good god...may they rest in peace as heros.

saudi arabia has renounced bin ladin (bin ladin was an exiled saudi), and said that they refuse to allow him to be affiliated with their country...also said that they would help bring him to justice if they get the chance.
9/13/2001 12:43:40 AM
Hezbollah: "while we oppose US policies, nothing justifies [the atrocity] that has happened in america."syrian leaders sent a personal letter to Bush of condolence, and condemnation of the terrorist attack.
9/13/2001 12:48:31 AM
Rumored that the hijackers possibly had some kind of pass tag that let you have access to restricted areas of Logan Airport.
9/13/2001 12:53:49 AM
Syria just doesn't want to be on the hit list.
9/13/2001 12:55:42 AM
I've just returned...As for the body count. I would imagine that more people than were still in the building died. Do not forget that the entire series of blocks around the two towers is typically full of people. It probably wasn't as dense as usual due to the attacks, but I'm certain that there were many people on the ground in the path of the falling building. I don't think that anyone can make a credible estimate right now. Thanks for keeping this up to date.
9/13/2001 2:45:56 AM
well, assuming that the passengers outnumbered the terrorists (i mean.. why wouldnt they), and assuming the terrorists didnt have guns...it would be great that the passengers finally were able to organize themselves and kick some butt!
9/13/2001 7:17:14 AM
There has been a confirmed arrest in Hamberg, Germany related to this incident.
9/13/2001 10:48:21 AM
The news...1) Pakistan's military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf, has promised full cooperation with the United States in its fight against terrorism. This is key. Pakistan has decent relations with Afghanistan and may be able to excersise some influence.2) US Airspace reopens at 11 am3) Authorities believe that they have recovered a piece of one of the hijackers.4) One of two brothers who had been identified by federal authorities as possible hijackers involved in the terrorist attacks is alive and cooperating with the FBI.

ABC has Bush on the phone now talking to Gulliani and the NY governor (?).says he is coming to NYC tomorrow.[Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:07 AM. Reason : clarification.]

dammit i wish i had a tv here
9/13/2001 11:04:28 AM
they also evacuated LaGuardia a few mins. ago...no word yet on why, could just be a precaution.
9/13/2001 11:05:49 AM
Pakistan is VERY key. They have good relations w/ Afghanistan and are one of the few local countries that recognize the Taliban government...
9/13/2001 11:06:46 AM
Bush says we will give the Pakistani government a chance to cooperate with us.
9/13/2001 11:12:28 AM
they already agreed to help us earlier today...the ones we need to cooperate are the agfhans...
9/13/2001 11:13:39 AM
Bush mentioned that they said they're going to work with us and said that "we'll see what that means."
9/13/2001 11:14:51 AM
Seeing as how it was a military leader from Pakistan that agreed to work with us, I'd say that we are going to receive total cooperation. I'm also happy to see evidence that the rest of the world is working on their own to figure out who did this. The arrest in Germany was taken care of by German police, not the FBI.
9/13/2001 11:18:21 AM
wait a sec, who'd they arrest in Germany?(i have no tv.. gr)

