VERY GOOD! You know what's EVEN THICKER? My DSLR! Unfortunately, I didn't realize that that's a bad thing. I will get rid of it immediately. Shit man, I have lenses that are longer, thicker, & heavier than a tablet. Just because this thing is not your normal camera size doesn't mean that it's difficult to use. I'm sorry that you apparently don't have opposable thumbs but most people would have no problem holding a small notebook up and pressing a small square on it. It's just one of those weird evolution things.

Look, I didn't design the damn thing and I didn't put the rotating camera on it. If you have that big a problem with it being on there, take it up with the designer. In the meantime, I'm going to realize that while you don't find much use for it, I do and a lot of other people would too. Ok pumpkin? Good. You have a good night now.

You stupid son of a bitch, they aren't anywhere near the size of an iPad. They are 2mm THICKER because they have to fit a screen, battery, storage and electronics BEHIND the sensor. The iPad doesn't have to deal with those same chassis constraints for a camera.

You obviously aren't intelligent enough to get that OTHER THINGS exist in a chassis besides a sensor. And that different form factors have different sets of those things.

If needed, i can draw a picture with crayons for you to explain it. Have you ever actually SEEN a CCD? Have you ever seen the internals of a camera?

what the fuck pedantic shit are you talking about? Who said anything about the iPad taking better pictures than a camera.

the point here that you are backpedaling from like a digital Usain Bolt, is whether a device like the iPad (or a cell phone) COULD have a camera-quality CCD in it, and could then take camera-quality photos and video.

and the answer is that YES, they can. The reason they don't is not a technical limitation, but a market one. The cost for putting that kind of hardware in a device like this is not a consumer demand, and would have no appreciable impact on device sales, so they don't do it.

so stop spewing your misinformed retarded bullshit and pick another battle.

^ please...make a list of how i've been backpedaling...my point is that it's not realistic to put one in there...for engineering reasons AS WELL AS marketing ones (i've mentioned both)

but really, Noen, keep trying...we all know how you know everything about everything...i, for one, am surprised i learn to shit by myself without you there to explain how

This was your original point:

Quote :
"they don't put "real" camera sensors in these things because they're comparatively huge...MY point (which you've refused to understand, likely because you don't actually know what the fuck you're talking about) is that this not only doesn't have a sensor large enough to cram 8mp on, it doesn't even have a QUALITY sensor because there's quite likely not enough space...and if there IS enough space, it's hardly cost effective because it's only you and four other people on the planet that give's a rat's ass about taking quality 8mp pictures with a damn tablet..."

The first part of which is what I am responding to. You're wrong on pretty much every account in your technical assessment. The second part I completely agree with , but somehow you lost that in the sequence of babbling posts you made after that one.

I never really thought much into e-books for myself but after watching the iBooks guided tour I might actually use that.

I don't know what other e-book readers do in terms of functionality but i thought it was pretty neat that you can look up words in the dictionary without ever leaving the page just by highlighting them.

Search for any word throughout the entire book

Also a new feature that didn't exist in the iphone/ipod touch, you can adjust brightness inside the iBooks app without ever leaving the page. Not sure what other apps let you do this though.

Stanza does all of those things. Touch and hold any word to pull it up in the dictionary. You can search for a word in any book in your library, not just the one you're reading, and dragging up and down the page adjusts the brightness.

I still don't see how you can type on this thing without it sitting in your lap. Are you really going to lay it down flat to type (then the screen angle will be off), can you really type on this thing standing up holding it with one hand? It's just a giant phone interface. I think the one thing that could make this better is an app like Swype for the iPad

i think they're on the right track, though. it needs a tremendous amount of polish, but that's the sort of thing i'd like to use... let me type most of my content, and graphically annotate only when i need to. but i'd like to see embeddable items from elsewhere... make it a living document.

come to think of it, if done properly, Google Wave could be the killer app for the iPad.

yeah, just like the rumor about the iPod and FM radio, which also eventually happened.

Apple has never been a company to lump a feature on in a me-too fashion. They could have stuck a camera on the front for a while now, but it would have been very in-elegant in a variety of ways.

Considering their recent patent on behind-the-screen cameras, and that good quality cameras are getting small enough, we are approaching a time when the technology can be integrated in an "elegant" apple-like fashion.

It may take for them to switch to OLED screens first though, which i don't see happening sooner than a year.

Also, Pogue's 2-part review is up: one for "techies" and "normal" people...

Yeah, I imagine it really pisses off Steve Jobs that when you video chat with someone, even with a camera mounted right at the top of the screen, it still doesn't look like you have eye contact with someone. A behind screen camera, even expensive and lower quality than current above screen cameras would be, IMO, more apple's style.

This should go into the overuse of technology category. If, to play scrabble, each of you need an iphone, with the scrabble app, and the ipad, as the board, I suggest you probably should use a REAL SCRABBLE BOARD.
