^Since moving back to Greenville, my husband likes to joke about 99x because it basically plays all of the same music that we listened to in HS back in the late 90s. But I don't care, I'd rather listen to that than the hair band shit that was on 96Rock.
11/21/2011 7:09:19 PM
radio...lol

Kiss Me Deadly...Jungle Love...All for You...who wouldn't love a station like that? I ask you.
11/21/2011 8:47:50 PM
I heard some Pantera on 100.3 earlier today. I must have missed this station before.

Same type of cost cutting moves that the Traffic Reporting Biz (primarily MetroNetworks/Westwood One Raleigh) went through...when were were aquired from Bill Jennings/Traffic Patrol Broadcasting Metro/WO promised "No Changes"...in good weather we would contract with flying service out of KRDU to take 2 planes up: 1 Ral, 1 Durham plus have reporters out on the road...among them including Bryan Bliss and Robert N. Hill, Dave Alexander, etc...about 3 months in the changes started happening...1 less plane in the air and one less reporter on the road...then the other plane went...then reporters on the road were cut one by one...I was having to guess traffic situations by what I heard over the scanners with no verification from eyes on scene...I could see the writing on the wall and left at end of 2003...long story short, Metro closed up their Ral bureau and now does "local" traffic reports out of state...to be fair to Curtis they still have their Traffic Reporting division (which some of my crew joined after getting shitcanned)....but they don't get paid anything...FM radio is doing the same thing with voicetracking & using out of state DJs for multiple stations...I used to love the business and part of me still does but the game ain't the same mang
11/21/2011 9:24:33 PM
If nothing else in my almost 4 years of traffic reporting/radio broadcasting I might have the distinction of being the only guy ever to say "Goddamn" during a traffic report (on accident) on a Christian Station and not get fired...ironically it was a Curtis station...an AM station at that...long story tl,dr but I might share with those interested
11/21/2011 9:30:24 PM
It drives me crazy when commuting and they provide absolute shit traffic reporting. It's like, "Gee thanks, I probably could have gleaned more information from Beat the Traffic app." I want real DJs and real traffic reporters kthx
11/21/2011 9:30:27 PM
I wish SiriusXM would fire all of their DJs and just play music. They kept some of the dumbest morning programs when they merged the two companies.
11/21/2011 10:12:35 PM
I have yet to find a radio station on satellite or local that even comes close to Rock92 out of Asheboro/Randleman area.[Edited on November 21, 2011 at 10:22 PM. Reason : OH SNAP IT'S BACK ONLINE. 'bout time they started streaming again.]

^^ Great stationI remember when they were "Classic Rock 92" and when they changed formats into "Rock 92"another reason Charlotte is better than Raleigh, an amazing selection of radio stations
11/21/2011 10:34:11 PM
I actually don't mind the change yet. I was actually able to ride to work and home without hearing Nirvana, Alice in Chains, or Stone Temple Pilots. That was kind of refreshing.
11/21/2011 10:40:15 PM
i thought 96 rock mornings was just the right mix of mostly music with random local commentary thrown in.96 rock is dead. 101.5 AND 100.7 playing Christmas music. Raleigh radio sucks
11/21/2011 11:13:51 PM
so they are still on the 80s? probably the worst decade of music ever fucking made, and you want that to be the first thing people hear when you change? try playing newer shit, with good old rock every now and then. and not just AC/DC and Mr Brownstone.
11/22/2011 12:00:34 AM
80s was definitely the best[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 1:31 AM. Reason : 00s were the worst]
11/22/2011 1:31:11 AM
10s were definitely the best.
11/22/2011 1:31:44 AM
I remember when they launched 96 Rock and didn't even have a phone. No requests and no computer meant it was actually a half-decent station. That lasted a week. Shitshow ever since. Still, it was a locally-operated shitshow for years, and you have to give them credit for that.Radio as a commercial format with any sort of integrity is dead. Unless it's a college station (KNC, XDU, XYC) or public service station (SHA, UNC), it's worthless.
11/22/2011 3:48:29 AM
I'm streaming 98.7 down in Wilmington right now. I'm hearing all this rock I had no idea existed. Apparently I've missed a lot of new music in the last 6 years
11/22/2011 10:36:34 AM
11/22/2011 10:39:02 AM
Yeah they've started playing some older stuff in the last 20 minutes. Had never heard of Foster the People, Paramore, Screaming Trees before though.and wtf 311 is still making music? [Edited on November 22, 2011 at 10:43 AM. Reason : l]
11/22/2011 10:41:32 AM
dudeeven G105 plays Paramore and Foster the People
11/22/2011 10:46:02 AM
and have a surprisingly rabid followingan acquaintance of mine goes to 311 day every year, and schedules vacations around it
11/22/2011 10:46:22 AM
^^ lol I don't think I've listened to G105 in 10 years ^ Do they give themselves some stupid name like the Juggalos?
11/22/2011 10:48:48 AM
far as i can tell just smoke a lot of pot and listen to that horrible reggae infused rock music like rebelution
11/22/2011 10:50:09 AM
What kind of music do they listen to in Japan

