you know, the metal part in the base of the stapler that directs the bend direction of the staple pointsnot sure why you would want them to bend outward instead

you know the pinning thing makes sense... sort of anti-climactic, was more interesting when I didn't know. I guess people never use it because a staple is pretty temporary anyway considering the availability of staple removers (not that its hard to get them out anyway)... And the paperclip is a more reasonable (and reusable) temporary binder for paper. As for fabric, well never heard of a staple being used for that, that is what pins are for.
