9/11/2001 8:20:26 PM
i want to give blood, but i smoked up on 8/18 -- is it still cool for me to give?
9/11/2001 8:21:06 PM
ironmike. I think you have to wait 4 or 6 months before you can give again. I'm not sure though.
9/11/2001 8:21:13 PM
You can give blood if you are on medication....they'll test your blood after you give it to, so perhaps some of you will be getting some surprising news in a couple of weeks....
9/11/2001 8:23:55 PM
see post above, I started a thread on all the locations you can go give blood
9/11/2001 8:46:39 PM
Rex has a bloodcenter
9/11/2001 8:50:58 PM
Hey ya'll I just talked to a lady from the American Red Cross. She said blood drives are PACKED and will be for the next 6-8 weeks. They are actually in desperate need of greeters and canteen workers. If you are interested in helping please contact me at chicknman@excite.com or 512-9621 or you can contact Amy at 231-1602 ext.420.
9/11/2001 8:53:42 PM
The blood drive on Campus next Tuesday will be a great opportunity to donate. It will be in Talley Student Center.
9/11/2001 8:54:48 PM
If you try to go to a blood drive anywhere it would be in your best interest to call and make an appointment.
9/11/2001 8:55:47 PM
If blood drives are completely booked up, then why are tickers on tv asking people to donate blood?
9/11/2001 8:56:49 PM
I talked to Amy this evening and she said some people had been waiting for 3.5 hours just to donate blood.
9/11/2001 8:57:47 PM
well because because the tickers are national television tickers. not everywhere are the blood drives booked upchickenman-sent you an email
9/11/2001 8:58:26 PM
Thanks Nrallen. :-) I'll call you soon.
9/11/2001 8:59:34 PM
No the tickers are not national...last time I checked Rex was in Wake County
ok, well i was talking about the CNN ones, sorry
9/11/2001 9:00:15 PM
The last time I checked the Red Cross had nothing to do with Rex.
9/11/2001 9:00:49 PM
Some people need to keep their blood for a little later on. You can only donate 1 time every 2 months. I imagine people are still alive in that wreckage. They are going to need blood as well. Also many people will need blood transfusions for weeks. We still need people to give several weeks from now because blood can only be saved for so long.
9/11/2001 9:02:37 PM
You have to wait at least 56 days to give blood.
9/11/2001 9:03:19 PM
chicknman - The news ticker is LOCAL, and it is stating that the RED CROSS is in need of people to donate blood. Also, in the same ticker, it is stated that REX hospital has a blood donation center. I don't think you should be discouraging anyone from donating blood if they want to do so.
9/11/2001 9:06:04 PM
how soon can you donate after you've smoked up?
9/11/2001 9:08:38 PM
Malagoat I'm not discouraging people from giving. I'm just telling them that it may be best to hold off. Malagoat, I'm not an idiot on this subject. I spoke with two different people from the Red Cross. These weren't just random people there. One of them is in charge of scheduling blood drives the other is in charge of scheduling volunteers. I'm also currently starting a Red Cross club here on campus and I'm a chair of the Points for Pints program which is a Red Cross sponsored program with the NCAA which is a competition between 20 schools nation-wide.
9/11/2001 9:09:14 PM
Joe, smoked up on what? weed?
9/11/2001 9:10:57 PM
chicknman, yea
9/11/2001 9:11:23 PM
Well, all I am saying is perhaps you shouldn't be telling people to hold off, I didn't call you an idiot. I'm always hearing about blood shortages, not surpluses anyways.
9/11/2001 9:11:28 PM
pick and choose your battles
9/11/2001 9:12:40 PM
Malagoat......if everyone donates now who is going to donate a month from now when that last transfusion is needed for that survivor?
9/11/2001 9:13:51 PM
I don't recall any questions being on the sheet about it.I would give yourself at least a week or two though.
9/11/2001 9:14:36 PM
The whole healthy population is not going to donate their blood tonight or tomorrow.
9/11/2001 9:15:04 PM
Nrallen, I agree.......I'm done discussing this.
9/11/2001 9:15:08 PM
yea its been like 3 to 3.5 weeks -- i'd just hate for them to take the blood, test it, find something in there they shouldn't, and not be able to use it; i'd rather wait an extra 2 or so weeks and then go, when they can actually use my blood
9/11/2001 9:16:00 PM
Joe you should be cool.....go ahead and give.
9/11/2001 9:21:09 PM
word, im not in any rush, i know they can use blood anytime in the next several weeks, i was just wanting to check and make sure the ARC could use it
9/11/2001 9:21:56 PM
Thanks Joe.....they are always needing people.
9/11/2001 9:22:33 PM
no need for thanks, im doing it cause i want to help out, not to feel better about myself
9/11/2001 9:23:13 PM
How much do you have to weigh in order to give blood?
9/11/2001 9:24:56 PM
Everyone needs to be told THANKS though. Everyone that gives and everyone that volunteers. Everyone deserves a BIG THANKS....not to make them feel good about themselves just because all of this is greatly appreciated and many times donors aren't thanked enough.
9/11/2001 9:25:17 PM
105 lbs Cee
9/11/2001 9:25:45 PM
Thanks.
9/11/2001 9:28:54 PM