What kind of rock music fan has never heard Screaming Trees?

11/22/2011 12:21:32 PM
11/22/2011 12:25:46 PM
I'll admit I am a passive music fan. Rarely do I bother learning the name of whoever is singing what I'm listening to on the radio.
11/22/2011 1:09:54 PM
lol hipsters are so detached. ask 10 people on the street about the screaming trees and they'll be like who?but really, they had a few good songs 20-ish years ago, why are they so memorable? Not like they're a defining band of the era or something.
11/22/2011 1:30:58 PM
11/22/2011 1:35:08 PM
I was skeptical, but I put on 96.1 today for a while and liked 95% of what I heard. Hate the "radio 96.1", hate the "more music, less blah blah blah", but the music they're playing isn't bad.
11/22/2011 2:34:00 PM
11/22/2011 6:30:12 PM
I'm still liking the new format better. They play more songs. I remember when 96.1 played their entire music library over about 3 days. They played a ton of songs that I never heard them play before that, or after that. I don't get why radio stations think they have to play the same songs over and over from 20+ years ago.[Edited on November 24, 2011 at 1:42 AM. Reason : .]
11/24/2011 1:41:57 AM
It's quite simple - kids these days don't listen to FM radio much anymore with ipods and satellite radio and CDs. Adults are the target audience.
11/24/2011 10:08:01 AM
So After reading this I decided to post my displeasure (nothing crude) on some facebook pages. Alli decided to counter me complaining its turkey day and she deserves a holiday. Ok. Dont be checking your work stuff while its your day off. Thats your own dumb fault. That or get a spokesperson to check it for you. You self label yourself as a celeb, then act like it. And deal with it. So someone said Foster is still there. What happened to him being station manager? And whos this Mike Hartel dude?
11/24/2011 2:03:05 PM
^ lol yeah seriously wtf. Don't be checking your work-related Facebook page on Thanksgiving if you don't want to do work stuff on Thanksgiving
11/24/2011 2:06:10 PM
Im tempted to post again. She has on her info section she still works for 96 rock. Oops.
11/24/2011 2:16:58 PM
I don't know how anyone can stand Bob the Blade's lame sense of humor and voice. I would cringe visibly at the dead air when even he could tell his shit fell flat.[Edited on December 1, 2011 at 9:53 AM. Reason : RADIO]

12/1/2011 10:04:22 AM
Unsurprisingly, a lot of people have horrible taste. That's why you've been rewarded with Radio 96.1.
12/2/2011 8:49:14 AM
My FM transmitter is broken so I'm stuck with the radio until I get a new one. 96.1 is pretty much the only option when 88.1 is playing awful indie/indie-folk/"Christ what the fuck am I listening to right now" bullshit. Did they just fire all the DJs or what?
1/27/2012 2:32:52 PM
