A crew member was pulled from the ocean, not-responsive, still not off the helicopter. The captain is still missing.

^^^is "tarpon" for "tarpaulin?" [Edited on October 29, 2012 at 6:50 PM. Reason : well looks like Internet doesn't know "tarpaulin" = slang for "sailor"]
10/29/2012 6:45:55 PM
that crew member they pulled (Claudene Christian) is dead
10/29/2012 8:50:50 PM
The Captain is still missing, however since they did not find him during daylight, and he is in his 60s and someone in their 40s did not make it, there is probably not much hope that he survived either. Either way the coast guard did a hell of a job rescuing them at the height of the storm.

The bounty claimed its booty

The Bounty has appeared in many films and documentaries, including Treasure Island, Yellowbeard, Sponge Bob Square Pants, the Movie, and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest.

So any news on what lead up to this? I mean, hurricanes don't sneak up on you...
10/31/2012 9:26:22 AM
The owner thought it would be safer riding out the storm at sea instead of getting tossed onshore during a big storm surge. They lost the boat, but who knows what would have happened if it had been moored somewhere near shore when the storm hit. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that shit.

They shut down the Bounty Facebook page due to general douchebaggery in the comments, but left a lot of the stuff leading up to it, including some of the captains last posts. The Coast Guard has suspended the search for the captain. He is presumed lost at sea now I guess. There will surely be a movie made about this one day. This was a historic ship, my guess is the captain was not about to see this ship he loved get smashed to bits along the coast, and thought he could travel around the storm. The problem was this was a wooden ship, that is not really sealed up to keep water out, probably not built for speed either since it was a replica of an old sail ship. Once they figured out they were screwed they could not get out of the way. Seems like he would have been much better off heading straight south and waiting until the storm had passed completely, but it wont matter now, the ship is lost, a crew member is dead, and the captain is lost at sea. Here is the FB page.http://www.facebook.com/HMSBounty?fref=ts

I think my first instict would have been to just sail out into the middle of the atlantic away from the coast
11/1/2012 9:58:16 PM
Should have gone to Florida. That was the ships home port anyway.

Maybe it was like The Hunt for Red October and the captain told everyone that he was going to scuttle the ship to hide his defection.
11/1/2012 11:14:56 PM
sounds like the most logical hypothesis.

It tells the story a little more in detail and has some brief interviews with the crew. From what I've heard, failing bilge pumps ultimately led to the ships demise