They haven't released a name or any other information. Here's the entirety of what's going on in Germany that they have reported:1) An arrest has been made in Germany, by German police, of a suspect involved in this event.2) A woman has been taken into custody for questioning. The authorities are being very sketchy with details today for good reason. If they reveal their every action to us and broadcast it via the media, then the people involved in this will always be one step ahead of those who are looking to bring them in.
9/13/2001 11:22:17 AM
fuckin' iraqis, they just made a claim on their national news service that american and british planes attacked civilian homes. unbelievable. their propaganda machine is already in full swing, spreading lies to their people. lemme guess, trap and evilbob believes their news service over ours...
9/13/2001 11:27:31 AM
"I say to our enemies: We are coming," said Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona. "God may have mercy on you, but we won't." [Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:28 AM. Reason : yeah]
9/13/2001 11:28:11 AM
Whoa. I'm truly surprised to hear McCain say that. I believe you, btw, but I'm shocked.
9/13/2001 11:29:47 AM
i think his exact words were "May God have mercy on you, because we won't." I think he said it yesterday...
9/13/2001 11:31:01 AM
i'm hearing tons of sirens, wtf is going down on campus this morning, or where ever it is.
9/13/2001 11:32:03 AM
Does Usama Bin Laden qualify as a political leader (in other words, does the no-political-assasination law apply to him)?
9/13/2001 11:36:27 AM
i've wondered the same thing...
9/13/2001 11:37:25 AM
jsquared, are you serious?? they just made a claim on their national news service that american and british ...[Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:38 AM. Reason : .]
9/13/2001 11:37:45 AM
if it does, i'm sure they will "alter" the rule slightly...but i dont think he is technically a political leader...i heard speculation that a German company has put a $10million reward for Osama Bin Ladin, in addition to the FBI's current-but-possibly-growing sum of $5million for information directly leading to his capture...
9/13/2001 11:37:54 AM
confirmed fatalities of Pentagon up to ~190, highest ranked officer killed was a 3-star Army general...
9/13/2001 11:39:07 AM
I'm pretty sure Bin Laden is protected from assassination by the US military. I heard something about Jesse Helmes saying yesterday that he wants to see that rule changed during his lifetime.
9/13/2001 11:40:43 AM
Truthfully, even if the rule applies, we're going after Bin Laden. This will only decide whether or not we do it publicly. The CIA went after Huessein in a failed assasination attempt shortly after the Gulf War. The operatives involved were killed by the Iraqi Republican Guard. This info isn't speculatory either. It's been recently declassified.
9/13/2001 11:41:18 AM
at least 4,763 missing in WTC area...[Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:42 AM. Reason : .]
9/13/2001 11:41:30 AM
Bob Barr from Georgia proposed legislation yesterday to approve US sponsored assassinations.
9/13/2001 11:42:12 AM
Does that have anything to do with the rule being a military regulation and the CIA not being officially part of the militray? (or am I just incorrect)
9/13/2001 11:43:01 AM
Damnit. Another bomb threat in NYC. How inhumane can people be?
9/13/2001 11:43:07 AM
I'm actually not sure about that bart. Maybe Maverick or one of those guys can clear that up for me. I know that our plot on Huessein was done undercover and was classified info though.I think it's worded "state-sponsored assasination," which would make it illegal for any agency funded by the gov't to carry it out. [Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:45 AM. Reason : ps]
9/13/2001 11:44:00 AM
the Bin Laden terrorism group is operating out of 34 countries.
9/13/2001 11:46:17 AM
And I hope we go after every single one of them. I'm not certain how these things work, but hopefully if we take Bin Laden out and form a serious coalition against terrorism, they will disband.
9/13/2001 11:48:09 AM
CNN is now reporting that a significantly large amount of debris from the plane that crashed in Shanksville, PA has been found more than 6 miles away from the original crash site. A bomb?
9/13/2001 11:50:46 AM
What country is Bin-Laden a political leader in? NONE! No country=no leader=law doesn't apply.Cleared in, weapons free/weapons hot.
9/13/2001 11:52:25 AM
another debris field found 6 miles from the PA plane ...
9/13/2001 11:53:53 AM
I think that's the problem. He isn't a political leader. The US can't legally target an individual person. If he was running a country, we could just declare war on that country and go after him.
9/13/2001 11:54:05 AM
welll they said yesterday that the terorists on the plane had said they had a bomb.. maybe they did...
9/13/2001 11:55:12 AM

would make since, b/c they think it was targeting AirForce1
9/13/2001 11:56:02 AM
They believe that the second debris site is where they will find the black box.
9/13/2001 11:56:21 AM
But Bartleby, we can certainly try to ''arrest'' a FUGITIVE FROM THE LAW. And, of course, he might be killed during the "arrest" attempt.[Edited on September 13, 2001 at 11:58 AM. Reason : .]
9/13/2001 11:57:44 AM
yeah, because if he "resists arrest" we might have to "subdue him"
9/13/2001 11:59:16 AM
It's not as simple as just getting an arrest warrant and going to his house to arrest him -- particularly if another country is harboring him.
