EMERGENCY BLOOD DRIVE -- ONLY A ONE DAY RESERVE LEFT!!

submitted by brainysmurf on Thursday, February 13 at 4:35 PM

Tomorrow (February 14, 2003)from 8am to 1pm the Red cross will be having an emergency blood drive.

It will be in the Red Cross Bus parked at the Vet School --inside the large animal hospital parking lot -- you cant miss it the wolfline drives right past it.

They only have a ONE DAY RESERVE
elective surgeries all over are being cancelled and from what i hear at least one Fayetteville hospital is completely out of blood.

Please please come out and give blood

they desperately need both types of O blood, but everyone eligible needs to go give!!!

Give the gift of life for Valentine's day

Just one pint can save THREE lives

I dont know --they called the facilities superintendent for the CVM and asked if they could have it -- maybe thats the only place they could find to park the bus -- main campus cant afford to give up too many spaces, while the fenced-in large animal hospital parking lot is for horse trailers and stuff-- plenty of room for the bus there.

Be sure to drink plenty of water that morning if you go -- so your blood will not be like molasses.

if you are a lil dehydrated it takes for freaking ever to fill up the bag ... been there done that

I don't see how one pint can save three lives as traumas routinely get 5 units before they even leave the E.D.

I imagine the average transfusion is less than a pint. There's probably enough minor work done that skews the average away from the 5 pint trauma incidents.

I'm O+, if I wasn't in class from 10 to 3 pm, I'd be down there.

People who come into the ED with a low H&H get 2 units of blood. it takes a little more than one to bring a regular anemic up, but they get a little extra. 3 units for someone who is really low. so one unit can't even do up a routine transfusion. That's why every one who is able should donate.

college life has it's extra curricular activities other than alcohol and cigarettes, does anyone know if recreational drugs totally rules one out for blood donations??? I am O- and was part of Rex Blood plan before travelling to southeast asia, where i got too close to WHO hazard areas. My travels have hindered me from donating, and i wish the recreation won't.
