to reiterate on pg 2and jackleg, most people dont have the tools to remove viruses from the BIOS. Viruses are near impossible to remove/and or clean, especially when in windows. They dont sell those tools in stores. Geek Squad does have them. So if a client has a virus but doesnt want to restore their OS, we can and will remove the virus for them.

9/24/2007 11:27:40 AM
Where's that video where they installed a program that recorded everything the geek squad did while "fixing" a customers computer and it caught them red-handed going thru all the customers shit?
9/24/2007 11:27:51 AM
hereIt wasn't even for 'fixing' - it was to install itunes.[Edited on September 24, 2007 at 11:29 AM. Reason : lkd]

im terribly sorry that best buys geek squad is a group of TRAINED SCRIPT KIDDIES that use prepackaged tools to remove things to the best ability of THE TOOLbut i really dont need to defend what i do when i have people scurrying down to best buy to get their computers out of the geek room, now do i? then again, sysinternals is about as "over my head technically" as i get...
9/24/2007 11:29:40 AM
they do have people do random checks in geek squad about every other week to make sure agents arent doing any unauthorized work...i.e. going through clients files
9/24/2007 11:30:04 AM
agents
9/24/2007 11:30:59 AM
somebody embed the secret agent man song
9/24/2007 11:31:48 AM
...implemented after that video was released. Like so, naturally.[Edited on September 24, 2007 at 11:32 AM. Reason : fixing things = not sucking so fucking hard]
9/24/2007 11:32:11 AM
also, how do the AGENTS feel about getting paid MAYBE 10 bucks an hour to make best buy 150 an hour? seriously, how can you defend this nonsense?

ok i cant speak on behalf of all geek squad employees. I know our store wasnt involved in invading peoples privacy. There are shady people everywhere. So, sorry that happened. i've also heard other horror stories, and our managers stress the importance of following procedure and respecting privacy. But there are always those assholes who will never listen. We keep them out of our store though.

9/24/2007 11:37:12 AM
im more worried about the morons than the shady ones.at least the shady employees hopefully know enough to fix the problem before rummaging around.the morons, who knows
9/24/2007 11:38:14 AM
i've posted about this before - the amount of loyalty some people have to employers like best buy - where the employee makes a very small amount of money while the employer is getting rich off of them - it's not like best buy is a career at the geek squad "agent" level and the employee is somewhat invested in the success of the companysweettreats is one of those idiots ]]
9/24/2007 11:39:16 AM
once again I DO NOT WORK FOR BEST BUY
9/24/2007 11:40:32 AM
calm down, just wondering. i couldnt tell cause it seemed like you said we do this and that, instead of we did this and that.
9/24/2007 11:44:04 AM
i'd really like to see the geek squad find 2 oozed out capacitors inside a power supply with their "tools" that us normal folks dont have access to then id like to see them charge the customer 35 bucks plus the cost of a new power supply. total.

9/24/2007 12:00:36 PM
im telling you guys, they also charge (my last sidejob told me) 65 bucks just to come out, or to diagnose. so add 65 to anything you listed
9/24/2007 12:02:13 PM
to any bestbuy geek squad people:i have an opening at my job. depending on experience, you'll be making at least 17.50 hourly (up to 25) just doing inventory on computer parts in an office environment. job title is IT ASSISTANT. its like being the secretary for the IT guy. simple work, no bestbuy. pm me for resume address
9/24/2007 12:04:59 PM
ibts
9/24/2007 12:10:08 PM
got a couple pmS, i forgot to mention that this job is in greensboro NC. you would likely not see very much of me because i am in a different department and have NO DIRECT INPUT over whether or not you get hired. just have enough respect in that department to get resumes in.
9/24/2007 12:16:25 PM
best buy actually bought the whole "idea" of "geek squad" from some guy. He had his employees dress up and not look like shaggy nerds. Needless to say he sold it.

^there isn't a policy out there that says "if your computer is in need of repairs we'll gladly send it in for service and replace any parts for free, including labor and shipping." Sorry but there just isn't. And the ones that do have that are for major appliances NOT everything in your home.[Edited on September 24, 2007 at 1:43 PM. Reason : fda]

Did you read where I talked about the valuable personal property endorsement? Now, I know that USAA is a generous company, and completely awesome in every respect...but lots of folks use USAA. If I could vouch for the CC warranty stuff, I would. Not having first-hand experience, I won't.
9/24/2007 1:48:49 PM
^yes it does. It covers battery replacement, because we all know batteries won't hold the same charge after 500 cycles as it did after the first cycle. It covers power surges, (now accidental although thats at an additional charge). If its a video camera it covers cleaning etc...What it doesn't cover is software. So don't be a dumbass and download a bunch of spyware infected porn.

You're awfully passionate about saying good things about a retailer that is terrible. I'm calling a spade a spade.
9/24/2007 1:55:10 PM
hmm...i've lost track of which thread I was posting in, but in the other thread I guess in tech talk I was very negative towards best buy sales people. (same user, same thread, different section)^i'm just well informed and have good experience as a customer with service plans. Always buy them on laptop's and tv's, and cameras. As far as consoles go, the manufactures warranty is stellar. Same applies to apple products. Never once had to buy apple care because their manufactures warranty was excellent.[Edited on September 24, 2007 at 2:04 PM. Reason : fda]
