So I guess practice has started back?

I am also guessing with the dismissal of Sweezy, it's Teal's position to loose.

What about Raynard Randolph, is he going to be DT or OT? I am guessing he will not be here until the Fall?

Randolph is DT all the way, you're thinking of Tyson Chandler.

^^ If he did truly beat up a 65 year old man, then I hope O'Brien does dismiss him. We may not be a good team, but at least we are not a bunch of thugs and criminals like UF. We gotta have something to hang our hat on.

It does sound like there is more to the story though with Sweezy so hopefully there was some self defense involved and not a straight beat down of an old man.

^there's a thread for it, but the 65 yr old man and somebody else left the bus to pursue sweezy after he exited the bus. so they weren't totally "victims". of course, sounds like sweeny was being a jack-ass in the first place.

^ the only "for sure" losses are the VT and GT games IMO. Obviously we won't win all of the toss up games, but the ACC in football will be a lot like the ACC in basketball this past season. A lot of parity, one true thoroughbred (VT) and a couple of good teams in GT and possibly Miami.

UNC scares me as much as anyone else because of the defense. Clemson will be much worse without Spiller, FSU still needs to prove they are as good as they look on paper, I have no idea what to expect from teams like BC, WF, and Maryland. I assume Maryland will suck, Wake will be average, and BC will overachieve and beat us once again.

I am optimistic for a 7-5 season (losses to GT, VT, BC, Clemson, and UNC). I think Cincinnati will really suffer from Kelly's exit. Although if we lose to Cincinnati, it could set up an epic mid-season 4 game losing streak heading into ECU. The fire O'Brien train would be chugging along at full steam if we lost to the Pirates.

Imagine the double shitty press we'd get if we ran O'Brien out of town with the remnants of the Herb "firing" still floating around.

Eh, I think the press would have a hard time spinning it like that with 4 straight losing seasons

^ Don't sell the press short. They like to spin that we "fired" Herb and often categorize him as an elite level coach without using those words. Dude has one Sweet 16 and no Conference Titles to his name, but the way they talk about him in regards to us, you'd think we'd run of the second coming off John Wooden or something.

V Herb had 5 straight seasons where he failed to make the NCAA's to start his tenure here and wasn't a proven commodity as a head coach in a high-major conference, unlike O'brien. We gave Herb ample time to right the ship AND to take things to the next level. He did the first, but I doubt he would have ever done the second. Yet we are still painted as the bad guys for being dissatisfied with mediocrity.

We could argue this point all day.

If O'Brien went to 4 straight shitty bowls and we fired him that would be one thing, but 4 straight losing seasons is another entirely

Did I say anywhere in my post that bball is better now? I'm just saying that if Herb had produced the same results at another program of comparable basketball pedigree, I seriously doubt the media would be throwing that program's fanbase under the bus for being dissatisfied with one Sweet 16 appearance and no Conference Titles in 10 years of coaching.
