Correction, $5.5 million. Like I said, chump change.
http://www.insideline.com/dodge/viper/michigan-garlic-bread-king-makes-55-million-bid-for-dodge-viper-brand.html

Looks like the Viper is still chrysler trash though. Shame none of the ferrari parts made their way into it.

^Interesting. I never knew that. But when a brand is facing bankruptcy things like this need to be considered. Really not that crazy.

I for one am glad that there is nothing from Ferrari in the Viper. If there was it would be a more fragile, heavier and less track worthy car. Also of note, you might be interesting to know that Ferrari borrows suspension technology from GM for several of their cars.

Yeah, I would argue that GM has massive engineering capability. The problem with the company is everything else about it.

what do ups trucks have for engines? i always thought they sounded pretty good for diesels honestly...

and yeah i know the viper v10 is just an old ass 360 v8 with 2 more cylinders cast on that has now been bored and stroked some.

It's a technological retard compared to damned near everything else, including the LS engines.

Ferrari boss Montezemolo 'Speechless' over 2013 SRT Viper - Marchione

Quote :
"According to Chrysler chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne in an interview on Detroit radio WJR-AM, Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo was "speechless" after getting a close look at the 2013 SRT Viper.

"I had the chairman of Ferrari down here for the board meeting last week and he had a chance to look at the car, and he was speechless. I mean, for Ferrari to admit that the car is a unique vehicle is a hell of a compliment to the work that's gone on here. So I'm delighted. I mean, so far, knock on wood, we're doing well."

Marchionne did not specifically mention di Montezemolo's name, only the person's title, his reference of "speechless" ca have a positive or negative connotation.

Ferrari and Chrysler are both owned by parent company Fiat."

This thing just looks mean and sexy as hell.

there's a significant hump in the track at that point...you just kinda have to pitch it in and keep some throttle on it, and let the suspension do its thing.

i've just never seen that approach. on a bike it'll get you killed. I figured on a car that low it'd be a good way to break an air dam

^^ yeah I would be scared of that on a bike. I was scared the first dozen or two times in a car. It's a significant bump, but I've hit it pretty fast...mid/upper 100-teens, as best as I remember, and once you get the hang of it, it's fine...just keep some throttle applied to keep some weight transferred to the rear.

holy shit... they de-stroke the engine down to 8 liters and still have to limit the redline to 4500 rpm because it makes too much power beyond that.

I read an article . Google it it's seriously going to be limited to just above 4000 rpm. A assumed you found where they settled on 4500.

saw one last weekend at a Chrysler display for an event in Detroit. pics are on my phone, too lazy to upload. They had half a dozen older vipers there as well, including an ACR. This new one just blows them all out of the water in terms of looks and interior refinement.

I haven't driven it, but so far I'd say there really is no comparison between this car and any Viper that's come before it.

^^ that's the street version... keep in mind its power to weight ratio places it out of the class they race in in ALMS.

^ yeah i can't wait to see one in person...

this is the first viper i've ever really had the "MUST HAVE" feeling for

Pricing announced:

Quote :
"Manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2013 SRT Viper model is $97,395 (excluding $1,995 destination)
The SRT Viper offers a blend of extreme performance and to deliver a supercar that continues to bring the driver as close as possible to the machine.

MSRP for the 2013 SRT Viper GTS model is $120,395 (excluding $1,995 destination)
The SRT Viper GTS builds on the DNA of the SRT Viper model with more technologically advanced solutions, like two-mode active suspension, to allow this world-class GTS to find new capabilities on the track while also opening up its envelopes as a more premium and mature evolution of the classic, extreme performance formula.

Under the hood of both models is the all-aluminum, mid-front 8.4-liter V-10 engine that delivers 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, which is the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world.

Both SRT Viper and SRT Viper GTS models offer new interior and exterior designs which incorporates premium materials.
New exterior surfaces with aerodynamically functional details are beautifully integrated into the high-tech carbon fiber and aluminum skin, which helps produce a triple-digit weight reduction and a Viper best power-to-weight ratio. The GTS has a four-mode system– full-on, sport, track, and full-off.

Other features-

The base Viper is a no-frills, no-nonsense car tailored more for traditional Viper clientele. Manual, cloth-trimmed seats are standard, though leather-trimmed manual buckets are optional. Floor mats aren’t standard equipment, but are available at no extra cost. An optional touring package adds niceities like a cupholder insert for the center console, a rear backup camera, and an upgraded touchscreen audio system that provides navigation and Bluetooth phone connectivity.

2013 Viper GTS models gain additional NVH insulation, a 12-speaker audio system in lieu of the base 9-speaker system, standard floor mats, power bucket seats, and Nappa leather applied to virtually every interior surface. GTS models also gain two-mode adjustable Bilstein dampers, along with stability (ESC) programming with four modes (i.e. full on, sport, track, and full off). Also sport mode raises the threshold of system intervention, while track keeps control limits intact but fully turns off the traction control.

Buyers can further dress up their GTS interiors with an optional premium interior package, which adds an Alcantara headliner, “SRT Laguna Premium” leather trim and seating surfaces, and unique interior trim finishes.

Three option packages are available on both the 2013 SRT Viper and the 2013 Viper GTS. The carbon fiber interior package adds interior trim crafted from the composite material, while the matching carbon fiber exterior package applies carbon fiber to the front and rear brake ducts, rear diffuser, and – on the GTS – rear fascia applique. A SRT track package adds slotted, lightweight two-piece brake rotors, ultra-lightweight track wheels, and sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa soft compound rubber.

Production of the iconic supercar will begin at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit – the home for Viper since 1995 – in November 2012.

Dealer orders are expected to begin in mid-November 2012."

I'm not saying I would prefer the Viper to the F12 Berlinetta, but if Dodge can keep the weight of the Viper under 3300 lbs it seems rather shameful to me that the F12 weighs 3800lbs.

3300/640 = 5.15
3800/730 = 5.20

Point, Viper.
