Sounds like he will still have a show airing in the Raleigh market. Works for me. I can't really listen to any other sports talk show on the radio for more than 5 minutes.

^^I don't think he's gonna be on the air until next July though...couldn't quite tell from the article

^He was a local sports talk host with a show the last 13 years syndicated all over the Carolinas...pretty sure he's the biggest local sports talk guy in the area

When I started listening to Bomani, I'd never believe I could say this

but I wish he was still on the air. He was goddamn entertaining and, once you ignore the blatant trolling for callers, was probably the most level headed, objective, and entertaining of any sports talk folks around here.

Bomani was the best local guy. Only sports show I couldn't listen to was packman's, so this is good news for me. Give Bomani that time slot

You guys realize that Bomani has an international show now on Sirius radio right? He broadcasts from his home in Durham and it is produced in Toronto. He has been doing the show for about a year now.

By far the best show on radio. I have listened to it since 2004 even when I was in a market that didnt get it i would call in and listen. Glad to see he will still be here. I wish he could bring his cast with him to be honest....

It's just that I thought he was a stupid fucker at first.

if you need a really good college football/NFL show listen to the 790 The Zone feed of the Barnhart and Durham show... they really really know their shit. Pure info, all the time, no gimmicky bullshit, no rants, etc.

Barnhart is crazy connected, breaks new stories all the time, great guests too

old man = John Kilgo, sometimes guest host?

Celania has been the best personality at that station for years, but Pack was always good for some laughs, although it was painful to listen to after a Wolfpack loss to the Heels in bball, for example

Always liked Packer's show, though he was the king of the sports cliche. He rarely had anything original to say, mostly just spewed out the obvoius.

Agreed on Kilgo though -- what a moron. Even if I was a UNC fan, I think he'd get on my nerves ... like the retarded-drunk uncle you have to pretend to like.

On an unrelated note, I wish I had a drop of QCB's laugh that I could randomly embed into threads.

I listen sometimes when Jim Rome is on (though they don't play the 1st hour). I haven't listened to the show that comes on after it yet (Sports Yap, or something stupid like that).

^^^ some caller said, "you are awesome blah blah blah, looking forward to your show every day". Talyor Z said, "yeah, these next couple days should be fun".

You it sounded like a non permanent solution, which would be a good thing.

"Wide sweeping changes at Charlotte sports talk radio show WFNZ-AM
Comments 1
December 22, 2010 3:54 PM
Steve Reed
CHARLOTTE – Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad has agreed to become the full-time radio co-host at WFNZ 610-AM as part of some wide-sweeping changes at Charlotte’s top local sports talk radio station, according to sources.

Muhummad, the franchise's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards, will join former Panther Frank Garcia in the noon to 3 p.m. time slot, replacing Brentson Buckner as co-host. Buckner’s contract was set to expire at the end of the year and previously wrote on his Facebook page he was leaving the station.

Muhammad played for the Panthers from 1996 to 2004 and then returned in 2008 to play two more years before retiring after last season. He was unavailable for comment.

The station will also be making changes in the other time slots as well.

In the 3-7 p.m. slot formerly occupied by Mark Packer, the station will debut a new co-host format featuring Taylor Zarzour and Marc James.

Both Zarzour and James have extensive experience covering sports in the South.

Zarzour’s morning show on WDNC is currently the highest-rated talk show in Raleigh.

Previously, Zarzour worked as a broadcaster for WEAR TV in Pensacola, Fla., in 2000-01. From there he went on to host the Morning Show for Sports Radio 560 in Nashville, Tenn., before returning home to Mobile, Ala., where he served as the program director and afternoon host for Sports Radio 105.5 until 2004.

He first came to North Carolina in June of 2004, serving as program director and morning host for triangle sports talk 1490/1090 in Raleigh/Durham until the summer of 2006. He also hosted pre- and post-game shows for football and men’s basketball for the Tar Heel Sports Network in addition to being the play-by-play voice of Carolina’s women’s basketball team.

James has hosted radio shows in Miami and Tampa, Fla., and is currently working covering the Miami Hurricanes college football team.

In addition, the station will also debut a new local sports talk show from 10 a.m. to noon hosted by Brett Jensen, who has worked previously at the station as a fill-in co-host and for a number of newspapers and Internet sites covering college football. The station will employ guest hosts such as former professional players, sports writers and broadcasters, primarily the same individuals that once worked alongside Packer during the now-defunct Primetime with the Packman Show. Packer's contract expires at the end of the year and he couldn't come to an agreement on a new contact with the station.

When contacted about the changes D.J. Stout, the operations manager and program director at WFNZ, refused to comment on any of the reported changes in the station’s lineup except to say he is “very excited” about the future of the station.

The station’s highest-rated show, the Mac Attack featuring Chris McClain and Jim Celania, will remain in the 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. time slot, sources confirmed.

The changes are expected to take place on Jan. 3.

As of now the station has not determined what the names of the new shows will be.

"

So Buck is gone, no more Colin Cowherd (replaced by Brett Jensen), and Taylor Zarzour is Packman's replacement.

cant complain...I thought to myself months ago that Moose would be a great personality in some form of broadcasting...and as much as BJ Brett Jensen likes to hate on NC State, I'll happily take him over Cowherd, especially since I have the option of tuning my XM radio to ESPN if I want to laugh at Herd

So is the "Packman Show" really defunct? I thought he was still on the air in his other markets. has TZ been using the Packman team of QCB and hitman over the last month?

Taylor Z is like the Lane Kiffin of radio. He keeps getting better jobs regardless of the fact that he sucks. His parents paid for that radio station he entered the triangle market with in 2004.

I assume QCB/Hitman/Etc. are now out until Packman comes back with a show in July?

i would assume that too. it's really remarkable how awful local charlotte sports talk radio is

at least AM 730 plays national shows like dan patrick, jim rome, etc.

the loose cannon guys (pat o'brien, et al) are actually pretty funny too

Pretty sure because of Packer's non-compete clause in his contract, the show "Primetime" will go on for another 4-5 months, with QCB, with Hitman, etc, while they just cycle through a bunch of temporary co-hosts

Just because Packman is not on the radio anymore (except for all the commercials and ads that CBS still has the rights to) doesn't mean CBS isn't going to run their Primetime show with QCB, Hitman, etc

Don't confuse Packer not hosting the show with the show not airing anymore
