Hey, I just put together a PC with a MSI K8N Neo4 mobo. The problem is that the motherboard's ethernet, sound, and usb support isn't working. If I boot the pc with a usb device attached the boot sequence fails. I can unplug my mouse and keyboard, boot it, then plug it in and it works just fine. Ethernet and sound don't work at all. In the device manager it has these motherboard components listed with the little yellow "this thing isn't working" icons. Suggestions?

yeah install the drivers for them off the cd that came with it. Using the utility you need to do sound and nForce drivers.

Thanks. Getting the drivers sort of fixed it. The sound, ethernet, and usbs now work. But I still can't restart the PC with any usb devices plugged in. If I unplug them, restart, then plug them back in, it's fine. This doesn't seem like a problem with the actual mobo anymore. What could be causing this?

i'm still saying wtf u didnt know to install the drivers but you knew how to get to device manager and see that they werent working right?

I figured I wouldn't need drivers for anything on the motherboard. I've never installed one before, and the disk that came with it said nothing about any drivers; just norton and an overclocking program.Anyone have any clue what this is?

maybe you wired up the USB pins to the motherboard incorrectly

your processor bearings are losing compression. You'll have to reroute the FSB power to the HSF and then adjust the bios settings for heat loss.

^^ I'm using the built-in usb's right now. Anyways, the usb sockets on this board are the foolproof single-socket type.^ That makes no sense.

lol, you dont hang around the garage enough

oh right.Yeah.I'm planning on using elmers between the heatsink and cpu to deal with heat loss, but I'll try your idea next.Come on folks, I know shit about computers and I managed to build a system from scratch with only this one problem. Bite me.

Problem solved. It doesn't support my old mouse.I love that mouse

logitec one by chance?

hmmmm that's pretty weird...

No, I replaced it with a Logitech MX310, actually. The unsupported one was a pretty fancy (but old) IBM model.

you know shit about computers, yet you didn't know you'd have to install drivers for a mobo

"Know shit about computers" in the sense that I know nothing about them.

makes a lot more sense now
