2as in who's gonna be the number 2 receiver to start the year?Does Jarrett get it from the start?Or Colbert or CarterI guess that's for Spartanburg to decide
5/1/2007 5:42:30 PM
i think it's about time to tell Colbert to burn the road up
5/1/2007 5:42:54 PM
carter had some nice catches last year but i'll be danged if he didn't have lead hands a good portion of the time
5/1/2007 5:45:09 PM
I figured they would cut garbage ass Keary Colbert, we had one too many recievers once we took Robinson as a return man.gg Meshawn [Edited on May 1, 2007 at 5:47 PM. Reason : .]
5/1/2007 5:46:30 PM
Someone on PP said it was b/c Keyshawn refused to take the blame for bad throws by Jake the snake that resulted in interceptions. Jake Delhome sucked before Keyshawn got there, and you need 3 good receivers these days. We now have 1 and a rookie. What the fuck.
5/1/2007 5:52:40 PM
I dont know why they didnt trade him for a safetyodd
5/1/2007 6:00:48 PM
if anyone honestly thinks he was dropped because he didnt take blame for incompletions....
5/1/2007 6:06:08 PM
he was probably cut for running a shitty route leading to the INT at the end of the Bengals game and then for running the fade route against Philly like a little bitch and letting that pass get picked off too..."give me the damn ball" except if its my slack ass that could prevent the INT, i wont do it because i'm the mangood riddance
5/1/2007 6:10:50 PM
Haha "good riddance" was exactly what i was gonna post here.Ive always hated this guy and was forced to attempt to cheer for him last year. And then he sucked balls for us.He wont be missed. How the hell can any of you hate on Vick and TO so much and then love this pompous jackass who isnt half the player that either of them are
5/1/2007 6:55:56 PM
i wouldn't say he is as bad as TOand i wouldn't try to compare him to vicki agree with the "let's get younger" mentality... but i think something is gonna have to be done with Delhomme to help this all progress (my thoughts, have him go the kurt warner path)
5/1/2007 6:58:52 PM
^^good point, but he's way better than the 3rd best receiver on the team and rarely drops passes that hit him in the hands. Basically, I wouldnt be upset about this if we had another option, but we dont, so fuck!
5/1/2007 7:29:00 PM
5/1/2007 7:36:18 PM
Plus when you trade a player Im pretty sure you have to absorb the entire cap hit THAT season. That was the whoel reason we cut him for cap purposes. But I am agreeing with you ^ there was no market for Keyshawn. He'll get picked up on a small one year deal by someone looking to fill a void.(i realize he might sign a "long-term" deal kinda like reggie white did for cap purposes, but for all intents & purposes it will be a 1 or perhaps 2 year deal)
5/1/2007 7:39:16 PM
yep I'm thinking money had pretty much NOTHING to do with this move. there had to have been some kind of internal dispute, etc. between keyshawn and the staff i just hope jarrett can mature fast, keep his head on straight, and kick some ass next year without him
5/1/2007 7:43:19 PM
Knowing the kind of player Keyshawn is he will sign with Atlanta to prove a point. Mark my words thats where he will end up, they need receivers anyways.
5/1/2007 7:51:24 PM
haha, yeah he prolly willhe and Joe Horn are both spiteful like that
5/1/2007 8:50:50 PM
I think Keyshawn can actually catch, too. Unlike VJ
5/1/2007 9:33:36 PM
5/1/2007 9:34:33 PM
oops maybe keyshawn shouldn't have spent all saturday telling the world about his retirement plans
5/1/2007 10:41:51 PM
oddI hope Jarrett is what they think he'll be.
5/1/2007 11:16:02 PM
seems like a pretty shitty move to me but what do I knowif jarett isnt what hes cracked up to be or there is an injury delhomme will suck even more, and who cares about having enough receivers already, we only know one of them to be good at this point plus colbert fucking blows, why was he not cut
5/1/2007 11:19:00 PM
i expected us to cut keary and have jarrett and drew carter play #3/4...i think theres definitely reasons behind cutting Key, some we probably dont know about and wont know.im not comfortable starting a rookie as a #3 but we'll see what happens...he might have to do his learning on the field.smitty played as a rookie...scored a TD 1st time he ever touched the ball... in fox i trust
5/1/2007 11:27:56 PM
^ who is gonna play #2??
