1260 ft/min ascent

SPACEJUMPLIVE
10/14/2012 11:34:12 AM
someone overlay the current position on a map, quick.
10/14/2012 11:34:56 AM
So we are like 90 minutes away from anything exciting happening.
10/14/2012 11:38:37 AM
do i have time to get lunch?
10/14/2012 11:42:19 AM
yeah, the exciting potential that something goes wrong without time to correct has already passed, so now its just boring until altitude. They show his current position updated many times per second in decimal degrees, I wish they had a live map.

http://www.redbullstratos.com/the-mission/drop-zone/Guess the landing spot33.62327603, -104.07533 is my guess[Edited on October 14, 2012 at 11:56 AM. Reason : .]
10/14/2012 11:52:49 AM
Now at over 40,000ft.
10/14/2012 12:07:14 PM
slowing down, back under 100mph
10/14/2012 12:09:36 PM
views from the capsule are amazing.

uh oh, his suit heat not working?
10/14/2012 12:29:34 PM
Did anyone else just lose audio?
10/14/2012 12:31:20 PM
yeah, audio went outwhy is the outside air temp getting warmer I wonderapparently there's a thermosphere, I forgot most of my _____sphere elementary school knowledge[Edited on October 14, 2012 at 12:34 PM. Reason : ]

No heater. SCRUB THE MISSION
10/14/2012 12:35:13 PM
I get that this guy is the record holder, but I would probably want to be talking to someone with better radio communication skills
10/14/2012 12:35:30 PM
O2% showing as 30.8% online. that's high, hope everything in there is intrinsically safe.
10/14/2012 12:37:11 PM
10/14/2012 12:40:01 PM
just 30 miles from the texas border now
10/14/2012 12:41:01 PM
What altitude are they trying to get to for the jump/
10/14/2012 12:42:39 PM
120k?
10/14/2012 12:42:53 PM
i'm relieved the guy aint talking for a few min
10/14/2012 12:43:55 PM
I am guessing he is jumping one way or another at this point. It doesnt seem like this craft has the capability of taking him back down to a safe landing if something goes wrong?
10/14/2012 12:44:05 PM
10/14/2012 12:44:06 PM
Well we are about 27 miles Southeast of my guess, so looks like I'm not winning
10/14/2012 12:46:33 PM
That is capsule O2. He is one independent O2 now
10/14/2012 12:46:36 PM
Felix giving the peace sign earlier on lift off
10/14/2012 12:47:26 PM
why do they have any ballast in the first place? whats the problem with ascending as fast as possible?
10/14/2012 12:49:07 PM
pressurization?
10/14/2012 12:49:57 PM
Less controlled?
10/14/2012 12:50:39 PM
fuck, my feed isn't working.
10/14/2012 12:53:43 PM
^,^^ I was thinking about that.. but he's only ascending at 1200ft/min.... and I would think pressurization would be able to keep up with a WAAAY faster rate of climb. Passenger airplanes climb at 3-5000 ft/min and pressurization keeps up just fine.
10/14/2012 12:53:45 PM
how bad would that suck if he jumps out and goes into orbit
10/14/2012 12:55:33 PM
lol @ that sneeze/cough
10/14/2012 12:59:35 PM
It's on discovery channel too.
10/14/2012 1:04:13 PM
excellent. thanks.but there's still a death delay on the Discovery Channel though, right?[Edited on October 14, 2012 at 1:07 PM. Reason : .]

Balloon getting big!
10/14/2012 1:07:08 PM
Over 100K feet.
10/14/2012 1:18:44 PM
he is jumping from 120k right?
10/14/2012 1:21:28 PM
What are the contingencies for the capsule/balloon once he jumps? Is there a auto-controlled descent programmed or something?[Edited on October 14, 2012 at 1:28 PM. Reason : .]
10/14/2012 1:28:30 PM
I feel like I heard him describe something while I wasn't paying close attention to something that would automatically deploy a parachute, I don't think he was talking about the suit
10/14/2012 1:29:18 PM
If they have a similar set up to the NASA balloon program, the balloon is sliced by some mechanism and the capsule will drop away with a parachute.
10/14/2012 1:31:12 PM
yea there's a chute on the capsule attached under the balloon i think.
10/14/2012 1:31:34 PM
The chute on his suit will deploy automatically at a preset altitude in case he loses consciousness.Joe Kittinger had that happen to him on an early jump when a chord got rapped round his neck during the decent.
10/14/2012 1:34:12 PM
Is this on a delay in case his body explodes?
10/14/2012 1:38:33 PM
looks like it's about leveled off.
10/14/2012 1:42:48 PM
Moving up again
10/14/2012 1:44:43 PM
125k
10/14/2012 1:45:25 PM
Hurry up and jump
10/14/2012 1:45:40 PM
127k
