So I got a new router, set it up, and have had no trouble getting a connection with my laptop, and at first didn't have a problem with the desktop. However, now the desktop will not connect. The Linksys network adaptor shows a strong signal, and even says "you are connected to the wireless network named:", but I can't get on the net. The Wireless network connection says "Limited or no connectivity", and when I click on details it says the following:IP Address 0.0.0.0Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0Along with physical address, Default Gateway, DNS Server and WINS Server. I've googled it and tried a few things I found, but have had no luck. Also, I cannot renew my IP address by clicking repair. Any suggestions?

have you unplugged the cable model and rebooted?
8/22/2010 3:32:40 PM
yes a couple of times

are other computers on the same router able to access the 'nets? If so you may want to try uninstalling the linksys and doing the unplug/replug dance to get it to default it's driver settings.

Make sure your desktop is set to use DHCP to get an address. It probably is, so then try to manually assign one.Choose something in the scope of the address pool. 192.168.1.105 will probably be fine with a subnet of 255.255.255.0.

to me it sound like you need to reset the tcp/ip stack and winsock to me
netsh int ip resetnetsh wins reset

You have to offer up the customary chant to the Internet gods:ipconfig /releaseipconfig /renew

If I'm reading this right...you're able to access the internet from your wireless laptop, but can't access it through your wired desktop? If so, I had the exact same issue with the last Linksys router I had. Took it back and got a Netgear and haven't had an issue since. For what it's worth to you...

^^^^Thanks for the recommendation for duro982. He fixed it for me for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend him if you have any computer issues, definitely knows his stuff and very patient, and a nice guy.

It only worked temporarily for a couple of days, I'm back to having the same issues. Anybody have any suggestions on who to call to fix this?
10/14/2010 10:22:35 AM
You're having wired connectivity problems as well? Or is it just the wireless that's flaky?
10/14/2010 11:09:46 AM
only wireless, and only on the pc. It's obviously an issue that the pc is having, because the laptop works fine. I thought it was a program running that was disabling wireless zero config, because I could manually start that and have internet, but that only worked for about a week. Now I'm back to square one.

geek squad perhaps?

Boot to Knoppix or Ubuntu (or whatever Linux flavor) using the CD (don't install) and see if you can get connectivity to hold for a while. Need to narrow down the problem to the connection or the software.

guy at best buy told me to disable my ethernet card, and now it works great. Finally!