5/1/2007 11:56:04 PM
i think this is really suckyhonestly though...if i were keyshawn i woulda wanted to leave after last year
5/2/2007 12:06:21 AM
5/2/2007 2:11:27 AM
Guys, we are completely fine at receiverKeyshawn is a mouth, too old, and didnt do that much for us in the first placethis is not going to hurt us in the least
5/2/2007 9:33:12 AM
This is why I hate the Panther Office and Coaching Staff. Johnson was still a reliable receiver for 3rd downs. It's not like he was taking a large part of the money. Johnson already had said this would be his last season, they could have used him to mentor and teach Jarret... III
5/2/2007 3:05:30 PM
^agree
5/2/2007 3:33:02 PM
5/2/2007 3:40:18 PM
probably the attitude problems that a lot of the skeptics brought up before he even signed last yearmost panthers fans (myself included) were like "nah, he's grown up past that bullshit, he just wants to be a role player, and try to get another superbowl ring"but he doesnt get the ball, or he misses balls he should catch, and he puts the blame off...not happenin keyshawn...key you know damn well you fucked up in the bengals game running your top side route as well as your shitty fade against a d-back 6" shorter than you in the philly game...which wouldve been ok if you could fucking admit itJake + Smitty + The Fox >>>>>>>>>> Keyshawn
5/2/2007 3:48:11 PM
Seems like we'll never get it right. Keys did win some games for us and helped free up Stevie when he was in the double d coverage. You better hope Jarret can step up and become a fast learner. Or else we'll be in trouble again.
5/2/2007 3:51:26 PM
5/2/2007 3:51:42 PM
5/2/2007 3:52:39 PM
so now we're throwing keyshawn under the bus to defend the guy that threw us out of the playoffs last yearthats just great
5/2/2007 4:38:11 PM
we arent the ones that threw him under the bushe's already under it. the panthers are an organization that fans actually like to defend moves, unlike a lot of other organizations
5/2/2007 4:43:35 PM
5/2/2007 5:03:00 PM
man....keyshawn was money....they just didnt throw to him enough..this is BS
5/2/2007 5:03:48 PM
man...keyshawn was money....5 years before we signed himi liked the guy last year...he was money as hell in the 1st quarter of the preseason games i went to...he was money in the tampa game when he had something to prove...other than that he wasnt all that...in hindsight i'd take muhammad last year over keyshawn last year any day of the week[Edited on May 2, 2007 at 5:08 PM. Reason : .]
5/2/2007 5:04:51 PM
I think its the fact that he could teach Jarrett some "tips and tricks" of a big wide receiver more than just missing his talent. Steve Smith, although stellar, can't teach him how to use that big body the same way.
5/2/2007 5:19:47 PM
^Agreed....I in no way was saying or trying to imply that Keys was great or our go to receiver. I was saying that he contributed in ways that are not measurable. Blocking, drawing a defender away, bringing extra attention on where he was positioned, and he can teach the younger receivers. The Panthers Organization never seems to get the off season right....Maybe I am wrong but I do not see Jarret (sp??) coming in and being a dependable #2 receiver out the gate. I would love it, but I am pretty damn sure that is not going to happen. Give Jake some weapons to help him out...Hell if Carr plays, he still going to need more than our only option Smith.... III
5/2/2007 8:26:39 PM
Colbert was good his rookie year then he got injured and he hasnt been the same sinceJarrett has more size and hence should have better posession receiver abilities than Colbertand hopefully Carter will continue to progress as he showed lots of potential last yearalso I heard an interview this morning with Ryne Robinson (the punt return draft pick we got)...sounded like not only did he get 91 catches last year but he lined up wide, slot, backfield, wherever...i think he could potentially be a nice piece of the offense if Jeff Davidson works out well...the new offense (and coordinator) is gonna be pivotal in our overall success this year
5/2/2007 9:17:10 PM
don't underestimate Ryne Robinson, he could be the next Steve Smith. I called it first.
5/2/2007 9:23:30 PM
I as a die hard panther fan am pissed about this. I remember when jarrett said he was coming out that key was one of the ones who really stated he shouldn't...then we drafted him and now key i gone. glad i didn't buy his jersey last year....
5/3/2007 12:55:38 AM
spent to much time commentating on the draft.
5/3/2007 1:10:52 AM
for the record, the whole "mentor" thing is over exaggerated bullshit. i mean come on, guys that are players are gonna show they are with or without extra guidance from an "elder".
5/3/2007 1:53:08 AM
Certain people get an edge in the pros b/c they know something others don't. Everyone in the league is talented, some just know the tricks.Jarrett will develop but the time to do so will be longer w/o Key.[Edited on May 3, 2007 at 2:44 AM. Reason : .]
5/3/2007 2:44:04 AM
^^i dont know...remember randy moss with cris carter? as soon as carter retired, moss went downhill. course i think thats mostly due to moss bein a nutjob, but still
5/3/2007 6:30:35 AM
Mentoring is a big part of the NFL...alot of older players play and teach the younger players on there team. Its called experience, whether they do it on purpose or whether they do it in practice/film only-it is still done. III
5/3/2007 8:29:34 AM
im pretty sure i know what goes on in the locker rooms because i do watch football every sunday.
5/3/2007 8:38:44 AM
^x7 I think most every fan, when Ryne Robinson(4th round) was drafted, said he could be the next Steve Smith(3rd round). He is shorter and fast so it's a natural assumption
