Lol. I am seeing things about a subscription? Perhaps this is a little different than I thought...doesn't the video files save on my PC?

Thinking a peephole camera would be more discreet and less problematic with apartment office ppl, ring makes one of the.

With ring, no subscription, you can see through the doorbell camera with the app. You can talk through it as well. With the subscription, it saves your videos, which you can download if need be.

It saves them directly to the CCP servers.

^^not possible to save videos without subscription? I only ask cause being able to see/talk in real time seems nice, but what if a few days pass and you realize you need to review something? Just SOL?

$60/year subscription. Or you can use a screen recording app on your phone but you have to manually be watching I guess.

Or try another brand like eufy/reolink/unifi which apparently don't require subscriptions, per reddit.

Or just tell Phill to stop stealing your MAGA shoes Grainger boxes

eufy stuff lets you record locally to an SD card or to a hard drive and has no subscription. There are much more involved solutions that have no subscription and everything is local like unifi. I prefer the latter

Thanks. Now reversibility and removability are key. Reversible for if/when i move from my apartment, removable so like some jerk neighbor can't yank the shit off the door.

check out Blue Iris and use whatever cheap chinese wifi cameras you want

I suggest putting them on a vLAN or some kind of IoT network that's separate from the rest of your network

There is a slickdeal for a blink camera and some sync 2 thing that allows for local storage, got that. For 28, won't be bummed if it sucks

I read a rumor on reddit that ICE is using deauth tools to disable wifi cameras before harassing people in their homes.

Highly recommend the doorbell camera i got. I was able to text apt manager in realtime when they came in and changed my hvac filter after replying that I didn't need it. Hell i just caught maint trying to come into my apt thursday today while reviewing footage. I think they went to the wrong door

Illegal for local LEO, but the FCC gives a few exceptions to federal and military agencies. This was a test question on my HAM radio test. It's not surprising to me that ICE would do this; house burglars are already known to jam wifi doorbells. You really want to run ethernet, which is really convenient for power, too. Doorbells are really like part of the house though, is your landlord cool with this?

This is the doorbell I have. You'll need a Ubiquiti router, but if you don't have one, you'll want one anyway for so many reasons that you aren't aware of yet.

It's PoE so it won't be jammed and you don't have battery to watch and change every two months. There are no subscription fees. All of the recordings are also kept locally on my router's hard drive, which I can upgrade or swap out if I really wanted to keep them longer.

I don't have a Ubiquiti router but I'm cautious of them because I heard their admin menus require internet access and I'm... not an optimist

but my networking buddy at Cisco loves his

is it for vLAN?

I've got a DSTIKE Deauther watch that I use for testing and research
