I actually support most of the stuff they demanded as part of their concessions, if it could be divorced from the villainous cast of characters behind it. (the main thing I don't support is increasing their committee representation, which is due to who they are).

I just think that these particular characters are traitorous douchebag morons and are far more likely to do vastly more harm than good, having been given this leverage.

Seriously. I wouldn't mind not having all of these massive 80k page pieces of legislation floating around, or the speaker determining every little fat that happens on the floor. But letting these assholes in on that?

With regard to the House Republicans voting to rescind the recent IRS funding or at some point implementing the Holman rule, those would both require passage in the Senate, right?

Similarly, if House Republicans demand that any increase to the debt ceiling be offset by cuts to Medicare and Social Security, there's no alternative resolution, is there?

We're either going to cut spending for those programs or default on our debt?

Defaulting will be a lot of fun for retirement plan participants. Democrats should have gotten rid of the debt ceiling when they had control or kicked the can WAY down the road. Get ready for some economic brinksmanship that probably at best ends up with another credit rating downgrade. I hope I'm wrong.

You mean was? That pic is from 2008. I have done many things in the past I regret doing and hate myself for doing them, JUST LIKE ANY HUMAN BEING.

Are there any recent pics of him in drag?

He is a shitty human, period. His pics from 0.15 centuries ago showing him doing things that he deplores now is meaningless. (unless he is still secretly like that)

I try not to overthink it; he's not worth it. He doesn't deserve the benefit of any doubt at this point.

Isn’t the current Republican Party position that any and all drag is solely for the purpose of grooming young children for sexual exploitation? He should be asked if indeed he used to be into grooming children for sexual exploitation

Well to be fair choosing your side based on their color is perfectly alright
although some argue choosing the GOP cause of the color red makes you a R.I.N.O

on a serious note, I have no clue about this particular State Senator's influence, but you can't always take a bill introduced in a State Legislature, or hell even the House, seriously. All kinds of random BS is done by all kinds of state legislators, you'd be surprised

I wonder why they expelled anyone for it.

I mean, my politics don't align with theirs, and certainly not on the issue of gun control, but that's bullshit to expel them for this. Censure or something, maybe, but not expel.

^^ actually these fuckers are calling the ones they expelled "insurrectionists" and saying that it's as bad or worse than Jan 6th.

Like, I'm not a big fan of gun control or Congressmen acting the fool, but (a) this is orders of magnitude less than Jan 6th, (b), I'll bet that these TN Republicans defend the Jan 6th offenders while attacking the 3 TN Dems, and (c), as much as I loathe Democrats, it's the GOP who leads the way in acting the fool.

Yeah, it is sad how the GOP basically has no policy left so they've resorted to just a BS culture war
I wonder what the long term strategy of this is cause I don't see any

and these expulsions are absolutely disgusting
those on the fence will either be forced further into it or pushed out

I too say this as someone who also doesn't align with the dem line on guns

culture war, and bullshit maneuvering like these expulsions, or voter suppression, etc.

I mean, I think most people are profoundly ignorant morons and due to that, shouldn't vote...but I also don't think voting should be impeded in a weaponized, partisan way.

Could be neither; could be as simple as politicians needing attention. Each of these defectors gets news coverage where normally they'd be invisible.

A grand GOP plot isn't out of the realm of possibility, but I'm not sure what the endgame is. It'd also be hard to keep a scheme like that secret across multiple states.

To the first part, sure. I see the obvious upside in getting individual democrats to switch, particularly when it grants supermajorities. But I have a harder time seeing the advantage in coordinating these switches so they happen around the same time. Maybe if you were going to build some big "People are leaving the Democrats in droves!" PR campaign like they tried a couple of years ago, but it didn't work then, and they don't seem to be doing it now.

The second part, maybe. No doubt the GOP enticed them with something - the possibility of a redrawn, friendly district, or a position in a hypothetical GOP administration, or just some cushy private sector job. I bet we see at least one of these three elected, either in a redrawn district or just a new one.

Quote :

Let's not sit here and act like the Democrats are better. Everyone is doing what they think they have to do to gain an edge in the next election. If anything, the Republicans are more farsighted, at least on strategy; they were playing statehouse and court chess while Democrats were playing...I don't know, some kind of dumb ass checkers.

The only political entities in this country that might think beyond the next cycle or two are on the far left, and we can see what that gets them. Say what you will about a communist, but at least they're playing the long game.

As someone who has transitioned into being a full-on pinko over the past few years, I admit it gives me a certain relief to realize that my dreams are likely a generation or more away from being close to reality. It means there's way less pressure than I felt as a Republican, whose nightmare vision might be realized any day, if we just kept working at it.

I’m talking more about policy, i.e. the dismantling of regulations, refusal to invest in infrastructure, ignoring the catastrophe that is climate change, etc…

that’s all connected, of course, but the Right only cares about short term profits and could give a shit about long term harm
