Give me Gainey.

I don’t pretend to know who the best candidate actually is. But I like the risk/reward of hiring Gainey. There will always be some hot shot mid major that might or might not actually work out that we can hire. This is a chance to hire an alum with a good coaching reputation even if he is inexperienced at the HC level. If Gainey goes elsewhere and has success we might not get a chance to hire him again. Lock him up now. If he doesn’t work out then it’s not different than any other coach we’ve had in the last 40 years.

I’m sold on Schertz, but Gainey wouldn’t be a bad option B.

If Gainey doesn't take it I will gladly quit my job to help the team out.

"To win more games in the 2026/2027 season, the NC State men's basketball team must navigate a significant transition following the recent departure of Head Coach Will Wade, who stepped down in March 2026 after just one season. The program's path to success will center on finding a stable new leader and capitalizing on a strong incoming talent pool.

1. Secure a Long-Term Coaching Identity
The most critical factor for the 2026/2027 season is the hiring of a permanent head coach to replace Will Wade.
Establish Stability: After firing Kevin Keatts in 2025 and then losing Wade a year later, the program needs a coach who can commit to a multi-year rebuild.
Retain the Current Staff: Maintaining assistants like Adam Howard or Brandon Chambers could help preserve existing recruiting relationships if the new hire allows it.

2. Retain and Develop the 2025/2026 Core
The 2026/2027 roster will depend heavily on the development of players who were freshmen and sophomores during the previous season.
Key Returners: The team will look for significant growth from players like Paul McNeil, Jr. (who will be a junior) and Matt Able (sophomore).
Frontcourt Stability: Developing young forwards like Musa Sagnia and Zymicah Wilkins will be essential to improving the team's rebounding and interior defense.

3. Successfully Integrate the 2026 Recruiting Class
Despite the coaching change, the program has several high-profile commitments and targets for the 2026 class that could provide an immediate boost.
Elite Talent: Four-star small forward Cole Cloer and four-star center Trevon Carter-Givens are already committed for the 2026 cycle.
High-Priority Targets: Landing a top-tier point guard like five-star Deron Rippey Jr., who named NC State in his top five, would be a game-changer for the 2026/2027 backcourt.

4. Strategic Use of the Transfer Portal
With approximately 2,000 players expected to enter the portal in 2026, the new coaching staff must prioritize veteran experience."

Inspiring, especially in light of no one else stepping up...
