see i have a mixed view on this. some are here minding their own business but some are in gangs and are convicted felons from their country on the lamb One that we hired as a regular outside contractor to the golfcourse i worked at murdered someone in concord and then we found out that he was wanted for multiple accounts of murder/rape/etc. in mexico.I am by no means a bigot but some of the illegals are illegal because couldn't ever be legal here. If I snuck into England illegally, I too would expect to be deported eventually. There are borders for a reason. Have no remorse

We don't have an illegal immigration problem anymore. Our country sucks so bad, nobody wants to come and the people already here are looking for anonymous to get a free ride out.

5/25/2012 1:25:22 PM

Are you suggesting open borders for anyone below a certain poverty level?
5/25/2012 1:29:55 PM
WE SHOULD JUST LET EVERYONE ON EARTH BE AN AMERICANTHEN NO ONE WILL HAVE TO SUFFER THROUGH POOR CONDITIONS
5/25/2012 1:30:07 PM
if someone is killing, raping, stealing, etc. gets caught, is found to be here illegally, their ass should be shipped back. fuck this "aww, they're poor and we should spoon feed" the raping bastard bullshit.[Edited on May 25, 2012 at 1:31 PM. Reason : .]

I don't know exactly what this thread is about. I was talking about deporting illegal criminals (ha, what a stupid phrase; illegals are criminals, but I don't favor immigration witch hunts)

My wife is Canadian and she had to go through a shit ton of paperwork, pay all the fees, and make the trips to Charlotte back when that the was the "local" office. When we got married we had more paperwork, fees, and trips. I say make the damn call, minding their own bidness or not.

Not really, but. I'm not sure we should be housing and feeding them either. Sure, they could possibly get back into the country. There isn't a good answer.

Have you looked at immigration laws of other countries? Many are quite stringent compared to the U.S.

For those of you worried about wasting tax money on prisons, we could legalize marijuana and end the war on drugs and free up a shitton of space in jail for real criminals and save a lot of money at the same time.[Edited on May 25, 2012 at 2:23 PM. Reason : .]

We set quotas on the number of deer, fish, bear, etc. that can be taken each year. Without those limits the animal populations as well as the people who depend on them would suffer either by overpopulation or by the population being decimated.Immigration is a similar issue. We have quotas in place that allow us to help our neighbors without destroying ourselves. In the long run, both Mexico and the US will be better off with sustainable amounts of immigration and foreign aid.Do you really think it helps Mexicans in the long run when their young, healthy, working population picks up and leaves? Do you really think it helps America in the long run when we flood our labor markets to the point that the working class can't earn a living wage?It sells both countries short when we let short term wants outweigh the long term needs. So, I guess the real question is whether current immigration levels are sustainable? Lifting them up while bringing ourselves down is not an acceptable solution. Sometimes the best choice isn't the easiest.[Edited on May 25, 2012 at 2:33 PM. Reason : s]

^this^^^I always laugh when people bring up this irrelevant point.
5/25/2012 2:34:17 PM
oh i might as well stay out of this. Everyone can have their opinions on the issue. I certainly did. Then I spent two years living in some of the poorest areas in northern mexico. Now I work in drop-out prevention for hispanic students. Totally changed my opinion on immigration. its tough having immigration conversations with people (not saying you all fit into this category, just saying in general) who have no clue about the world outside of the bubble they live in. I work everyday with high schoolers who are 'illegal' at no fault of their own. They were brought here when they were infants, and this is their home. But yet they have little hope for the future, bc people like Romney think that supporting things like the Dream Act is unamerican and will just encourage illegal immigration, completely ignoring the issue of what to do with the ones that are already here and not going anywhere since this is their home.interesting program http://www.takeourjobs.org/
5/25/2012 2:44:27 PM
I have no problem taking productive illegal immigrants and getting them on the legal path (including going through immigration procedures) because 1) children 2) many immigrants do work that actual american citizens now refuse to do (one reason I don't believe heavily in unemployment benefits) and 3) it's too big of a problem to start shipping out so many people. However, I do agree that local LEOs should have the capability to check immigration status after 1) someone has been arrested for breaking a law and 2) the person cannot be identified as being here legally. Note that I said a person must first be arrested for breaking a law. Now this runs into the issue of the police making shit up/arresting potential illegals for petty reasons. I've got to think about this part some more.

^ in that is where your problem lies. A good local example is with the Alamance County Sheriffs Office, and 287(g). For those that dont know what 287g is, it basicially local law enforcement goes through training and then get authority for immigration enforcement in their districts. Alamance County Sheriffs Office (ACSO) went though this, and then the corruption and racial profiling began.http://www.ice.gov/287g/ I'll copy below a report I received. If you want the whole thing I can send it to you. I realize that everything has two sides, but in Alamance ever since - Since about 2004, there has been an effort to use the ACSO to find, arrest and deport undocumented workers.- This effort has involved building a new jail to INS specifications, participating in the 287g program, investigating county employees, and license checks in areas inhabited by Hispanics and near churches with large Hispanic congregations; in 2006, there was also a voter intimidation effort involving visiting the homes of recent registrants with Hispanic names (this led to elections being monitored).- About a year ago, the Special Litigation Section of the U.S. Department of Justice initiated an investigation into "racial profiling and discriminatory policing practices" by the ACSOA few stats:In 2010, nearly 70 percent of all non-DWI traffic stops by Alamance County deputies that resulted in charges against undocumented immigrants were for alleged minor offenses that could not be determined until after the vehicles were stopped, figures from Sheriff Terry Johnson show.Of the 206 non-DWI charges against undocumented immigrants in 2010, nearly 54 percent (111) were for no operator’s license; 15 percent (31) were for driving with a revoked license and 1 percent (2) were for having no insurance.Recently pastors at churches with large hispanic populations have told come forward and said that, if they were to speak out, sheriff's deputies would be conducting license checks near their churches the following Sunday.
