it literally means "The Name," you can probably guess who/what it's referring to.

i wonder if the arabic name "hashim" (also spelled hashem) has anything to do with that. and then there is another arabic name "hisham" as well.

Same root language with many similarities and many differences (think Spanish vs Portuguese, English vs German, etc), so I'm not sure if they are the same words or not.


My favorite phrase in both languages meaning "Peace be upon you":
Shalom Alechem (Hebrew)
Salaam Alekem (Arabic)
