I don't mean for advertising purposes.I mean as collaboration tools. I hear about stuff like this: http://www.defensenews.com/article/20120626/DEFREG02/306260009/U-S-Military-Launch-Website-Mirrors-Reddit?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE more and more.I've also seen twitter-like platforms developed for the workplace to take advantage of the benefits, knowledge, retention, etc... that social media can bring. So, is something in use by your company? How?****EMCE is inquiring about your company, yet remains secretive about his own

we've been using yammer for a little over a year with pretty good results (probably 1/3-1/2 the company is actively engaged on the site).mostly to share information of general interest to our industry and employee milestones. everything official and important still goes out on the company email all user listserv[Edited on June 26, 2012 at 4:29 PM. Reason : oh, and also for letting people know when there are leftovers from luncheons in the breakroom ]

I hear that in other markets my company uses a Facebook page as a management (or more precisely, micromanagement) tool. They require their employees to update the page every night with pictures/agendas so they can make sure they are doing their jobs.Thank God we don't use that method here. In my market we use a Google Doc that is shared by the whole region. But I don't even remember how to log into it. We did a photobucket thing for about a month as well, and again I did not contribute much[Edited on June 26, 2012 at 4:33 PM. Reason : a]

We also have yammer, but I refuse to use it.The pointless bullshit our people put out there is ridiculous. It reads like an Onion blog."Spending the day tweaking our ROI based processes to facilitate change across the silos."Shit like that.

6/26/2012 5:10:53 PM
If it exists, my HR has found a way to utilize it.

We use a microblogging platform, which was internally created a few years back and is really an open source project. It has it's advantages such as the ability to create groups or subscribe to people/projects that interest you. However, I would say not everyone is as active as I would like to see.[Edited on June 27, 2012 at 9:16 AM. Reason : J]

6/27/2012 12:41:31 PM
Yeah. There's a company specific network similar to twitter. I guess it's helpful sometimes but I usually forget about it.
6/27/2012 5:45:45 PM

1. I have always liked, and appreciated Fry as a user and a person.2. I think one of the biggest obstacles of this social media as the main form of e-communication in the workplacw is that it cannot replace email in terms of effectiveness - are you reaching all of your intended audience?3. I, too, don't particularly care for sharepoint.
