Post apocalyptic class war aboard a train that travels around the frozen earth. Premise sounds pretty wonky, but it looks really good and has great reviews (94% on rotten tomatoes). Also pretty damn good cast.

It did really well when released in Korea (where director is from), but Harvey Wienstein wanted to gut the movie for American audiences. The director fought to keep his cut of the film, and won, but in return Wienstein has done very little media for the film and has done a very limited release. It has been doing exceptionally well in the limited release, and is expanding. Will be at the Rialto starting tomorrow, I shall be there (also coming to VOD).

Saw this yesterday at one of the two theaters it's playing at in Charlotte. One of the more unique films I've seen in a really long time. It takes pieces here and there from a lot of other movies, but is completely original at the same time. It is pretty deep, much more than just an uprising by the lower class over the upper class, and I felt a little mind fucked at the end. Really enjoyed it overall

I've seen the Korean cut which is supposedly better than the U.S. cut. It's really just OK

^No, I think they are the same. As I said in the first post, they wanted to make an American cut, but director fought it and got to keep his cut for America

Yes, now that I think about it, you're definitely right. It's been a couple of months since I read about it. But it was a compromise. They agreed to keep the original cut, but it's getting a much smaller release. It was originally going to get a wide release.

Either way, see it in a theater (if you can) if you want to support the film makers. But don't expect a great movie, because it's not. Tilda Swinton is pretty great though.

It was going to get a wide-release, but they were going to re-cut the movie. There was a compromise between the director and Weinstein to keep the original cut but have a much smaller release.

It's a B grade movie with some acting and some concepts that were more deserving of a bigger movie. But ultimately it crumbled under the weight of its own ambition IMO. worth a viewing at home but, if I were to have watched this in a theater, I would have walked out very disappointed.

I mean, this movie didn't make a goddamn bit of sense. I laughed out loud at several serious moments. John Hurt had like fifteen peg legs and his name was Gilliam. I would definitely recommend it.

I just don't understand blowing the train up and all but 2 (at most 4?) people dying. There's no hope for continuing the human race unless there's another group of survivors out there. In which case, what was the point of escaping?

They should have pulled the breaks.

I thought it was great until the bomb goes off. While the wreck was spectacular it definitely seems like everyone is dead except the two that hop off the train...and of course there's a hungry ass polar bear right in front of them...so...peace out humanity.

The movie was interesting, but definitely very disjointed with tons of plot-holes. Let's ignore things already presented to us (arm frozen solid in 7 minutes, explorers who froze years ago are still frozen solid) and end with the fact that the world was much warmer than anticipated so let's all just leave the train!

Also, there was absolutely no reason for the girl to have psychic powers. It was a useless plot-device which added nothing and could have been handled in other ways.

I liked it. I thought it look fantastic. way better looking than it should have and everyone acted well . I like how they got closer to the engine(God) each cart was like this secluded fantasy. all the poor people were stuffed in a couple cars and then have a whole cart for a steam room spa. LOL. For whatever reason I rolled my eyes at him confessing to being a cannibal but the roaches as protein bars was hilarious.

Extremely unbelievable, but entertaining. The frozen arm in 7 minutes can be explained - they made a point to indicate they were at a certain altitude, and we are led to believe that the train travels pretty fast. Even at normally cold temps, an arm would freeze hanging it out the window for a certain amount of time.

The people still being frozen - as long as it's 32 and no sun, I don't see why they would melt.

Biggest thing that got me was the length of the train ride. Did it traverse the oceans? Or just North/South America? And it was able to go through all that ice without derailing? What about landslides?

The completely frozen arm, down to the deep tissue and bone shattering like glass, was definitely exaggerated, but it didn't bother me that much. I had a friend that was annoyed by it, and I agree--the guy didn't just have awful frostbite and a dead arm, the shattering was silly, especially for the reveal at the ending being that it wasn't too cold to be outside anymore.

As far as traversing the globe, they show a map briefly--it would have had long bridges or tunnels, but I think it tried to use "land bridges" as much as possible---transatlantic don't remember.

It got through the ice and landslides because the front of the train is a spike that breaks the ice and collects it to make water--it's why the movie is called Snowpiercer.

I watched this last month and really liked it. It was fun, and it had obvious "holes" as far as suspension of disbelief goes, but I didn't really care.
