I don’t really care what KenPom or NET says. This isn’t a top 25-30 team. We’re fine when shots are falling. But we fold in the face of any adversity. Poor shooting game? Guess we’ll just shit our pants on defense too. Other team hits some open shots and builds an early lead? Too bad maybe we’ll do better next game. Not trying to make this any kind of referendum on Wade as a coach, but I think it’s clear that the roster construction isn’t ideal. Players aren’t doing what they were brought in to do. Ultimately that falls on the staff. I think it’s just a risk you run when you bring in an entirely new roster in the offseason. I generally like Wade’s fire but the blowing up in every post game is getting old. It’s the staff’s job to light a fire under these guys and he’s failing at it.

This is dog shit. Getting outplayed in every aspect of the game including effort and giving a shit.

It’s January. Conference play has started. This is a home game vs a ranked opponent. If you’re coming out flat in this game and this point in the season, then it’s just not gonna happen. Maybe we make the tourney. Maybe we win a few big games the rest of the way. I’m not saying we’re gonna go winless or anything. But the red reckoning, new era, please take us seriously bullshit is over and it was all a joke.

DW is slumping obviously and he didn’t shoot well today. I thought he actually played ok. Not great but made a couple plays and didn’t seem like a massive negative out there.

We’re basically living and dying by Copeland right now. And he’s been way better than I expected. But we aren’t gonna go very far when Q has to do it all.

I think Holloman being more of a combo/shooting guard and not a traditional PG hurts us. I didn’t know much about Holloman coming from MSU, but I just expected him to be more of a distributor and passer and that’s not really what he’s done. and it forces Q to play all his minutes as the PG and against some opponents it just doesn’t work and the offense is a disaster. I like Q just fine. But I don’t like him as the best player/bus driver of a team that was supposed to be a top 25 team.

The most disappointing thing to me is that this team does not play the style of basketball I expected to see. Maybe I was sold a bill of goods or just bought into the hype. But I expected a team that played with intensity and energy on both ends of the court, but especially defensively. I expected a team that might be able to ugly games up and make things difficult for the opponent even when our shots weren’t falling. We do ugly things up by playing like dog shit but that’s not really what I was going for. I expected them to have an edge and play with a chip on the shoulder. I absolutely did not expect this soft ass team that can’t put 40 minutes of good effort together on a regular basis.

As was the case with any previous State coach of any sport, i can generally put up with lack of skill if there is effort. You can live with and at least get invested in a team that tries hard and just kinda sucks. But a team that doesn’t live up to its potential and can’t consistently put forth real effort….youll lose me quickly with that.

Next game is at BC and it’s 9pm tip. Fuck staying up late for that shit.
