simple answer is with his 2nd round rookie contract, he's cheaper than a veteran backup, and if Cam goes down, we're fucked regardless

he might be cheaper than a veteran backup, but i'm pretty sure armanti edwards would be a better option.

or even jordan gross.

or olindo mare.

or sir purr.

anyone with insider care to post what they said about the Panthers? My subscription ran out

its a ridiculous article (2015 power rankings) but I am still interested where the "experts" have us pegged in the future

Quote :
"The bar graphs reflect the average rating given by the voters for each category.
Category averages are weighted by importance to generate overall score.

Roster: Because of Cam Newton at QB there is a perception that this is a young roster, but the reality is there are not a lot of young stars to build around. This is a veteran offensive line, and their best playmaker, WR Steve Smith, doesn't have a lot of years left. The RB position needs upgrading. On defense, the Panthers have some quality youth on the defensive line and young LB Luke Kuechly seems to be a guy they can build around. -- Horton

Quarterback: Carolina's rise on this list is due to Newton. He had the best rookie season ever, from a statistical standpoint, and his work ethic isn't a question. He has an incredibly high ceiling. People simply didn't realize the kind of arm talent he had. -- Dilfer

Draft: Newton could turn into the pick of the decade. His brilliant rookie season makes people forget how much we still didn't know when he was taken. The 2012 draft -- Luke Kuechly, DE Frank Alexander and CB Josh Norman specifically -- should invigorate the defense. If the defense improves, they can contend in the NFC South. -- Kiper

Front office: GM Marty Hurney seems to have the final voice on personnel matters and he has the trust of owner Jerry Richardson. He also has a better relationship with coach Ron Rivera than he did with John Fox. This is a veteran scouting staff with a trusted voice in college scouting director Don Gregory. They prefer to build through the draft, but they will make a free-agent move to fill a specific need. -- Horton

Coaching: A new, but strong coaching staff really seems to be headed in the right direction. They have two qualified coordinators, Rob Chudzinski on offense and Sean McDermott on defense, that have excelled at developing their talent. Chudzinski especially has done a nice job with Newton. With success on the horizon there is not likely to be a lot of turnover. -- Horton"

Mick Mixon was on the radio earlier today...a couple things he mentioned based on what was happening on the field today:

- Norman looked like the rookie that is the least overwhelmed by the NFL and looks like he already belongs
- Cam was making some great throws, but so was Pickles...better than him looking shitty, I guess, just in case the savior misses any time
- Otah was blowing up defensive linemen...but he was playing right tackle on the 2nd string offense, so I guess he should be doing that...but a healthy Otah could be huge

I'm gonna go ahead and pin this observation on the fact that newton is the only non-shitty qb mick has ever seen practice. I mean the second best is probably darian durant. So, yeah pickles still sucks.

nothing earth shattering, but it didn't go off of the rails until the Cardinals game

I think you have to give Jake the unofficial "Best Panthers QB ever" title until Cam's played at least three years at or above the level he played last year. A ring this season makes that point moot.

Put beuerlein on those john fox coached teams and the panthers win a super bowl or three.

Put delhomme on those no defense having capers/seifert coached teams and delhomme wouldn't have lasted a year.

Good topic on a slow Wednesday afternoon

1. X Clown
2. Deshaun's run vs Philly
3. Cota's Interception
4. Cam's first bomb to Smith vs AZ
5. TIE between Buerlin's run vs GB and Double Trouble raping Tampa on MNF

Jake imploded pretty hard in the end but you can not look at what he did for the team in his earlier years with the team.

BTW what was x-clown?
